“Spartan”
ERNIE HUDSON (“GHOSTBUSTERS”) GUEST STARS — After the Ninth Circle delivers a major setback for Team Arrow, Diggle (David Ramsey) reluctantly reaches out to a Four-Star General of the Defense Intelligence Agency (guest star Ernie Hudson) for help, despite unresolved tension from their past. Meanwhile, Oliver (Stephen Amell) discovers a piece of information that he believes will turn Emiko (Sea Shimooka) against the Ninth Circle. Alena (guest star Kacey Rohl) returns with an interesting proposal for Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Avi Youabian directed the episode written by Benjamin Raab & Deric A. Hughes (#719). Episode 19:
Alley meeting. Arrow interrupts during a storm. With Spartan. Where is Emiko? Irishman won't say. They're attacked by 9th Circle goons. The drive was dropped.
They bring it back to the bunker. Felicity plugs it in. Alena is pulling all-nighters to fix Archer. Drive files are fried. Not ARGUS protocols. It's Dept of Defense, the DIA. Rene suggests talking to Lyla. John has a different idea.
The general. Oliver asks why John is nervous here. Ernie Hudson walks in. John says he wouldn't have called unless it was very important. General Stewart introduces himself to Oliver. He's a big fan of reformed Oliver. They tell him about the drive. General can't hand over classified intel. He tells John your career is a dead end. He knows John left ARGUS to protect his wife. John says I protected my family. That's not something you would understand. Sir. Oliver says we should go. General Stewart is John's stepfather!
Future - helmet shocking Felicity. Connor and Mia with her. Felicity's trying to get the helmet up and running. We need to find a power module. Mia says she'll be back in an hour. Connor goes with her to watch her back.
Felicity comes to Alena. Archer talking again. Alena has an idea. Someone wants to buy the company. Dr. Will Magnus. Robotics engineering expert. He's building new AIs. Alena has a contact to make a meeting. Intruder alert! Ninth Circle busts in after the girls hide. Irishman picks up the tablet. Felicity pulls a gun on him. Alena brandishes a keyboard. He takes the gun. Camo guys drop in. Shoot some of the goons. You're safe now. Irishman still had a chance to run with the tablet and steal Archer.
**God, Felicity and Alena are morons. Terminator? Age of Ultron? ANY OTHER POP CULTURE REFERENCE FOR EVIL AI??? Or how about Dr. Malcolm in Jurassic Park?
Felicity with Oliver and Rene. John brings Stewart to the bunker. He apologizes for the DIA not being faster to stop the Ninth Circle. DIA has been tracking activity. John calls him on lying. Stewart says it was classified. Drive had a list of operatives. Assets have to go to safe houses.
John and Oliver. John says I'm fine. Oliver wants to know why there's so much tension with the general. John says he hasn't been in my life since I joined the military. I first met him as a lieutenant, my father's CO. The op went bad. My dad stayed behind. Saved the whole unit. Stewart made it out. My father didn't. 6 months later, he's coming by the house for dinner. He had me and Andy running Spartan drills. he called it tough love. Wanted to make us strong. But the first rule of the Corp is leave no fallen man behind.
Future. Mia found a guy trading Galaxy merch. Connor says not a problem. Trust me. She goes in anyone. Connor shows his mark. How do you know JJ? Heh. John Jr. is in Deathstroke!
Rene cleaning a gun. Dinah comes to talk about Emiko. Rene doubts she's all evil. There was a moment we were alone and she let me go. It can't be as simple as her being all bad. General says all the assets are accounted for except one. No response at the safe house. John volunteers to go with him. General says it's okay.
Dinah and Rene and Oliver. 3 heat sigs inside. Are you Julian? Why didn't you answer your transponder? He says he's in the middle of an op and you just blew it. Oliver wonders Who's the target?
Dead men. Stewart says those are my assets and rushes to the bodies. He and John crouch to them. General and Spartan darted. Dante! I've been looking for you.
Bunker. Felicity says we'll find them. Oliver wonders why kidnap the general? It's risky.
John wakes. They're tied up. They're alright. Where are we? Don't know. Ninth Circle safe house? John tries breaking his bonds. General says remember what I taught you. I wanted you to be prepared. It paid off. John says we're probably going to die in here. General asks about John's helmet. Dante enters whistling. Time for us to have a little chat, General. With a cattle prod. He shocks him.
Felicity has something. Oliver thanks her. Thrice decorated commander. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He tells her what John told him. She says it's not true. Pentagon said it was so successful he was appointed head of DARPA.
Dante wants a code. General gives name, rank, and serial number. Dante says you'll break eventually and shocks him again. General repeats it. John gets shocked. Give me the codes or.... Shocks John. General says 5 693016. Dante leaves. John says why would you give him the code. General says thank you is enough. Now let's get out of here. He's getting out of the binds with a shoelace. Cuts John free. John grabs his helmet. No power. General picks up the prod.
Spartan back online.
John and General redressed. Sneaking out. John says you're going to get court martialed for giving up the code. General says it was worth it. Leave no man behind. Hmm. 1 goon down a corridor. They take him down. More coming. Wall blows. It's Oliver with Dinah and Rene. Let's get you the hell out of here.
**Okay, so how did John's father really die? And just because the Pentagon says certain things about a mission doesn't mean that's what actually happened. Reports can lie. Agendas happen.
John bandaging himself. Oliver asks the general what they wanted. Cignus X1. Genetically engineered bacteria to eat nuclear material. Oliver figures out Archer will lead them to the weapon.
Felicity and Alena working on tracking Archer. She's finally realizing all the bad Archer can do. I'm a mad scientist. I'm my dad! Alena says you're not an evil genius. Felicity says Team Arrow is not enough. I need something separate that still does good. Archer was supposed to be that. Alena says we'll get it back. Then you make sure it's used as intended.
John standing off. Oliver comes to talk. You should see the general's position. He deserves more of your trust. Gives John the unredacted files from the mission. Your father died because he was negligent. He took 2 Marines with him.
Future. Connor got the module. Mia wants to meet JJ. Connor hasn't seen him in at least a year. They used to be best friends. JJ and John butted heads. Connor got in the middle. JJ rebelled. Mia says I'm sorry. I never thought about how much it sucked for you to not have anyone to share with. Connor gets attacked. JJ has a message for you. He and Mia run. Hide. Get close enough to kiss.
Felicity found Archer to find the weapon. Ninth Circle will know you're there the moment you step foot on site. John says we got this. General agrees to stay back.
Emiko, Dante, and goons come for the bacteria. She's pleased. Perimeter breach detected. it's your brother and his friends.
Team Arrow plants boosters so Felicity can regain control of Archer.
Oliver has company. Boosters are activated. Good to go, Overwatch.
Felicity can't regain control of Archer. She's locked out.
General tells John where a door is. Should lead to an access tunnel.
Felicity's losing Archer. Self-destruct protocol.
Emiko got what she came for. Take the weapon and go. Me and my brother have unfinished business. Oliver comes to her. She shoots at his arrow. He says Dante's been lying to you. He killed your mother. She says liar and attacks Oliver. They fight. She pulls a knife. They fight some more. He keeps explaining. Dante misled you. Doesn't care about you. I do. Oliver gives her knife back. Offers his hand. Blast tosses Oliver. Stuns Emiko. It's Dante. She told him to go. He says I told you I won't leave you. They run. Oliver is confused.
Felicity says she destroyed Archer. But Ninth Circle still got the weapon. Oliver says he told Emiko and it didn't make a difference. General thanks them. John walks him out. Dinah consoles Rene. John thanks Stewart. General is grateful for the time they got together. You will always be a son to me. John says Oliver told me the truth about my father. You let me hate you. Stewart says every father deserves to believe his father is a hero. If he could see you today, he'd be so proud of you. John says if I'm a hero, it's all because of you. They hug. General tells John to call his mother.
Felicity says we'll save money on servers because Archer as a power suck. Alena suggests rebuilding. Make it less stealable. She copied Archer's root code. We could start over. Felicity says no. It could fall into the wrong hands. My legacy can't be that. Alena finally concedes that legacy trumps payday. They then talk about needing a project that makes money. Alena says your legacy will be whatever you do next. You will change the world.
Future. Felicity puts the power into the helmet. Galaxy expanded Archer. A fully unstoppable army.
Dante tells Emiko to deal with her brother before he jeopardizes the plan. She agrees. Then shoots Dante full of arrows. You lied to me! You killed my mother! Tell me why! He says your mother made you weak and I needed you strong to lead the Ninth Circle. I did it for you! She kills him. this is for my mother. Rot in hell.
Next ep - Murder. Lies. Oliver accused again. Emiko framing him.
