“Do All Malivore Monsters Provide This Level of Emotional Insight?”
HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF — As tensions build between Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd), the latest monster’s arrival at the school will force them to set aside their differences in order to defeat it. Meanwhile, Alaric (Matthew Davis) comes up with an excuse to keep tabs on Josie (Kaylee Bryant) at Mystic Falls High, and Cleo (guest star Omono Okojie) helps Kaleb (Chris Lee) cope with a recent fallout with MG (Quincy Fouse). Episode 9:
Belgium 1933. Einstein. Men break in. And Clark? Toss the place and find it. Before Der Fuhrer beats us to it.
Ric writes the remember history quote on the chalkboard. Landon cites the original one. Monsters may be after Landon with the Ascendant destroyed. Kaleb nominates Cleo for the Squad. Landon asks where is everyone? Ric says enrollment issues. Hope says we need to find the portal the monsters are coming through and seal it up. Ric tells Lizzie to work with Cleo on summoning a harmless monster. Ric is of to a lead. We'll summon the monster when it gets back.
MG and Josie at Mystic Falls High. She's pointing out where the cliques sit. MG wants to try out for football. Tori Thompson is totally into me. Josie reminds him no vamp powers. Or Dad will yank us out so fast our heads will spin. Ethan asks to sit. Funding just got cut for football.
Lizzie comes to Kaleb. She wants to work around her dad's plan. She tells Kaleb that MG is staying with Josie and enrolled in MFH. You mooning over his comic books is a little creepy. Kelb reading John Constantine. He thinks they need to summon a pixie. They trade wishes for favors. Lizzie gets an idea. But she's not sharing.
Hope shows Landon the No Tribrids Allowed note from Lizzie's room. She has to tell him what she did to get him back. He tells her that she and Lizzie are more alike than you think.
Lizzie jogging to catch up to Cleo. Who sprints the last mile. Lizzie tells her she's in the Super Squad. What is expected of me? A heroic event approved by me. Hope catches up.
You were going to summon a monster behind my back? Hope says no, I listened to your father. Let's summon a cherub. Lizzie says pixies. Cleo says the monster is already here. A pink fuzzy tiny thing! Landon calls it the cutest monster ever. Hope asks what is it? Lizzie says I don't know but I want one!
**Is that a weird pink twist on a Mogwai? Because the ears. Like Mogwai/Gremlins. "Gremlins" was my first "horror" movie. 1984. Yes, I'm old.
It talks! Screw you! How's that for talking? They chase it. It goes in the vent. Too slow! Lizzie and Hope bicker until the monster fries the pool cleaning equipment and knocks Lizzie in the pool. Hope says it was a monster! Lizzie says stay the hell out of my way. People always get hurt when you don't.
Ric went to Dorian. How's Emma? She's teaching in Shanghai. Mac? Unh-uh. Ric brought the artifact. Dorian will call once he has info. Ric doesn't get up. Dorian presses for the truth. Ric is worried about Josie. I hate the idea of spying on her. But what do you have in mind? Dorian needs a sub for a teacher that called out sick this morning.
A PE teacher! LOL. Josie and MG not impressed. Wow, the shorts over...? Ric, you have lost all your cool. Josie makes MG promise to keep acting human.
Hope and Landon trying to identify the pink wee creature. He suggests apologizing for pressuring Josie. Hope says I'd do it all over again. And I can't change the past. Landon says you can change the present. Lizzie's voice on the intercom. Except it's the monster saying Hope has scabies!
Ethan bickering with another player. Until Ric has to break it up. Ric tells them to take a few laps. Except Ethan. Josie asks what that was about? MG tells Ric that Ethan got cut from the team. MG uses vamp speed to save Ethan from a semi truck on the road.
Hope confronts Lizzie about the intercom. But Lizzie was in the shower. Landon tries to break up their fight. Cleo is taking both girls at their word. Kaleb says the critter was just in Doc's office. Lizzie thinks he killed it from the skin he's holding up. But Hope says It's molting! Landon says it's a Gremlin! Awesome. Finally.
**It IS a gremlin! Too bad there was no Gizmo.
Landon examining the skin. Landon is shocked they've never seen Gremlins. Kaleb reads that this gremlin feeds on disrespect. Lizzie wants to use Landon as bait. Landon agrees. It's all up to Hope and Lizzie working together.
Ric and Josie arguing with MG about Ethan. Ethan wants a vote. He thinks the superpowers are cool. I'm happy to keep it. Ric believes him. But asks MG to compel him. Tells him he went home after gym class. He'll wake up tomorrow feeling better. And.....they figure out he's on vervain. Son of a bitch.
Cleo and Kaleb. She doesn't want to get used to monsters. She's unsure about staying. Kaleb says he used to feel that way. But don't let fear drive you away from something good. Cleo says Malivore is terrifying. How do I feel safe? She doesn't want to hold hands. He apologizes. She says ask again when our lives are not in jeopardy. He gets up for another book. And the gremlin is in the suit of armor spying on Cleo.
Gym. Landon notices on the map that the gremlin is heading off canvas. Kaleb bursts in. The gremlin took Cleo!
Kaleb wants to kill the gremlin. Landon doesn't need protection. You three find Cleo together.
Ethan takes the herbal supplements every day. Mom sent him vervain. He and MG can have that talk again when it's out of Ethan's system. Ric and Josie leave to talk privately. Ethan wants MG's origin story. You're going to wipe my memory, anyway. Like Zatanna wiped Batman. They both love comic books!
Kaleb hears Cleo in a well. Hope frees her bonds. We can levitate you out of there. Lizzie thinks this is too easy. Ground shakes! Thumping footsteps. It's a big nasty thing now!
Why is it so big? Cleo says I used colorful language as it dragged me here. Kaleb fires the crossbow. It keeps coming. Landon arrives in the Camaro. It's Gremzilla now! Respect weakens it! Kaleb says we're doomed.
MG tells Ethan he's a vampire. Ethan thinks it's cool as hell. MG also told him his parents don't accept him. Ethan doesn't know how to tell his mom he got cut, or who he is without football. Can you compel that into me? Yeah. But I'd rather help you figure that out on the other side. Ethan asks how he'll use his powers for good. With great power comes great responsibility. Time's up. MG says the vervain should be out of your system. Ethan asks don't take everything away. Leave us meeting today. I could use a friend now.
Kaleb will distract it while they compliment each other. Landon says respect has to be genuine! You have a lot in common! Lizzie disagrees. Hope wishes she could be as proactive as Lizzie at bettering herself. Lizzie wishes she had Hope's confidence. Landon helping Cleo out of the well. Hope wants the outfits and bluntness. Lizzie wants the icy glare. Gremlin is little again. It's tiny! And still talks. Kaleb wants to put it in a Mason jar and give it to Alaric. It's fine as long as they keep respecting each other. But Lizzie and Hope don't put good odds on that. So Hope stomps on it.

Hope and Landon cuddling. Don't leave this bed ever. He wishes that was the answer. He doesn't have the words to appreciate what she did for him, but he doesn't want to be a burden. I don't want to come between you and our friends ever again. I can't be everything to you. Worry about having me a little less and worry about having everyone else more. If she's going to take his advice, there's somewhere she needs to be.
I'm amazed at how perfectly they rebuilt this place. The Gilbert house! Ric says the shutters may have changed, but haven't we all. They sit on the front steps to chat. He understands why she took the risk with the black magic to help Hope. There's nothing more important to me than you and your sister. Maybe you'd know that if I said it more. She does know it. But don't stop buying me milkshakes. He says you can talk to me about anything. Just trying to get you go a little. Let you grow up. It's hard. Really hard. Awww. Malivore's way easier. On that note....I'm gonna head back to the school. She says stay for dinner. Aunt Elena's going to make an old Salvatore recipe. Plus, there's still stuff for us to talk about. Mystic Falls.....there's this girl at school....it's complicated. Ric says Malivore can wait. The last person I want giving you relationship advice is Damon! They head inside 2104.
Kaleb and Cleo taking the long way home. He wants to check on MG. He's my guy. If Hope and Lizzie can mend fences, no reason we can't. He can't stop thinking about MG being alone at this school. Then he sees MG playing ball with Ethan. Cleo says come, I know a shortcut.
MG didn't compel Ethan. Our secret.
Hope and Lizzie out in the dark looking for the portal. Maybe we work on it together. Landon and I are going to watch a movie tonight. Lizzie says you going to extremes got you what you wanted. But Josie isn't here for me. As much as I try to be tough, I miss her. Hope hugs her. We'll make popcorn. They're watching Gremlins.
The masked guy from the prison world is in a tree.
Ric and Dorian. Dorian has seen the artifact before. Einstein had it. And Rasputin. And Napoleon. Dorian thinks it's a cause for concern.
