“Irreconcilable Differences”
BLACK SIREN KIDNAPS LANCE— Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) is kidnapped by Black Siren (Katie Cassidy) and Cayden James (guest star Michael Emerson), who are looking to trade Lance’s life for a weapon of mass destruction. Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Team Green Arrow must figure out a way to save Lance while still keeping the city safe. Laura Belsey directed the episode written by Beth Schwartz & Sarah Tarkoff (#609). Mid-season finale.
Episode 9:
Wedding reception. William with Thea. A sip of champagne during the toast. Oliver says Felicity was supposed to be here by now. John apologizes for Lyla not being here. Where is the bride? Oliver turns. Felicity walking in with her parents. The music? Really? Teen romcom style. Felicity carrying a bouquet. Donna hugs Oliver. Forgiven them for eloping. But she's still a little miffed about not being at the wedding. Would it have killed you to get a rabbi? Oliver pulls Felicity aside. They kiss. John starts a clap.
Dancing. Quentin and Dinah. Thea with William.
Oliver and Felicity shmoozing. A woman is a fan. Friends from Ivy Town.
Team Arrow doing shots. Curtis says Paul and I had specialty cocktails at our wedding. And wore matching tuxes. Asks for champagne. Dinah's not into matrimony. She's had a lot of busted engagements. Rene thinks she's weird lately. Curtis says she's been texting someone for weeks now. Rene says you should get back to dating. Curtis rambles.
Quentin congratulated Oliver. Gift. A watch. My dad gave that to me on my wedding day. It's not right you don't have a parent here tonight. Oliver thanks him. They hug. AWWW.
Curtis drinking.
Cake cutting. Feeding. Bouquet toss.
Curtis trying to give a toast drunk. Ranting about love. Oliver suggests Rene interrupt. Give Curtis a round of applause. True love is... so special that we all dream about it. I'm reminded about how I felt about my wife on my wedding day. We'd do anything for each other no matter what. You have your stuff but you work through it. You deserve all the happiness and I'm so glad you're my friends. To Oliver and Felicity. Now time for first dance. To "At Last". A very common first dance song.
Rene and Thea. She hoped a friend would've come. Would've been nice to see him. Rene says weddings make us nostalgic. I did see the DJ checking you out.
Donna and Noah dancing. Getting along. Quentin interrupts. Awkward.... Noah leaves for a drink. Donna says you look really good. He says sober. His phone. Oliver's lawyer. I gotta take it, I'm sorry.
Felicity and Oliver. Quentin says we got a problem. She jinxed it, heh. Lawyer says I gotta tell ya right away. Prosecution has a witness that will testify you are the Green Arrow. Someone on the team.
Arrow Cave. Oliver says I never should've trusted them. Dig arrives. What's up? Oliver tells John. Felicity running surveillance on the team. John says confront them and give them a chance to come clean. Oliver not into it. Curtis, Dinah, or Rene gave me up. Or when you put the hood back on, you could be next.
Rene gets Curtis home. Curtis falls. Rene's apartment. Curtis still dwells on being alone. Do you ever feel like life would be easier if there was never a Team Arrow? Rene says all the time. Curtis says Oliver and Felicity got their happy ending. All that matters. Rene says you'll find someone new. Until then, you have all of us. Curtis passes out.
Dinah in an alley. You have to stop contacting me. He's not here for a favor. I miss you, D. That dress.... She says don't. I don't know who you are anymore, Vince. The man I know could never kill innocents. He says they aren't innocent. What about that cop? Collateral damage. She says Oliver stopped me from becoming you. Vince says I don't lie to myself about what I'm doing. I'm not a saint, but I care about you. Always have. Always will. She says don't contact me. Leave town. If I catch you in the field again, I won't let you escape again.
Quentin escorts Thea home. Black Siren in the hall. Cayden James wants a word. She takes them both out. Puts a phone in Thea's hand. Next time, I'll put you back in a coma....Speedy. Then she drags Quentin away.
**Arrow glosses over the fast Olicity had no marriage license. That party was for show without mentioning the legality for getting married. How hard is that? Bad enough they interrupted Barry and Iris. Oliver should've had the manners to delay Felicity until AFTER Barry and Iris finished their vows. Apologize for the interruption, then get married LATER that day. Girl Code demands you never step on someone else's wedding. And they did so many of the cliche and sappy wedding things without EARNING the "awwwwws" the audience SHOULD have for that moment. Arrow, please hire a romance author to write your relationship bits, please? You suck at this stuff.
Dinah and Vince seen. Oliver wonders what else she lied about. John is the voice of reason. Dinah supported me. Oliver says we need to protect ourselves. Thea comes in. Evil Laurel took Quentin. I'm not strong enough anymore. Hands over the phone. Rings. Cayden James. Where's Lance? He won't tell. Cayden wants a part secured at ARGUS. Deliver it to me or Lance dies. Oliver isn't game. Cayden will text an address tomorrow night. Be there with the amplifier or Lance dies. Thea wonders why Cayden won't hack ARGUS? you can't unless you're on site. Oliver says bring in Curtis and Rene.
Lyla's office. John inside. to leave a present. Gets the guard to go away. John is at her laptop. Felicity finds the amplifier. Everyone in position. Curtis and Rene as janitors. Wondering why Dinah's not here. Oliver in the vents. Curtis has to take down security. Felicity was in the trash can. She gives Oliver 60 seconds.
He repels in.
Rene delays guards.
Oliver coming back up with the device.
Curtis and Felicity leave.
Arrow Cave. this will multiply the blast radius of that bomb. Rene says Lance wouldn't want us to do this. Oliver says Curtis sabotage it. Cayden James just has to believe it works. Dinah arrives. Oliver wants to speak in private. Then brings up Vince. And the testimony of someone on this team! You've given me no reason to trust you. She says you don't trust me, either, John? John says I'm sorry. She says no, I am. Sorry for having your back all those times. Curtis says can we calm down a second? Take a breath. It could be any one of us. John says everyone else checked out. All of us. Dinah says you mean the newbies. Curtis gets mad. Rene says stop. Dinah isn't the witness. It's me. I'm testifying against you.
**Rene, why not tell Oliver right when the deal was offered to you? If it's leverage against his daughter like we think it is, then talk father to father.
He says I'd never see Zoey again, and she has a solid case against you. You're going down either way. John says you should've told us. Rene says there was no other way! Oliver tells him to get out. Get. Out.
Siren wakes Lance. She's got a grudge about Lian Yu. He apologizes. Asks her if she sees her own father at all? She says no. He died when I was 13. My birthday. He left to get my cake. Then the phone rang. Drunk driver ran through a red light. Head on collision. Lance picked up Laurel's favorite cake, too. He's sorry she didn't get to know her father. Cayden comes in. If Green Arrow renegs on our deal, you kill him.
Rene stress eating. Dinah and Curtis with him. Rene says Oliver was right to kick me out. Curtis is quiet. He's processing. She says Oliver spying on us. He doesn't like the way it makes him feel. Bites the burger. Wow. Good. Real good.
Thea and Oliver. Felicity told her what happened. He's thinking about what Rene did. Putting his daughter ahead of the team. How can I feel betrayed by someone doing what I've done? She says because you've never sold someone out. You're doing the right thing looking through his perspective. Maybe you can forgive him. Rene is a very desperate guy doing a very desperate thing. I think he meant that speech last night. It was a betrayal, but you should also see a way to forgive him. Quentin needs the whole team. Oliver tells John to suit up. The whole team. Copy that.
**So. Team help for Quentin's sake? Or tell Oliver to F himself. Either way would be understandable. Oliver let his temper get the better of him again. Rene should've told the team about the deal, but his choice was very understandable under the circumstances. He doesn't have the brain to outwit Miss FBI Hardass. Doesn't have the best poker face, either. She could've easily leveraged someone else on the team, but Rene has the most to lose.
They suited up. Oliver as Green Arrow. It's a digital black hole. Curtis disabled the amplifier. Oliver says we get a chance to take Cayden James into custody, we take it. We put our issues aside tonight.
Meet with James. Where is Lance? Cayden says lay down your bow and I'll let you speak with him. I am a man of my word.
No sign of Lance or Laurel. Curtis and Rene anxious. Rene's not waiting to be back-up.
Oliver lays the bow down. Given a walkie talkie. Quentin says I'm fine. Don't compromise the city's safety for me, alright? Cayden wishes there were more dedicated civil servants like him. Cayden knows the amplifier is sabotaged. How? He orders Lance dead. Kill Green Arrow. Bow booby trapped. Overwatch tells the team to aid Green Arrow. Wild Dog and Terrific on their way.
They found Lance. Siren spots them and screams.
Oliver yells where is everybody! Cayden got away. His men are down.
Siren getting away with Quentin. She tells him to run. Cuts him loose. Oliver arrives. She screams to block him. He climbs over. She's gone. Team catches up. Everyone okay? Oliver tells Overwatch yeah. Good here.
**Oh boy, this is going to lead to a pissy conversation again. Oliver's going to yell at the boys about not staying in position.
** 5 minutes of ep left. How much of a cliffhanger will there be? Or will there be?
**Did Cayden assume they would sabotage it? Or is there a mole?
Arrow bunker. Oliver asks where they went? Looking for Lance. Rene says it was my call. Turned out to be the right one. Oliver says you got lucky. Rene says you left us blind where we couldn't help. Oliver put up with Rene's impulses. But you had a second chance and you failed it. You don't get a third. You're off the team. Like that? Like that. Dinah says Oliver is right. We need to trust each other. I don't believe in you anymore. She's out, too. Oliver does not look upset.
Vince and Dinah. He asks if she's okay? She doesn't want to talk about it. I had no one else to call. I needed someone who believed in me. A friend. Vince says I can do that.
Rene brings Zoey home. Sunflowers. Her favorite. He promises he won't let anyone split them up again.
John says nothing can be undone. Felicity and Oliver disagree. Curtis comes in. Oliver, you and Dinah were right. No trust, no team. you spied on me. Whether you couldn't trust me or not, means I can't trust you. He's still part of Helix Dynamics, but this.... I'm done. He leaves. Oliver says we need to move forward. How did Cayden James know we sabotaged the amplifier?
Siren planted a camera in the bunker 2 months ago. Anatoly comes in! And Vince! And the Dragon! Cayden says this is only the beginning.
Next ep - Maybe we even the playing field. Get a team against their team.
Curtis and Rene and Dinah want to form their own team.
