"Drag Me Away (From You)"
FLASHBACK TO A YOUNG SAM AND DEAN - Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are asked to investigate the murder of a childhood friend, calling them back to a motel from their past and perplexing the brothers with a case they thought was solved a long time ago. Old music. If I didn't care.....more than words can say....if I didn't care...
Man enters a lobby. Mr. Travis Johnson? They don't usually allow late check-ins. He apologizes. He has a special request. Room 214. Been here before? A long time ago. Welcome back.
His hand is shaking at the door. He unlocks it. Turns on the light in the room. 70s orange. 2 beds. Opens his duffel and drinks from a bottle of booze. Phone buzzes. Caitlin is worried about him. Why would you go back to that place? He says one night, then it's over. It wasn't real. It was never real. Closet door opens. Child enters. Do you remember me? He drops the bottle. It shatters. Boy picks up a shard, says boo, the man screams, then he's stabbed.
Impala. Rain outside. How much longer? 7 hours. Dean can't believe they're going back here. Haven't seen the guy in 25 years. Sam says we don't have much else to do. Cas didn't say anything to you about why he left? You didn't get in a fight or something? Dean says just Cas being Cas. His phone buzzes. Sam yells at him to not text and drive.
Daylight at a motel. It looks smaller. We're bigger. Weird being back here. Dean gets out. Then Sam.
Boys dropped off in January 1993. Sam is hiding something in his jacket. Dean pulls it out. 1991 American College Guide. Why would you want.....? Sam wants to go to college. That's what normal people do. Dean calls him a dumbass. We barely go to school. This, Sammy, this is our life.
The orange room. Sam stares at his book. Opens his bag. Gun and knife on his clothes. He sets them next to the book.
Dean finds the vending machines. Gets candy. A girl says you're under arrest. Relax. Teach me that trick. Her little brother is Travis. She's Caitlin. Dean teaches them how to trick the machine into dispensing without money. Their mom works on the cleaning crew. She saw the car when they were dropped off.
Caitlin waiting for the boys to arrive. She hugs them. Sorry about your brother. Sit in a booth. She blames herself. Travis, he, after you left, he had a pretty rocky life. Drugs, couldn't hold a job. He started therapy....then....his doctor started prying about that winter here. Travis needed immersion therapy. He checked into room 214. Sam says is that where he.....? Dean says we're here to help. She says the funeral was last week. I needed to be sure you'd come. I think she's back. You remember that winter, how it started? She came for Travis first.
Travis the boy is trying to work the candy machine. Gets a bar, but he's grabbed and terrorized. Calls for help. There's a scary woman in the vending machine. Dean and Caitlin get there and it stops. Like nothing happened.
Grown boys checking 214. Caitlin insists her brother wouldn't have killed himself. Sam couldn't find any hex bags etc. Dean thinks maybe coming here sent Travis over the edge.
Travis the boy insists he's not crazy. Bobby says Dad's 2 days out at least. Left a message. Dean believes. Monsters are real. Me, my dad, we hunt them. Kinda the family business. Can you tell us anything weird in the hotel, in town, other people seeing things?
Missing children. 2 boys and a girl. Town has never found them. 3rd kid just last week.
Dean says that thing is not here. Caitlin says back then, you believed him before I did. Dean says that thing only preyed on kids, and I killed it. I'm sorry.
Secured in the store room. Reading the newspapers for weird things. Marking a map. Abandoned cannery. Dean thinks he's good to hunt. Sam says Dad wouldn't like this. Dean insists he's good. None of you has been on a hunt before. Stay. I've got this.
Young Dean goes to the cannery and tries to pick the padlock. Caitlin followed him. I'm not leaving. Don't you want a partner? He finally gets it open. Stay behind me. Looks around with a flashlight.
Sam and Travis play Boggle. They'll kill it and be back soon.
Caitlin says this place is gross. He says that's what hunting is. She asks if he's sweating. You seem tense. Scared, even. He says no. Stay here.
Sam kill you now.
Dean finds a key from the hotel. What did you see?
The game shakes. Table shakes. Game explodes. Lights out. The woman grabs Travis. Sam and Travis struggle with her. Dean gets there. Flails. Chops her fingers off. Eventually knifes her. She disappears. Leaves a garnet ring on the floor.
Dean in the motel hall. Noise. Sam? Boy at the end of the hall. Lights flicker. It runs at him. You know what you have to do. Dean carrying a knife. You failed. Say hi to Travis. Dean kneeling, about to stab himself. Sam arrives and asks what he's doing? Dean says she's right. Caitlin's right.
**Why is it impersonating them as children now?
**Slightly a shame the original child actors are grown-ups and can't play the parts anymore.
Beers. Dean apologizes to Caitlin. She says it was just a feeling. They all feel bad. Sam says second chance. So now we figure out what she is. Caitlin says she plays with people. Made a sick, freaky game of it. Dean says she looked like me as a kid. Sam will hit the lore. Dean says she keeps a nest. When I was a kid, I saw it. Dead kids. That's what he his from Caitlin. She keeps them there and feeds. Dean had never seen anything like that before. He let the authorities take care of the bodies. But he had nightmares about it for the longest time. Sorry, I should've told you. Sam says it's okay. We were kids. We kept a lot of secrets from each other.
Dean goes to get food. Asks if they have arugula or kale. LOL. Billie sits next to him. She watched a whole planet burn alive. Reduced to a cinder. That was the last one. The last world before this world. He'll be back. Soon. There won't be a moment to waste. She gave Jack his final orders. Dean asks how she talked the kid into it. She told him the truth. Jack killed your mother. He wants your forgiveness. I surmised the only way he can get that is killing God and getting off the, as you call it, hamster wheel. Was I wrong?
Caitlin says this is your life now? Sam says yeah. They help people. Except Travis. She asks Sam if he wants to be normal?
Billie says this is the last time I'll see you before the end. He thought she'd be there. She says according to Chuck's book I'm not in this part. Swell. She asks Do we have a problem? Dean says no. And your brother? He'll come around. She surmises He doesn't know. She doesn't like loose ends. I need to know you've got your house in order.
Green room. Sam finds something. Baba Yaga. She's Caitlin the laptop. The ring is her heart. Mom gave Travis the ring. Pulled it out of the vacuum. Unclaimed property. Travis thought it looked cool. Put it on a silver chain. Wore it around his neck. He had it fixed recently. Sam ponders... The stone, it used to be broken........? Caitlin?
She's at the car. Looks in the box of Travis's stuff. Hey, sis. Are you looking for this? She's attacked and screams.
Dean gets to room 219 with food. Sam can't find Caitlin. I think the Baba Yaga grabbed her. We damaged the source of her power. This ring. We need to find her nest.
It has to be close. Checking around the hotel. Empty. So far. Until Sam sees something strange under a door. The front desk chick is smoking a hookah.
Dean comes upon the vending machine. 212 has sex sounds. 214 opens on its own. Dean has seen this movie before. Pulls his gun. Door closes. And now he's in the cannery again? He searches the creepy halls. To the pile like before. Dead little Sam. Hey. Dean. It's Travis. Dean shoots. That won't work. Dean says I thought you liked kids. But Baba is starving. Attacks Dean.
Sam in the hall. Noises in 214. Caitlin is out on the bed. Sam stabs the baba yaga. Dean smashes the ring. Green fire and the witch is gone.
Caitlin thanks Dean. Hey, that thing....were you scared? He says always am. She says you have changed. The old you would've never admitted that. What do they say about getting older? You tell the truth more because lies don't make anything better.
They hug.
Young Dean hugs Caitlin and gives her a number. She hopes she never has to call for help. Bye, Dean. Bye, Sam. Sam asks if he ever found the other kids. Dean lies. Impala outside. John honks. Dean tells Sam that college....I don't know. But we do make a good team, right? We do. John honks again. They get in the car.
Boys on the road home. Sam calling Cas again. Dean says hang up the phone. I got an update. Billie paid be a visit. It's go time. Chucks done with the other worlds. When he comes, we have to act fast. And Jack's going to die. He's ready to sacrifice himself. To kill Chuck and Amara, Jack has to die. Sam says Billie told you all that? Dean says Cas did before we left. Sam is mad. Dean says I knew you couldn't handle it. You raise these ethical questions. this is how we end Chuck! this is how we get free! We don't get a choice. Sam says oh, WE don't. Sam yells at him to stop. Please. Don't. Just drive....Just drive.
**Sam, as the nerd, you know what Spock said. The good of the many outweighs the good of the few. Or the one.
