Coulson put in a room. Hale at the door. He says the blindfold was one of the nicest. She offers answers in the morning. He's figured out things for himself. Add it all up, it's not Air Force. She says it's HYDRA. He thought they stomped them out. She says yes. Yet here we are in the same room. I'd like to tell you my story. It's time for SHIELD and HYDRA to finally unite.
28 years ago. Good morning. Rise and seize the future. Teen with a chocolate lab. She dresses in a school uniform. HYDRA poster on the wall. Hale leaves her room. Other students in the hall. Cafeteria. Guest speaker today. She's sitting with Sidwell. Bell rings.
Classroom. Graduation tomorrow. Final exam tonight. Daniel Whitehall is the speaker. It's an honor to speak with you, the future of our organization. Though you may be behind the scenes, there are many ways to help HYDRA. Lights off for the projector. We're close to creating the most powerful man on Earth. Forcing human cells to take on properties of other substances. Von Strucker suggest the Tesseract. Hale says it's a waste of time. SHIELD has it. She suggests looking where the Tesseract came from for new materials - outer space. Whitehall is pleased.
The gym. Hale bench pressing. Boys surprise her with extra weight. She attacks one, punching him.
Dressing in her uniform. A bruise on her cheek. No dog. She enters the cafeteria. Sits with Sidwell. He's heading to SHIELD. She asks if he's okay. The test was tough for everyone. He says she screwed her chances of a good placement by punching Strucker. Whitehall wants a word with her. One of the few females at commencement. Completed your final test? She hands over the dog collar. Well done. You must eliminate every attachment. He says we're confident we see the future of HYDRA in you. He's selected her for his program. Von Strucker will be working on the chamber. They're impressed with her. You'll be essential for engineering the perfect specimen for the chamber. She'll be artificially inseminated. You will give birth to our new leader. We see the future of HYDRA in you. She'll be placed in a deep cover. But she'll serve the cause. She says she's flattered, but asks if there's an option to use her talents elsewhere. He says there's always a choice to comply. She says Hail HYDRA. He says that's what I thought.
2 years ago. Rise and seize the future. Ruby's room. She dresses in her uniform. Pets the dog. In class with a few boys. Poor boys can never keep up. Hale is told Ruby has weaknesses. Leadership hasn't decided Ruby's fate, yet. Hale says Whitehall designed her to lead. Man says Whitehall is dead.
Ruby asks about her assignment. thinks Air Force is boring. Hale says it's very good placement. you can even get to be an astronaut. Ruby says you would've been 10 times cooler. Hale says but I wouldn't have you. Text on the phone. She leaves.
Into the office. SHIELD captured Gideon Malick. Locate the device hidden in my vault. You're now overseeing communications. They made contact with aliens. The Confederacy. Talbot arrives to arrest the General. Hale, step away for your own safety. General says Hail Hydra. Hale plays like she's shocked. Talbot says after today, you'll never see one of those squints again.
Ruby arguing with the man about her dog. She's the only student left. HYDRA is dying. He argues about the way they've always done things. She says this tradition is weakness! He says it's a rite of passage! that's why when you cut off the head, 2 more spring up! Hale shoots him dead. Now we're the last two.
6 months ago. Doctor wakes Talbot. Your family's here to see you. He's doing memory exercises. Hale wants to transfer Talbot to another location. Doctor and Hale are trying to convince the wife. Talbot loses his temper. Yells at his kid. Doctor sedates him. Hale promises to take good care of him.
Talbot wakes in one of those rooms. Door open. Clothes. He's looking around. Finds the empty cafeteria. Hello? There's food laid out. He's hungry. Cereal and pastries and fruit. He chooses the Cap'n Crunch. Digs into the box. Ruby walks in with her earbuds in. He tries to talk to her. What are we doing in this godforsaken place? She walks out. He says don't you walk away from me, young lady. I don't appreciate being ignored. Answer me or I'll rip those headphones from your.... She wrist bars him. Hale says I see you met my daughter. He's getting mad. Orders her to tell him exactly what's going on. Ruby holds the blade to his throat. Hale says your career is over, your family is afraid of you, and your impulse control is a threat to others. She wants to help him, give him purpose. Let me show you what I'm working on.
A device to move ships through galaxies. After New York, my predecessors made contact with life in another solar system. They gave us this to meet with them face to face. We are humans fighting for survival. He calls her a filthy calamari Matahari. She wants a weapon, an old HYDRA device. He hid the contraband and he's not talking. She says let go of the old Talbot. Help me save humanity. He'd rather die on two legs than slither on 8 with her. He's grabbed and chained to a wheelchair. Ruby says squid have tentacles, not legs. They're cephalopods. Ruby takes him out of the room while he's ranting. You'll never break me! SHIELD will break that door any day now! You wait and see! Phil Coulson is coming for me!
24 hours ago. Phil wakes. Door left open. He finds the cafeteria. Ruby enters again like we've seen before. He tries talking to her. Is this supposed to keep me off balance? I give this ply a C-. Wait, Oops All Berries. C+. By the way, when Hale's done playing games, I'll be in my room. She enters the room. He asks if that girl cut my agent's arms off. Hale says that's my daughter Ruby. He says she's not helping the sales pitch of teaming up with HYDRA. She wants to show what she's working on.
He says bad idea. It has that weird alien writing on the side. Longitude. Latitude. Altitude. Will you grab that handle, please? He's been to space already. Recently. She says you need to meet him for yourself. They're teleported away.
The dark room. Why have you brought this human uninvited? She introduces Coulson. One of Earth's mightiest heroes. He's the ally we need. Show him the wisdom of helping the Confederacy. He says we'll ensure humanity's survival. Gives Coulson a vision of the warships.
Provided we meet certain terms. They want gravitonium and Inhumans. Coulson says ever consider the Confederacy will enslave us all? She says altering the deal has always been my goal. She wants to prove we're not easily toyed with or coerced. They've been searching the particle infusion container. Ruby in the chamber. He says Cap was selected for his heart, not cutting off hands. Hale says Ruby's not ready. I'm not sure if she has the temperament. She wonders if Daisy is the better fit. Fuse her with gravitonium. Whitehall's code name was The Destroyer of Worlds. Coulson tells her this is a mistake! We traveled to the future and saw the Earth cracked apart. Do not let anyone enter that chamber! She doesn't know if he's delusional or playing games with her? Clearly you're like the rest of them. He's dragged off, ranting.

**Geeze, poor Talbot. You know, I think he'd be fine after 6 months if it wasn't for the brain injury. His poor wife must be worried sick, not seeing him all this time. She must've assumed in the hospital she'd still get to visit him elsewhere. I hope they haven't done the stereotype of a spouse moving on because things got rough and taking the easy route. Plenty - most - never abandon family.
Now
Daisy, did you hear me? Yeah, I'm thinking it through. Hale is HYDRA. How are we still fighting Nazis? May wonders why she needs Coulson? Daisy says we can't question HYDRA because they're all locked up and I can't get access. May says take what you have and use it to your advantage. Daisy says we have nothing. May says we have a supervillain.
She visits Fitz. She was HYDRA there, too. She has regrets. He doesn't regret what had to be done. She is asking him to embrace it.
Simmons doing surgery on YoYo. Mack says the Framework is hard to explain. It's you but not you. It's not that Fitz is a bad guy in there. He was still a good guy in there. Somehow. She understands. Thanks him. Activates the arm. Fingers move. So when YoYo wakes up, she'll be stronger than before? Theoretically. He says lately she acts like she's bulletproof. She saw herself in the Lighthouse and knows for a fact she lives far into the future. She thinks she can't be killed. Simmons thinks it's interesting.
May asks Fitz for a theory. He doesn't know. Get Hale's target and we know the rest. Give me access to the labs. I can't help locked up in this cell. Daisy says not a chance. May says he's still on our side. Daisy says don't defend him to me. Fitz says he didn't have a choice. She slams him into a wall. He doesn't need forgiveness. Just trust me. She won't let him leave the room as HYDRA. He reminds her how many times she turned her back on the team. He's on the side of the mission that matters. Try visiting a fortune teller. She and May leave the cell.
Daisy says he's right. May says you'd risk bringing Robin into the open? Daisy says We need every weapon we can get in this fight.
visiting Fitz. He says I can't do anything locked in a dungeon like a hideous freckled stepchild. Simmons pours him tea. I've been thinking about us. Relax. I know we get through this. Do you recognize this? Yeah, it's mine. She says this one's yours. The other tool belongs to Deke. Who got it from his grandfather. He's our.....grandson. Yeah. But....he's the worst. She thinks he's perfect. Plus his existence proves we make it to the Lighthouse and raise a daughter. See what this means? He says our daughter marries some space goon to produce a child like Deke. She says no, Fitz. You and I are invincible.
Next ep - Creel vs Coulson. Daisy leading the team. Ruby calls herself the Destroyer of Worlds.
