SERIES PREMIERE - Under the guidance of headmaster Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), the next generation of supernatural beings at The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted - including tri-brid Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), Alaric's twins Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie (Kaylee Bryant), high-energy vampire MG (Quincy Fouse), newly-triggered werewolf Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) and the mysterious Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) - come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves...in spite of their worst impulses. Episode 1 - premiere:


When we're young, we're taught the distinction between a hero and a villain. Good and evil. But what if the difference is who is telling the story. I'm Hope Mikaleson. Tonight, during the full moon, we'll be opening our doors to someone new.

Boys go to the church. One tells the other to wait outside. So he does, and puts earbuds in. The church is chained closed on the inside. Priest attends to the boy. It's an exorcism.

Hope arrives. Landon. Hope? Alaric asks if they know each other. they hear a yell. Doors locked. Hope magics them open. Landon, stay out here.

The boy is changing into a werewolf. Hope uses magic to silence the humans. The boy doesn't know about the transition. They prepare chains. And now he's a black wolf. Landon came in behind them.

Mystic Falls, VA. Ric asks Hope how she knows Landon. Landon says we danced once. Then you moved away. He wants explanations. Where are we going? Somewhere safe. Wow, Salvatore land has changed? Expanded.

Twins meet the wolf boy. ric tells them all to behave. So, let's get started. Were you aware of us when you lived in Mystic Falls? No one in town mentioned anyone could do that. Float books. Ric says people in town don't know about us. He used to have a speech. But people have read Harry Potter. We run a school for people not understood. Hope wants to get to class and Landon wants answers. I've lost my mind or werewolves are real. This is beyond insane. How is this possible? Ric says it's a long story. We cover origin of the species in grade 6. Asks about Rafael. Who did he kill recently?

Twins are tour guides. Librarian Mr. Williams. Chemistry teacher burned all the hair off his body. LOL. Mr. Williams teaching about love charms. Penelope is Josie's ex. Twins will show them the turret where seniors go to smoke.

Ric tells Landon about the wolf curse. Rafael is an orphan. Foster system. Prone to anger. Hope says we're only trying to help. This is a haven for people like me, like Rafael. Landon says Rafael took a turn too fast last month. He started acting out. He threw a lawnmower across the yard. Foster parents called in the priest. Ric thanks him. Hope? She promises it'll be okay. We're ready. MG is brought in. He's a vampire student aid. Ric says we don't intend for you to remember any of this. MG compels Landon and it doesn't work. They stop Landon from running and Ric says get him to the cellar. This is bad.

Landon wakes in the cell. Rattles the door. Remembers being locked in a closet as a kid. Hope comes. You're not a prisoner here, I swear. We won't keep you here long. No one expected you to not be compelled. Vervain takes about a day to pass through your system. Just have to wait it out. He's not happy with that news. Asks if she could wait with him? She is really sorry about all this. Nice to see you again.

Game time. With magic. Twins giving Rafael the tour. It's called Wickery. My parents invented it when we were 10. MG and Josie not discussing Penelope. MG asks if Rafael will go for Lizzie. Josie says they usually do. Lizzie says guys like you make me nervous. Hot, angry, damaged. Rafael is avoiding girls, so I'll find Landon.

Hope and Ric sparring. She uses magic to cheat. Says he's a little old for breaking his human bones. He pushes her about Landon. She liked him. he's normal. Ric says we survive because we follow the rules.Keep it that way. She says you always tell me to get more. He said to come out of her room, not go around town. Heh. She'd rather keep her life how it is. He says Make a friend here and we can reevaluate.

Kitchen bring destroyed. Witch tantrum. Elizabeth! Hi, Daddy. Hey, baby.

Hope reading in bed.

Landon can't sleep.

Hope can't sleep.

Landon sits on the floor. She comes in. Can't sleep, either? Small spaces. You? She gets restless. My body has a lot going on inside it. He asks how she can move things with her mind. She says you ask a lot of questions. he's remembering the day they danced in Town Square. I'd had a good day. Just like me to crush on the girl with the most baggage. She'll try that sleep thing again. He says you leave a lot. She says I'm dangerous to people. Better if I keep my distance. He asks better for who?

His cell door opens. Then he's magically dragged down the hall.

In the woods. Landon gets to his feet. Found the kid party. Josie got him out. Magic all over. Landon says he was worried. Rafael seems good. He wants to introduce Landon to the wolves. Landon wants to leave. Rafael says whatever we do, we do together. Landon sees Rafael with new friends and disappears.

Ric trying to get Lizzie to meditate. No magic. Your magic gets you in these states and I want your mind to get you out of them. Dad? Do you think I'm broken? He says of course not. I think your biological mother's crazy-ass witch ancestors left you with a dark genetic legacy to work through. She says Josie doesn't struggle like this. He says Josie tries to help others too much. She is codependent. Lizzie is jealous of Hope. Hope never makes any effort. Ric says she's lost a lot. Knock on the door. Speak of the actual devil. It's Hope. She needs a release. Ric tells her back acres. But stay away from the old mill. Heathens are having a secret party I'm breaking up in 10 minutes.

Party. Josie and Penelope glaring at each other. MG telling a story. But.. Don't kill your moms. That's messed up. LOL. Josie and Rafael. We're sorry about what happened to you. He thanks her. He had a track scholarship to UVA. She was the best person I knew. Loved her the way it only exists in movies. Josie says I care too much, it's kind of a problem. He doesn't think it's a problem at all. She says give Lizzie a second chance. She's the best person I know.

Wolf finds Landon. Chases him. Hope leaps on him. Are you crazy? I almost killed you!

**Hope is able to shift in and out of wolf without losing her clothes. Yay for tri-brid blood.

Landon looking around in the Salvatore Memorial Library. She says the safest bet is to not touch things. Sorry about earlier. He says so, you're a werewolf. She says I'm a lot of things. He says humor me.

Kitchen. No snacks. MG needs food. I got the munchies. Penelope offers her blood. I'm offering to rock your world right now. He says last I knew, you're more into girls. She says rules are meant to be broken. I'm an equal opportunity temptress. So are you going to suck me dry? Or not. He kisses her neck. And then is about to bite. Josie catches them.

Hope tells Landon I'm not human. My dad was one of the earth's original vampires. Klaus Mikaelson. The Great Evil. He wasn't popular around here. My mother was a werewolf alpha. People I care about have a tendency to die on me. I try not to get close to people anymore. My grandmother was a witch, so all those things make me a - unicorn. I'm a tri-brid. I'm the only one of my kind. He says unicorn. She wants to show him something. From the day they danced. Showing him her memory of it. He says you did that for me? She says he had it coming. We shouldn't be here after curfew. Should get you back before anyone notices you're gone.

Josie comes to Lizzie's room and crawls into bed. Tells her about MG. Lizzie says bad friend move. Forget about her. Focus on someone new. I'm setting my sights on Rafael, if he ever speaks to me again after I was such a freak show. Josie frowns.

Hope asks for Landon's hand in the cell. Makes the ceiling look like a sky of stars. Thought it would help him sleep. He says you're a really nice person, Hope Mikaelson. I'm not going to remember any of this, am I? Probably not. He says in that case...and kisses her.

**Like TVD and TO, there's been nice use of music through the episode.
**We're setting up a sisterly rivalry over liking the same boy. That never ends well.

24 hours. Landon in Ric's office. Landon asks to stay. I don't have a home. I can work. Dishes, janatorial, I can cook. Ric says you don't belong here. Landon says where can I go? I just want a way out of my own life. Ric says this school was created to shape supernatural beings. Here to protect these kids from their darkest impulses. It's simply not safe for you here. I'm sorry. Landon says he understands. Ric calls in MG. MG apologizes about yesterday. We'll look out for your buddy. He tells Landon to forget what he's scene and know that Rafael has found a good home here.

Rafael and Landon say goodbye. Hope watches Landon leave through a window.

Alarm didn't trigger. 12th century knife is gone. Ric thinks Landon stole it. Hope insists it wasn't. There was nothing about him as a liar. There is no way that the one person I finally choose to get close to was a liar. I'm not that stupid. Ric says we compelled him to go home and he didn't. If his mind can't be controlled by a supernatural being, then it means only one thing - that he IS a supernatural being.

Landon on a bus with the knife.

Fir 10 years, we've gone undetected. Tonight, I need your help to find Landon Kirby before he exposes us all.

MG apologizes to Josie. he says she's not special. She's available. Don't hate me, okay? Josie uses magic to put Penelope's arm on fire. Hope witnesses it.

Hope goes to Josie. I need your help. Landon is my help. I can track him, but it involves dark magic. I'm looking for a kindred spirit in revenge. They prepare a spell. With a rat. Sorry. Hope kills the rat. Blood on the spell words. Josie asks if she's sure about this? Hope says absolutely. They chant. Hope gets flashes. Give me something. South on 29. State line. The knife. It's glowing. Glows a lot at Landon.

Matt Donovan locked the scene down. Local PD thinks it's a chemical spill. All the people on the bus are dead! Charred. They look to have died in pain. When Hope hunts Landon down, I'm going to be the villain in his story.

Next ep - Ric says we don't allow black magic! They search for Landon. And find a witch.


Hope and Landon’s first dance. There are multiple mentions of — and even a few flashbacks to — Hope and Landon’s first dance, which happened during The Originals’ final season. At that time, Landon worked at the Mystic Grill, the town’s hottest restaurant, which is how he first met Hope. What’s not shown is that during that dance, Hope’s dying father, Klaus, was looking on.

The werewolf curse. When Landon finds out Rafael is a werewolf, Alaric briefly mentions the curse that started it all, something he says they cover in a course called Origin of the Species. As Originals fans know, the werewolf curse goes all the way back to the Hollow.

Familiar faces. Outside the main cast, there are a few familiar faces in the episode, including Dorian, who’s now the librarian at the Salvatore School, and Matt Donovan, who’s still serving as sheriff of Mystic Falls. Matt is also mentioned when Hope references the sheriff who sometimes puts vervain in the coffee at the gas station.

Hope’s history with the school. Hope mentions that she first came to the Salvatore School when she was 7, which takes us back to the Originals episode that saw Hayley bring her daughter to the school.

Caroline Forbes. Although Caroline’s name is not spoken in the opening hour, Lizzie and Josie do mention that their parents invented the game of Wickery when they were 10, which of course is referencing Alaric and Caroline, who started the school in the Vampire Diaries series finale.

Josette Laughlin. The twins’ biological mother also gets a mention when Alaric tells Lizzie that “your biological mother’s crazy-ass witch ancestors left you with a legacy of darkness that you have to work through.” He’s of course talking about the Gemini coven, which we’ll learn more about as the series progresses.

“I care too much.” There’s no telling if this is a direct reference, but it’s fun regardless. At one point, sitting at the party, Josie tells Rafael “I care too much. It’s kind of a problem.” Vampire Diaries diehards might recognize the “I care too much” line from a pivotal Delena moment in season 3, after Damon told Elena he loved her and her response was, well, not what he wanted to hear.

The Stefan Salvatore Memorial Library. It’s only fitting that the man who saved the town — and who once lived in this house — gets a room named after him. (Not to mention that Stefan’s journals probably fill an entire wall in that library.)

Hope’s family tree. One of the books in that library has a chapter about Klaus Mikaelson: The Great Evil, otherwise known as Hope’s father, whom she tells Landon was one of earth’s original vampires. She goes on to explain that her mother was a werewolf alpha and her grandmother was a witch, in reference to Hayley and Esther.
