Episode 8:
NYC, 1946. Jarvis on the phone with Peggy. Ana comes home. He meets her in the kitchen. Who was that on the telephone? That was Mr. Stark's associate. Woman, actually. Ms. Peggy Carter. I think he respects her. She says you're trying to distract me. From worry. Jarvis promises this won't get in the way of their lives. She says don't make promises you can't keep.
Hospital. Jarvis isn't doing well. Ana is asleep in the bed. Peggy says she has color in her cheekc. Ana needs you to be beside her. Listening to your voice, no one else's. I'm going to bring you one of Howard's radios, and a change of clothes, toothbrush, razor, so when she wakes up you look like you. Alright? Good.
Jason awake. Whitney asks what happens when you vanish? She wants to compare notes, physicist to physicist. Jason asks for paper and pen. She says he's stalling. He's hoping he disappears and doesn't come back. She doesn't believe that. She wants to work together. Asks him if he hears the voice? Or am I going crazy? He nods. She says 10 seconds. She promises this won't hurt.
Daniel is there when Peggy comes home. She updates him. He says Manfreddi and Whitney were an item back in the day. Peggy changes clothes.
They go to an Italian restaurant. Manfreddi cooking in the kitchen. Peggy and Daniel take out the guards. Heh.
London, England. Jack and a man leaving a bar really drunk. They are old college buds. Jack asks if MI found that thing. A fully redacted file. I know why you're really here. Brit goes in another pub. Jack goes around the corner to look at the file.
Daniel served pasta. But not Peggy. LOL. Manfreddi says he used to be with Whitney, but not anymore. Daniel threatens him. Nona grabs a knife. Manfreddi tells her to give them a moment. He'll give a message to Whitney.
Whitney asks Jason what he thinks of her research. That you're a mass murderer of rats. She says this is a gift. If you accept it, then you control it. You hear that, don't you. It's there, right now. It will guide you. Knock. Manfreddi. She tells Jason close your eyes. Embrace what you hear. She asks Manfreddi what is it? He says Peggy visited. She'll give you the uranium rods in exchange for him unharmed. She says tell Ms. Carter she has a deal.
Jarvis at Ana's bedside. He's making promises. I promise I will protect you to my dying day if you're please, please wake up. She says don't make promises you can't keep. She woke up at the Bernese Mountain Dog, but I wanted to see what else I can get. Jarvis kisses her. Then goes for the doctor.
Then the telephone. Peggy. Ms. Carter, thank you. Doctor comes out. When do you think we might go home? Doc says the surgery was difficult. But there were complications, damage we couldn't repair. Ana doesn't know, yet. Jarvis will tell her. He goes back in the room. She asks what did he say? Jarvis says we'll need shopping bags for the prescriptions he gave you. Anything else? He says no. No, you're perfect.
Scientist made fake rods for them. Peggy tells him to dismantle Jason's cage and put it in the truck. Jarvis shows up. Wants to go with them. Peggy says you belong at the hospital. Stark's machine sends a message. Design specs for a machine. Gamma radiation canon. Could eliminate Zero Matter. Daniel asks can you build it? Yeah, but it's complicated. Jarvis will drive.
Jack is in the living room. Peggy says she has neither the time or the patience. He gives her the file. I won't say a word as long as you come with me and play by the rules. This covers your war crimes. She says Vernon asks you to discredit me and you find the ideal report. This is a forgery. You don't need to cut corners to get ahead. You're better than that. Heh.
Whitney dressed to leave. Manfreddi calls her Gorgeous. She says don't call me that. Joe says he's not lying. That mark on your face is nothing to be ashamed of. It's power, and that's what makes you beautiful. You should never have to hide it from the rest of the world. Truck arrives. Jason is brought out. Peggy and Daniel in the back. Peggy asks Jason how he's solid. Whitney wants to see the goods. Peggy hands over the case. Whitney says such a pity two accomplished women are standing on the opposite side. Rods pass. Jason over to Peggy. Case opens. They're fake. Stop them! Truck takes off. They're shot at.
Jarvis says they're following us. Jason in the cage. Jason says she'll never stop. Peggy says Howard sent specs for a gamma ray machine. Jason grabs the shotgun. Where are the rods? Tell me where-- She won't. You'll have to kill me. Jason says tell me, or you'll never see her breathe again. Daniel says they're in the SSR lab. Daniel says he's sorry. Truck stops. Jason gets in Whitney's car. They drive away.
Vernon is happy with Jack. Jack questions the validity of the file. Too good to be true. Vernon says what's happened and what's true are too different things. This is an official document, which makes it true. Call into the office. Vernon asks Jack to leave and close the door.
Jack picks up a phone to listen. Whitney on the line.
Vernon goes to the lab safe. Jack confronts him. Vernon says now's not a good time. Jack won't let him do this. Vernon says I underestimated you. Jack says stop, right there. Vernon is sorry to hear that.
Daniel and Peggy find Jack in the lab. He doesn't know....I was in the bullpen and now.... The amnesia device. Uranium is gone. Jack remembers he was on the phone. I was listening to Vernon and a woman. Peggy finds a note. Coordinates to Whitney Frost.
They tell Jack to stay out. Jack says you don't trust me? I'm hurt. Daniel tells Peggy that Wilkes is a hostile. He's desperate. We need to be dispassionate about this. I know you and Wilkes are close. We might have to make hard choice, okay? Peggy calls him on being a hypocrite. So you would've let him shoot me? Jack says if it makes a difference, I would've let him shoot both of you. LOL.
Rose and the scientist. Jarvis asks for a word with Rose. He asks if she'll look after Ana while he's gone. He brought favorite things. And this, if necessary. Rose hugs him. I promise. I will keep her safe. Peggy says let's move.
Jack estimates they have a 90 minute lead on us. In the desert.
Whitney asks if they're ready. Ready. Manfreddi has always loved fireworks. Fire, really. Jason is worried this won't work. Whitney says it will. You know it will because the whisper in your head says it will. She orders the test.
We're too late.
Whitney and Jason stop the car. Portal is open. He hears a voice. She doesn't. Jason flies up to the portal. Whitney yells Take me! It's supposed to be me! What about me! Take me!
They ready the gamma canon. Scientist doesn't know what will happen. Jarvis asks about Whitney. Scientist says there's only one shot. Could only charge the battery for one pulse. Peggy takes after Jarvis. Scientist asks what do we do, Chief? They say Do what Peggy says!!
Aiming the canon. Put on glasses. Charged up. Fires.
Whitney shields her eyes. It's gone! Jason in a hole. Dr. Wilkes, can you hear me? Jason?
Ana wakes. Rose says hi. Apple torte? I hear it's your favorite. Mr. Jarvis will be back shortly and I should keep you company until he gets back. They play Hangman.
Jarvis stops the car. Shoots Whitney twice. Peggy says Jason is breathing. Jarvis says so is she. Peggy says run now. Whitney tells Manfreddi to wait. He has what I want, and the key to controlling him is to control what he loves. Keep them alive.
Ep 9:
Peggy in black and white. Hello? Daniel? Rose? Anyone? Michael her brother in the office. What are you doing here? He says you've gotten yourself in a mess this time. She says you got me into this in the first place. She misses him. He'd be alongside her if he could.
L&L Automat. Peggy enters. Angie behind the counter. Shouldn't you be working, English? Want dessert? Peggy doesn't know what she wants. Jason says how about me? You're angry. I held a gun to your head. She says it wasn't your fault. Daniel shows up. Doing his best Gene Kelly. Sings to Peggy. Pulls her into dancing. Almost kiss. Angie pulls her on stage. Whatcha gonna go? Dottie there, too. Peggy sings! About laws of attraction. They're both a nice distraction. Now I clearly see it's up to me. DWTS dancers. Angie tells Peggy to make her mind up. Whatcha gonna do? Jarvis interrupts. With Ana, Dottie, and Whitney in dancing girl costumes. Rose punches Peggy!
Peggy wakes in a truck. Jarvis still unconscious.
Jack looking through binoculars. Daniel says it's been over an hour. Scientist wants water. Car coming. SSR car. Vernon's guys. Jack says you trust me? not at all. Good enough. Heh.
Peggy unties Jarvis. He knows she disapproves. She says get yourself loose while I figure out a way out of this mess which is entirely of your making!
Jack's under arrest. The men tell Daniel to drop the gun, Chief. And the scientist, too. Jack says good work, boys. Let's get these men back to SSR. Vernon will want to hear what they have to say. Jack tells Vega to get them in that car. Men put their guns away. Jack hits Daniel in the gut.
Peggy and Jarvis trying to get out of the truck. Peggy has a hot wire to cut the lock. She tosses Jarvis out the back. Quiet! Stay down. Get to the side of the road. He asks what do we do now? She says we walk. He rants at her. She keeps walking. Right, then.
Jason in the backseat. He comes to. How do you feel? He says something's wrong. I'm not well. Manfreddi says if you're gonna puke, do it outside. She asks what he saw? He didn't. Blackness. She asks why you? He doesn't know. His eyes are normal now, but he's not good. He says I'm not safe around people. Let me out! Whitney says let's all get out for a moment. They discover the truck is empty. Manfreddi kills the driver. Tells Jason to get back in the car and shut your mouth. Go!
Peggy and Jarvis walking. He wants to rest. She says keep moving. A car will come. Your opinion is neither wanted nor required. He won't apologize for doing the right thing? She says he was only seeking revenge. And unlike you, I'm not a murderer, Mr. Jarvis. He says and yet everyone around you dies! He apologizes. She says I'm glad you did. These are just adventures to you. There is a horrid, ugly, consequence. You blame me for the choices you've made. There is a cost, one I've made 100 times over. Your wife will survive. Lucky you. I would move instead of sulking, Mr. Jarvis. He says she can't have children. Ana. There were complications. Peggy apologizes. He says how could you know? Nobody knows. Even Ana doesn't know, because she's married to a coward who can't bring himself to tell her. What I did is inexcusable, but I'm truly sorry. Truck coming. Out of time.
Truck stops. Peggy's playing fainted. Jarvis says the sun has done her in. One takes Jarvis to the trunk. Peggy knows out the other. They leave the men with a little water.
Daniel and the scientist in a cell. Vernon asks why they are not dead? Vega says we were asking under Chief Thompson's orders. Jack says that device is called a gamma canon. These men can fix it. Vernon says Whitney can do that. Jack says but then you can't use it on her. Jack wants to fire it at her and bring back some order. Vernon asks what about Daniel? Daniel will stay quiet if Whitney is taken down. Scientist says you can count on me 100%. Jack says we can deal with Frost, or say the word and I take care of these guys myself. Vernon says we'll do it your way. It's the smart plan. Vernon tells them to get to work. He leaves. Jack says that went as well as could be expected.
Waste management facility. Whitney tells Joe it's perfect. Thank you. His boys brought in the equipment from Isodyne. Jason tied to a table. He pleads to be taken anywhere isolated. I'm not safe! I can't fight it much longer! She says you don't have to fight it. You sound ungrateful. She's going to try taking the zero matter from him. I apologize for the pain, but we both know pain is part of progress. Let's begin.
SSR. Peggy returns. Walks into Vernon's office. She decks him. And hits him again and again. Daniel grabs her. Jack says we can't kill Vernon. Peggy says this is ludicrous. Let's say this works and Vernon stops Whitney Frost with it. Then what? Vernon says I don't have to kill you. This is a stalemate. Daniel is in this to get at Whitney. Samberley needs another hour. Vernon says it's too long. Jack volunteers to tell her.
Joe says we should give Jason a rest. Whitney relents. You can give it to me if you choose. Jason says it will kill you.
Whitney meets with Jack. Vernon sent you to deliver the weapon? Not exactly. So he sent you with bad news. Jack makes Whitney laugh. Joe gets hot. Whitney calls him off. Joe leaves to get some supper. He means well. Of course he does. Where's my canon, Chief Thompson? Jack says at the SSR to get repaired. Jack says Vernon plans to use the canon on you. I propose I deliver the canon to you and give you Vernon. I want a seat on the Council.
**He's playing, right? Right?
Peggy asks Jack, she bought it? He says yes. She thinks he's up to something. Vernon didn't think he'd get back alive. Daniel says it's loaded. Scientist says handle the gamma core with extreme caution. Peggy says be careful. Vernon's ready to leave.
Peggy doesn't like this. Daniel says Vernon will do what's best for Vernon. Their car won't start. And the radio doesn't work. Daniel says the fuel line's cut. Samberley, we need your car now. He turned the gamma canon into a bomb. Jack's plan. It's on a remote trigger. Peggy says you can block it. Samberly can build it in 2 minutes.
Jarvis fussing over Ana. Ana asks about Peggy. Asks about Dr. Wilkes. Jarvis wants to go on holiday. She says you detest going on holiday. He offers tea. He tells her about Dr. Wilkes. Ms. Carter tried to get him back. Ana says you should be helping. He says I'm here because you need me. She says that's lovely. But who does Peggy have? Only you. You must try to render any assistance you can. Now what else are you not telling me? You're a terrible liar. He says you know me too well, darling.
Peggy wants to go in to get Jason. Samberley says the device isn't working. I only had 2 minutes to build it. LOL. Where did Agent Carter go? LOL.
Peggy knocks out a guard.
Whitney asking about the gamma gun. She plans to take her zero matter back. Vernon offers to show how it works.
Peggy sneaks in. Knocks out another guard. Gets to Jason. Jason says you need to leave. She says there's a bomb set to go off. Jason says save yourself, Peggy! She says you're a good man, remember that. He says it wasn't zero matter. It was me.
Whitney turns it off. I almost didn't believe Chief Thompson. I thought you were smarter than this. Jack says sorry, Vernon, change of plans.
Jason says you have to go. She's not leaving without him. He locks her out of the building. I'm ready for this to be over. Go!
Jason's cracking.
Samberley blocks the detonator finally. Daniel's worried about Peggy.
Vernon tries to appeal to Jack. Jack says I owe you a lot. I appreciate everything you've done for me. Sorry it has to end like this. Jack leaves Vernon with Whitney.
Jack leaves the building. Jogs away. His button doesn't work. Carter! He gets to Daniel. Turn it on now! Peggy says Jason Wilkes is innocent! And Vernon Masters should be brought to justice. Jack says Whitney is killing Vernon as we speak. And Jason is a danger to all. He orders Samberley to fix it. Peggy pulls a gun on Jack. Put that down.
Blinking lights on the gamma gun. Jason gets to Whitney and explodes.
