"To Whom It May Concern"
WELCOME TO THE SALVATORE SCHOOL - After a sudden mass exodus of the school's student body, Alaric (Matthew Davis) and the squad desperately try to recruit new students to keep the school afloat. Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) agrees to help Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) with the new student orientation. Josie (Kaylee Bryant) enjoys a fresh start on her first day at Mystic Falls High, while MG (Quincy Fouse) begins his semester of "no." Chris Lee, Leo Howard, and Ben Levin also star. Episode 6:
Ric fished a thing out of the lake. He prepped Josie off to first day of school with lunch and packed backpack. She asks if he's okay. He hugs her. Don't worry about us. Go get em.
Hope remembers Landon kissing her awake. She can't paint. Lizzie comes in to cheer her up and Hope says yes. Let's not talk. Do anything. Dad wants us to run the tour for prospective students. Hope suggests Wade do the tour. Lizzie says one shift. As soon as MG and Kaleb come back with returning students, you're off the hook. Hope finally agrees. Says she's not talking to anyone.
It's a small group and quiet. We'll give it a few minutes for the stragglers. Does anyone have questions? Where are the other students? Lizzie says we had a mid-semester break, but they'll be back really fast. Lizzie tries to lie about the reason for the break.
Necro Ted yelling. It's his personal Hell. Malivore created it to torture me. Why ice cream? Long story. He's wearing enchanted shackles. They'll only come off if he does the thing he would never do. He asks why Landon is here alone? He says Hope didn't leave him. We escaped, then something happened, and I got stuck here. Ted says time moves differently here. Are you sure she wants you back? Landon says you deserve to rot here forever. Ted has a key to a door out of the darkness, location unknown. Malivore likes to torture him with something just out of reach. Ted says help me out of the shackles and I'll get us out. Old fashioned team-up.
Hope remembers Landon in the hall. Then the lights are flickering. Lizzie bumps into her. What was that? Hope says nothing, I'm fine. Lizzie brings the tour to the great room. That's empty. Picture it with the fireplace on. Kaleb and MG arrive with Jed and Wade. Where's everybody else? None of the other students came back.
**Really? The kids have stood up to and survived amazing things.
Ric says they're not coming back. Parents said the battle against the necromancer was the last straw. And without tuition checks, they can't afford the teachers. This tour needs to work out.
MG doesn't want to entertain anyone. Alyssa broke his heart, so he needs a minute. Kaleb and Hope left. Hope says if we don't have enough students, we have to close the school. They lose the city charter.
Josie at her locker. Dorian! He's the new principal. Emma made him promise to get a monster free job. The locker was the other girl's idea. Josie smiles.
Wolf pack visit. This is Jed, our alpha. Is this the whole pack? Yeah. And it's intentional. Kaleb says Hope is also a wolf. She'd love to tell you about life here. It's great. We throw parties. Play a lot of dodge ball. She remembers Landon and her magic goes wonky again. Kalen asks her what the hell was that? If you go off like a magic time bomb, it will not make this place seem safe.
Landon quizzing Ted on things he might not have done. Necro says there's nothing I wouldn't do. Malivore knows where to stick the knife. Closing time. Ted dreads the next day during the night. Anticipation gets you. The freezer is always locked! He's trying to drive me insane. Landon says he tried to teach you a lesson last time. The customer is always right. He wants you to humiliate yourself for the human debris. Sing the song. Wanna be free or not? Ted groans. Landon says louder. If you're happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it. If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands. The chains fall off. Ted says you wonderful boy and clocks Landon, knocking him out.
**So parents revolted. What about the students without parents?
Landon wakes up in the shackles. Ted lied about the deal. The mystical door only lets one person out. He chained them together. I'm not looking for the door. He thinks the door goes somewhere bad. Landon is his plan. Landon says I can't escape this place. Hope is her father's daughter. She'll do whatever it takes. Unlike you, who waits to be saved. Come on.
Josie in science lab. Flirting with the other lesbian chick. Josie reads a note that says don't worry about us. Focus on yourself. From Lizzie. Josie feels guilty and leaves.
Wade finds MG with the mirror he used to use to talk to Alyssa. Jed came to apologize. Alyssa's in the mirror. MG doesn't want to talk. And doesn't like playing DnD. And it's not my job to make Jed feel better about being a jerk. I should do this more often.
Ric made a list of 30 names. Lizzie says you're down two. Kaleb says the tour is bleeding students. Jed asks what can I do to help. Who is leading the tour?
Hope. Brought them to the food hall. Where we have decade dances. Where some of our students discover their powers for the first time. And we recently had our first school musical. Her magic goes off and she knocks everyone out.
**This is where Aunt Freya would be handy! Or Vincent. One of the New Orleans witches that can guide her through this.
Ric checks the kids. They'll be fine. Tells his crew to give Hope time. And says they need at least two of these potential students to sign up. Ric tells Lizzie to censor herself and go along, okay?
Landon says this is your big plan? Wait for Hope to show up? Ted says it's infinite darkness. Landon asks if there's an inscription on the key. What exactly does it say? He gives the key to Landon. It's a key to the freezer! They fight over who can get there. Ted picks up the key and Landon tackles him.
Kaleb playing the piano. He's got the black girl with the accent to charm. She's got questions. What happens if we do not register? He says we're good. She says I cannot stay in a place where they will not tell me the truth. But for what it's worth, your playing is not unpleasant.
Ric and Gunter. His parents are dead. His guardians are from an old vampire line. They also taught me about how several of us were hunted by a vampire hunter. He's sworn to vengeance against said hunter. Ric drugs him unconscious.
Lizzie and the other chick. You know Penelope? She has a lot of opinions. Penelope said the best part about this school is Josie. Why isn't she here? Lizzie loses her cool and rants about Josie. The girl says I don't think that was about me.
Hope's vibrating things. She splatters a canvas. The accented girl arrives. She misses a studio. Do you paint? Hope doesn't want to talk about it. Are you sure? You've just expressed yourself. There's a game my sisters and I used to play. What do you see? Hope wants to go. The girl says there's something in you that's powerful and I'd rather not be knocked unconscious again. It's time to talk. What do you see?
Gunter wakes up. In chains. Ric still pitching the school to him. Let me tell you about a vampire I wanted to kill who became my best friend. Gunter says if you've killed supernaturals, you're not fit to be headmaster here. Nothing can ever change that.
**But we saw how it was when Ric wasn't in charge.
**Though this seems like a Caroline problem and she's not here or referenced to fix it. She's supposed to be the recruiting arm of the school, but more importantly, the partner. Shouldn't communications go to her as well as Ric?
**We all know about Candace. But the show's painted into a corner at times without Caroline.
Josie sitting in the hall eating. Alone. Why isn't he in there with the football team? Doesn't feel right until he earns his spot back. And he saw someone who needs a friend. She asks if he feels guilty for staying. He says a while. But they want me to be happy. So I'm trying to be.
Hope sees anger. Fear. My friends in trouble. I'm trying to help and making it worse. Everything remind me of him. I'm supposed to start moving forward, but I don't know how. The girl says you've done the hardest part. Said it out loud. She asks if it's so painful, why not leave? Hope says this is my home. Is it safe? Sometimes it's dangerous, but it's a place to be yourself. She says you're the first person to be honest with me. Hope admits they'll have to close without enough students. Girl asks how does a student sign up?
Ted and Landon crash into the ice cream shop. Ted puts the key in the lock. Opens the freezer. You were right! Hidden in plain sight. Landon attacks Ted and beats on him over and over. Beaten bloody. The cuffs fall off Landon. He jumps in the freezer.
**Lizzie has roots showing this episode and Hope's hair kind of looks like a wig.
Cleo signs up. No parents. It's just her. Hope says not anymore. Ric put Gunter back on a plane. But the other girl Gabby is Wade's DnD friend! Ric welcomes her.
Josie apologizes for acting weird today. It was one of the best days I had in a long time. Which freaked me out. Her crush emancipated at 14. But she felt guilty for getting out and being happy. You'll get there. Take it one step at a time.
Hope helps Cleo unpack. Lizzie smiles at them. Knocks at MG's. He's getting rid of the things that remind him of Alyssa. What's wrong? Lizzie feels like everything is changing and I'm worried Josie is going to forget all about me. Can I come in and hang out? Read some comic books? You're the last normal thing around here. MG says no. Not that I don't like hanging out with you. But this is our pattern. You ignore me until you need my shoulder to lean on. I don't want that to be our dynamic anymore. Our happiness is our own job. She agrees. We might've made some vulnerable mistake like have sex or something. So thanks, MG.
Landon writing in a journal. He's trapped and doesn't know how to get out. Writing a note to someone. He sticks it on the gate of the school. I will get myself home no matter what it takes. The letter rips off the gate in the wind.
Next ep - Leprechaun! Entices people to spend like crazy. So Lizzie wants to sell her stuff.
