“Don’t Go In The Woods”
WHISTLING IN THE DARK – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are baffled when they come up against a monster they have never heard of before. Jack (Alexander Calvert) does his best to impress a new group of friends. John Fitzpatrick directed the episode written by Davy Perez & Nick Vaught. (#1416). Original Airdate 3/21/2019.
Episode 16:
Polk City, Iowa. Couple making out in a car in the woods. She asks what was that? He says it's the wind. Someone's whistling. She says that's not the wind. He opens the door to check it out. Sheriff is there. It's the kid's dad. Your mother called. She was worried. Girl wants to use the bathroom. You guys need some space.
It's gross in there. Lights flicker. She checks a stall and is disgusted.
Boy's dad says you shouldn't be out here but I didn't mean to embarrass you.
She goes in the other stall and locks it. Lights flicker. Whistling again. Something's coming. A clawed hand comes over the door and she screams. The dad goes looking. Her stuff was left behind in the stall. He searches the woods. Trips and falls. The boy is yelling. Crying. They find her dead with a bloody throat.
Sam on the phone. Dean comes in. What you looking at? Porn? Sam says the internet is more than naked people. Dean says not my internet. Sam found a park in Iowa. A lot of people go missing. 54 since 1943. Dean asks if he's up for it. Sam says he's good. Cas left early this morning. Dean doesn't want Jack on this. I'm sure he's good, but he's got his mojo back. His powers have gotten us in trouble in the past. I want to make sure he's right before we put him back out there.
Jack is reading. There's a Haitian legal code that bans turning a human into a zombie. LOL. Dean says we don't want the bunker empty in case hunters call. He gives Jack a shopping list for groceries. Jack agrees. Great! We'll be in touch.
Sheriff. How is this an FBI thing? Dean says it's government property. We're government. Heh. Sheriff says coyotes. Hmm.
Morgue. Dean jumps when he's touched. LOL. Slashes on the girl's body.
Jack outside in town. The teens. The boy watching Ghostfacers. They call to Jack. Are you lost? Ummmm no. The boy asks if Sam and Dean are fighting ghosts. The girls say they know about the hunter thing. Jack doesn't like to lie. Makes his stomach hurt like when you have to burp but can't. LOL. The store is closed. Girl has keys. Not anymore.
The kid wants to talk to Barbara's parents. Tom, that's not a good idea. They're grieving. He says Dad, it's my fault. Sheriff says they need a little time. We all do.
In the store. Girls feel bad for Jack. Living with a bunch of dudes. Beer, Kleenex, and Old Spice. LOL. Boy tells Jack about Ghostfacers. Jack says he's reading about zombies. Lists off the monsters that come to mind. You know about all of them? Well...yes. Jack, will you be my best friend? LOL. The girls ask if he hangs out. Jack says we have movie nights on Tuesdays. Dean picks. He's seen Lost Boys a LOT. They ask how old he is. Jack says he's 22. LOL. They ask him to the farm house outside town. No one goes there. She rings up Jack. For the beer, I need to see ID.
Sam and Dean researching. Sam found a Native mention of monsters in the woods. They spit up stomach acid.
Two hikers at night. He hears the whistle. She says it's the wind. But the whistling keeps going. He wants to head back. Something's out there. He sees a shadow sitting in the dark. She shines the flashlight. Who the hell are you? I'm talking to you, freak. There's a glimpse and they run. But the guy falls and it drips acid on the kid. Then there's a crunch.
**It looks like it was made of vines? Ish?
Looking at the file on the dead girl. Tom says when some animals will get a taste of human flesh, it's all they're hunt. Sheriff tells him to drop it. Deputy says there's a situation at Big Creek.
Dean and Sam talk to the hiker girl. I think it was a guy. Covered in something. He was whistling. I ran but ... Sam asks where were you when it attacked you? She says a few miles past a cabin. Sheriff arrives. Wrap it up! Bring everyone in now. Dean asks what's going on? He says it's a rabid coyote. Dean says you want to pull your men, that's fine, but we still need to go in there. Sheriff doesn't care if they're FBI. No one goes in the woods.
Girl thinks she'll fail the SATs. The blonde says you get points for spelling your name right. Boy tells them to go to the other room if they're going to kiss. There's a knock. It's Jack. He brought books on monsters. What's that? Music. Jack likes The Who. Dean says all music made after 1979 sucks ass. Girls tell him to sit. Jack asks what's the SAT? The S A T s. You were home schooled, huh. Uh. yes. Boy asks what demons look like. They look like smoke. Until they possess a human. Then they look like anybody. You've seen one before? Jack says i killed one. How?
This is an angel blade. It kills angels and demons. Boy tried to eat a Slinky when he was 3. Jack demonstrates how to use the blade. you can throw it. Like this. Heh.
Dean and Sam search the woods. The Native name for the thing means Whistler. Lore doesn't say how to kill it. They hear things. Peer into the dark. Sheriff says drop your weapons. Rifle on Dean's neck. Stay out of these woods. Don't care if you're FBI. Dean asks if the name means anything to him. Sheriff says no. You're lying. Dean takes the rifle from him. Sorry, Sheriff.
Jack throwing and still missing. I can do it. Watch. He uses his power to bring the blade to him and embed it in the tree. Boy asks are you a Jedi or something? Kinda. Watch this. Jack pulls the knife out of the tree, then floats it in the air. The kids are amazed and impressed. this is so cool. Okay, Jack, cut it out. Jack says don't worry, you're safe. But the kids are getting scared. Stop! The brunette tries to run and stepped into the blade. It's in her gut. She falls down. Crying. Go call 911. Jack says I was in control. Everything was fine. She moved! He says I can fix this. Pulls the blade out. Trust me! Then uses his power on her wound. She's healed. 911 operator on the phone asking if they're still there. The brunette lifts her shirt. How. Jack says I fixed you. The girls cling to each other. Boy tells Jack not to approach. Jack says she's fine, so it's okay, right? They say no and run. Boy says I don't know what you are. But stay away. Poor Jack is devastated by the look on his face.
**The problem of someone who's still a kid in his head as well as living with hunters who don't get freaked out by much. Normals freak like this. Especially kids.
We hunts things. Kills things people don't understand. So, Kihunta. Talk. Sheriff didn't think it was real. A tribal legend. Hadn't heard it since I was a kid. But I saw it the night Barbara was killed. Dean asks what is this thing? Sheriff says it's a who. Parker family were first white settlers. Things went bad. hard winter. They're son did things. Ate his family and went mad with hunger. He went after my people. When my tribe caught him......they wanted that boy to suffer. They cursed him. Doomed to roam the woods. If he didn't feed, his body would eat itself. The Kuhunta aren't born. They're made. They bound him to this forest. They marked the trees, but that was a long time ago. People forget it. Sheriff asks why don't you tell people about monsters? Give us a chance to fight back? Dean says people don't always believe. Sheriff says put it on Youtube. Sam says no. People die. Even when they know how to fight, people still buy. Phone buzzing. Tom in the car. Whatever's out there, I'm going to find it and kill it. He hangs up.
Tom in the woods. The whistle again.
Sheriff says we have to find him. I lied to him. I told him it was a coyote! He knows how to kill it. Silver blade through the heart. Sam says can do.
Tom brought meat bait. Whistling in the dark. He shines the flashlight around. Finds the old cabin. Passes the Kuhunta.
Tom at the cabin. The monster watching him.
Sam and Dean and the sheriff looking for him. Calling for Thomas.
It tackles Tom in the cabin. Sheriff gets there. They struggle. Dean carries the kid out. Sam enters from another door. It bites the sheriff in the shoulder. Sam shoots it a few times. Sheriff picks up the knife. Dean returns and taunts the monster. They lead it to the porch where the sheriff stabs it. It melts into steaming acid goo. That's like full on Raiders! LOL. Tom is alive but not awake, yet.
Tom on a stretcher. Did we get it? the coyote? Sheriff nods. He limps to the boys. Sam says tell him the truth. He's your son. He deserves the truth. They get in the Impala. Ambulance leaves.
Dean driving. Telling the kid, you think that's the best idea? Doesn't make his life any better. Sam says like you did with Jack? You think you really took care of it the right way? Sam says how many times did we tell Dad we were fine just to keep him happy?
Jack reading a book. They return. Still at it? Jack asks how was the hunt. Dean says disgusting. Jack says I got the supplies except the beer. Dean says you have tons of IDs. Jack says they're fake. They tell Jack we don't want you to use your powers. You just got them back. We shouldn't have lied. It was crappy of us. You deserve the truth. Do you understand? Jack? Jack says I won't use my powers without permission. Promise. Dean will get beer. Sam asks did anything happen while we were gone? Jack says no. Nothing. Good.
