“Unfinished Business”
DIRECTED BY AND GUEST STARRING RICHARD SPEIGHT, JR – Gabriel (guest star Richard Speight, Jr.) is back and drags Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) into his plot for revenge on the demigods who sold him to Asmodeus. Meanwhile, Jack’s (Alexander Calvert) inflating confidence leads to reckless decisions that could put others in harm’s way. Episode 20:
liquor store. Central City, Colorado. Music starts playing over a man. Fenrir Odensbane! Gabriel was playing a kazoo. Fenrir says I assume you're not here to apologize. Gabriel brought a sword. I vow to do this honorably. No gimics, no tricks. Just mano a mano. Fenrir produces claws and teeth and attacks. 70s music track over the fight. Gabriel taunts him. Fenrir scratches him. Then Gabriel gets to stabbing him through himself. Crosses out the first name on his list and walks away.
Sam unpacking. Dean on the phone. Don't unpack. Sam says we could be here for days. Dean says call when you get to Amarillo and hang up. Cas is checking Texas. They've been following leads for 2 weeks with nothing to show for it. Dean kicks a bed and it vibrates. Bonus. Knock on the door. They pull guns. It's Gabriel, bleeding. Hey, fellas, looking for me?
Jack and Mary. They've won a 3rd battle. But they're running out of space and supplies. Jacob says the angels are leaving Michael's fortress. Jack asks why would they leave?
Sam tending to Gabriel. Gabriel says the tracking spell tasted like haggis. Says he came here for R and R. Asks if they have more grace. The tank's a bit low. It'll recharge eventually. But until then.... Dean says they don't have more. Gabriel wants to leave and he's in too much pain. Lays on the sofa. Oh crap. Heh.
2 men find Fenrir's body. Spot the blood. Tastes it. Archangel blood. Better call Father.
Michael's fortress. Jack says it's all empty. Angels guarding the perimeter but inside they're gone. Mary wonders what's going on? Jack says he's scared of me. We're winning. I think we should see if Michael left something behind. Mary says it could be a trap. Jack says I'll keep you safe.
Sam doesn't get it. Dean says we'll keep him here. Gabriel awakes. Sam starts talking and Dean says again we need your help. Gabriel isn't a big joiner. He's about the leave. Then the two break the door in. Raspberries. LOL.
We're here for the angel. Dean asks what the hell are you guys? A couple of Norse demi-gods. Demi gods! They attacks Sam and Dean. Dean calls for Gabriel's help, but he's hiding. Until he stabs one god. Then threatens the younger one. He flees. Dean asks Gabriel if he's okay. Then holds up cuffs. You're not going anywhere.
Raiding Michael's. Mary says check the warding. She hates this place. Jack points to something. Figures on a map. Why are they all in the South US? They found Kevin Tran in the dungeon. Prophet turned his back on his own kind! Kevin says you don't understand! The end of the world happened and my friends and Mom died. Then God chooses me? What does that mean? Michael told me things. Then when I couldn't fix the spell, Michael tossed me in the dungeon. Mary asks what they're planning. Michael found a thin spot in the barrier between worlds. He's going to use the spell from the tablet and invade.
Dean and Sam want answers. Gabe says they're not really demi-gods. God begotten monsters. I killed their brother. Remember what I told you after I faked my death? I needed to lay low. Found me a top shelf hideaway. With the Norse. Gambling, drinks. Porn stars. I had it made. All the booze I could drink, all the entertainment I could handle.... Sam asks him to skip to the end. Gabriel asleep with 3 women. They sold him to Asmodeus. Lucifer. Apocalypse at the time. Odds had Lucifer pulling off a big win. So they sold me before he'd find me there. So now he's getting revenge. Sam asks why there are 4 swords? Gabe says that's for the architect of my torture. Their papa, Loki.
Jack and the others argue over what to do. Mary wants to wait for Bobby to get there. Kevin says Michael never does something without a reason. Mary says Jack, we have to think this through. I'm asking for a day. Please.
Dean says I thought Loki was you. Gabe went into Witness Protection. Loki put him there. They were friends a few thousand epochs ago. He found Loki being tortured and freed him. He owed me one and helped me ditch Gabriel and become him. He had family drama and it was best to lay low. Dean says none of this would've happened if you hadn't ditched us. Gabriel makes his excuses. I left you Casa Erotica. You wouldn't have known how to put Lucifer in the Cage without me. Dean insists he could've stayed to help face Lucifer. Gabriel Then rants about Asmodeus. He fed off my grace every day. Every day! For years! Used and debased me! What I went through, you don't forgive. Dean says you went through it, but killing Loki won't change that. Probably won't make you feel better. Gabriel is insistent. Sam starts to offer help and Dean pulls him aside.
Argues with Sam about taking out gods. Sam says this is about Gabriel. He needs our help. Tells Gabriel you agree to help us, we'll agree to help you. Gabriel smirks.
Jack stares at the map.
Gabriel changed clothes. Dean asks for the plan. Gabriel says the kid will be with his father. They're about 5 minutes from here. I've been tacking him since Amarillo. Dean asks why you didn't go straighter after him. Gabriel says you work up to the big bad. Shows his kill list. The sons in order, then I take Loki out. Dean says it's so stupid. Gabriel says he's been planning this for 7 years. Sam says we're on board. Dean grunts. Gabriel says what was that? Sure. Gabriel says we'll get this done easy-peasy.
Mary and Jack argue again. She says thinking you can win all the time, running in blind to every fight, that's how you make mistakes. The people here.... You can't help them if you're dead and I can't lose another boy. He says you won't. I'll come back for all of you. I promise. Kevin says no. You can't go. He has a sigil carved in his chest. Michael told me to wait for Bobby, for all of you to be together, but I can't. He wanted you to see. Michael says when I get to Heaven, I'll get to see my mom again. Mary says Heaven is just memories, nothing's real. Kevin doesn't care! You don't know the things I've done. I just want this to be over. Jack says your spell won't kill me. Michael doesn't want to kill Jack. He wants to break him. Even if you win, you still lose. Kevin activates it. Mary yells. Kevin says I'm sorry. Jack shields her. The other humans are in the light.
The Norse. Kid gets in an elevator with 2 goons. Gabriel and the boys arrive. Get in the elevator. Gabriel says just so we're clear, take out the bodyguards, but when it comes to the Norse, that's me. I want my face to be the last thing they see. Door opens. Guns firing in the dark. Gabriel has the kid on the ground with a sword to his chest. Impales him. Dean is gone. Sam thinks Dean went to the penthouse after Loki.
Dean approaches a door. Nudges it open. Loki? So you are Dean Winchester. And you're the annoying guy we're wasting time trying to kill. Loki asks if you know why? Dean doesn't care. Loki brings up Odin. Dean says that was Lucifer. loki says Odin was there to parlay. Gabriel made an agreement to me to abandon his angel ways forever. He cost my father his life. That had to be punished. Odin despised me, but he was my father. I'm sure you understand. What would you do for your father? Dean stabs him with the sword and Loki is just an illusion. He can hit Dean, but Dean can't hit him. Sam arrives and shoots. Dean says it's not real, it's Loki magic. They hurry out.
Because Loki appeared to Gabriel. Loki attacks him. Gabriel, with his deadbeat daddy and his mean older brothers. Who will help me? I did! But you couldn't keep one promise. Then you had the audacity to ask me to help you again?! You think I deserve to die? That my sons deserve to die? He gets the sword at Loki thanks to the Winchesters. Loki calls him a joke, a failure. You stand for nothing, and in the end, that's exactly what you'll die for. Gabriel says you first. Impales Loki. Loki falls.
**Nice touch having Loki and Gabriel with the same face. Because of course they still do.
Jack looks around. The humans were burned to a crisp. Mary's alright. Jack's horrified by the losses.
Sam and Dean and Gabriel outside. Gabe thanks them. They nod. So, this other world Michael, how we doing this? You're actually going to help us, no tricks? Gabriel says a deal is a deal. And if I'm perfectly honest, tricks are for kids. Dean gets in the car. Sam asks Gabriel how he's feeling? Gabe says swell, Sam. I'm a whole new guy. Sam says that's what I thought.
Jack says it's my fault. I said I'd protect them. Mary says we can prepare, we can fight, and sometimes things happen we can't see coming. Jack says if I can't keep them safe, what's the point?
Sam tells Dean once Gabriel's grace levels are up, we'll be good to go. He asks Dean why he went after Loki without us? Dean says you were handling those goons fine, so I thought I'd multitask. Sam says this is a thing with you lately. Since you opened the rift and sidelined me. Since you ran off with Ketch! You're treating me like I deserve to sit at the kids' table. Dean won't apologize for protecting Sam. Remember the last time we were at the Lucifer and Michael show? You died and went to Hell. I don't care what happens to me. Never really did. But I do care what happens to my brother. Sam says we're going to that place and saving Jack and Mom together. If something happens, we'll deal with it together. And if we die? We'll do that together, too.
Next ep - Cas says Lucifer is our responsibility. And they plan to go through the rift. Anything moves, kill it.
