The story of Melinda May’s transformation into “The Cavalry” is revealed as she finds herself at a crossroads in the war between Coulson and Gonzales. As Skye learns more about her true heritage from Lincoln, the truth about the Inhumans will send her in a new direction, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Tuesday, April 14 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Melinda in the shower. With Andrew. 7 years ago. They wanted a family. They were happy. Doorbell. It's Coulson. Andrew gives him coffee. You're early. Sorry. Keep her safe out there. She keeps me safe. Andrew tells her to be careful. She will.
They prepare for the op. Coulson has started an initiative. Avengers Initiative. She says one mission at a time. They're after Eva Belyakov. It's important we don't spook her. We believe she has super strength. Welcome to Bahrain.
Present. The ship. Fitz is being tailed. May isn't pleased. How long has Coulson been running Mike Peterson? May says Coulson doesn't bore me with every tiny detail. They ask her about the Theta Protocol. We want to open Fury's toolbox for answers. Are we right to worry about Coulson? May says he's not our enemy.
Jiaying asks Skye about SHIELD. Do you understand your gift? Skye says I make things shake? Well, no, everything already shakes. Jia says you can sense the frequency. Try to hear the stone. Skye takes it in hand and concentrates. She hears the mountain. Jia says take that frequency and amplify it. Don't be afraid. Skye tries....and....there's an avalanche on that mountain. I moved a mountain! Jia says remember that feeling. It's not something to fear.
Bahrain, 7 years ago. They meet up with Bahraini National Security. He says this is a dangerous area. SHIELD has to take her or they will. Coulson goes in and sits. Introduces himself and offers help. May says incoming. Coulson offers going somewhere more secure. Eva says no. She's looking for pain. Tosses the table. And Coulson's men are taken hostage, along with a little girl.
Skye and Jiaying. Eat and rest. This afternoon will be harder. I'm very proud of your work today. Lincoln comes over. He says it's impressive for Jiaying to take anyone under her wing. She's in charge, so she must like you. Skye asks how often does she train people. As far as he knows, never.
Bobbi with May. You didn't know about Theta Protocol. That gut punch you felt today is how we felt for months. I don't think Coulson is a bad guy, but I can't ignore a secret this big. May says the price of doing the right thing is that no one will understand.
Bahrain. May and Coulson discuss. He calls OBrian. He says Leave us alone. Strike team goes in.
Gordon with Raina. She wants to leave. He says you are not a monster. Don't get so wrapped up in your physical changes that you miss the gifts below it. Raina wants to feel fresh air. Gordon says we'll discuss it later. Lincoln says he means well. She has nightmares of being hunted. Of being tangled in thorns. Of seeing Skye happy. She got everything and I got thorns. Lincoln says don't give up on us, yet.
Bahrain. Coulson and May watch over the team. It starts going badly. All operators quiet. May says we're alone on this.
Jiaying and Skye work on water glasses. Playing notes on them. Skye vibrates them all.....until they shatter. Jiaying says look at the music you can make. What's wrong? Skye says nothing. And that's just it. Feeling like home never ends well. Mistrust of home is my other superpower. She broke a crystal decanter at a foster house once and they sent her back. I'm 25 and I've never spent more than 2 years anywhere. Got the news on my birthday once, and I don't know when I was really born. SHIELD was the closest I've come to family. Jiaying says this is a safe place. We won't turn on you. You say that, but-- July 2nd! You were born on July 2nd. It was a hot night. I decided to clean the house and.... Oh my God. Cal tried to borrow a car, but didn't speak any Chinese. You're my.... Deep down, I think you knew. Skye says she was too afraid to hope.
Are you okay? Jiaying wanted to run to her the second she saw her. But you were forced into the Mist. this had to be your choice. You deserved that. Skye says, so you were looking for me? Yes. We scoured the Earth for you. One day, I didn't recognize myself or your father. I'm sorry. I couldn't find you, but I helped others and came here. But right now, this has to be our secret. Our people have strict rules and could perceive you as a threat.
May and Simmons hug. May says I have command of the base. Were you aware you'd been working on Deathlok technology? Did he ever talk to you about Theta Protocol? We need to find out if they're telling the truth.
Bahrain. Coulson tries to get approval to send May in. The Bahraini want to bomb the building and call it a night. They hear sirens approach. Coulson tells her to go. He tells the army they're about to enter a quarantine site. Bio weapons.
May calls Andrew. She says we have a hostage situation. They have a little girl. He says okay, you've done this before, you'll come home. Do good, Melinda, but come home! I love you. I love you, too. She hangs up, then goes in. Kills one guard. And can't reach Coulson. Another guard down. She finds Agent Hart. He pulls a gun on her. He just keeps saying I need your pain. They all say it!!
May tries to get through to them. Then has to escape. She locks them in a room.
Simmons and May. Coulson's burning through money, took meetings, built things. He always met with Andrew. They've been consulting a while. Mack says we think Coulson is building a base for people with powers. If you're training superpowered people, you need bunks and money and a psychologist. May tells Simmons to open the toolbox.
Raina asks Gordon if she can leave. No. He says he'll take her places at night, but it's too dangerous to go into public. He says gifts are deeply layered. At first, I was just blind. I will be your guide. People like us have to live different, but it's still an amazing world. She says as long as I have you to show it to me.
Jiaying and Skye. They meet Ethan, who hasn't been through the Mist. Jiaying says my rules must be enforced. Favoritism isn't allowed. People have died when protocols are ignored. It's happened before. There was a woman once. She stole Terrigen crystals and fled. Got caught up with criminals in Bahrain. Her name was Eva. Russian and strongwilled.
Eva tosses May. The cavalry... Skye says I know this story. The agent killed her? Jiaying says it wasn't that simple.
Eva attacks May again.
May's pretty battered but she keeps fighting. Eva wants more pain. May gets shot. She finally has to stab Eva. But there are more men. The little girl says I like the pain. Eva stole the crystals for Katia. Jiaying didn't think Katia was worthy. There was darkness in the girl. Katia went insane. Leeched emotions like a parasite. May pleads with her to let the others go. Katia says take my hand, give me your pain. May tells her to stop. Put your hand down and stop.
Coulson hears a shot. They enter the building. Find May with the dead girl. May died inside that day.
Skye understands now. No one will ever know.
Gordon and Jiaying observed in Bahrain.
Coulson with May. May's very upset that she couldn't save the girl. He tells her to let the girl go. You did good. She weeps.
May in the shower at home. And in the kitchen. Andrew says we'll get through this. She pulls away. She asked for a transfer to a desk. Where Coulson found her.
Jiaying and Skye. Cal lost himself to a promise he made me. He never gave up on you. He deserves something for that. One dinner, then you never have to see him again. She promises. Skye agrees. Cal has flowers. Daisies for Daisy. He thanks them for giving him another shot. Skye says my mother taught me things. I've never had that before and that was possible because of you. That's all he really wanted. Jiaying says Skye doesn't know about her birthday. He does! July 2nd, 1988. He tells the story with excitement. Skye says, I'm 26? They toast to 26. Lincoln arrives, and remembers what Raina said. Skye at the happy dinner. It's not a dream.
Restaurant. Men waiting for someone in the restroom. It's Fitz. He opens the toolbox. Looks for a file. He connects to Hunter and Coulson. Can we meet up? Fitz says I'm being followed. Can you show me how to shake a tail? Hunter instructs him.
