"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"
GREGORY SMITH DIRECTS - In the wake of learning that Bruno (Chad Coleman) and Peia (guest star Daya Vaida) are married, Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) works to reignite Lois' (Elizabeth Tulloch) interest in taking Bruno down; elsewhere, Natalie (Tayler Buck) meets Matteo's (guest star Spence Moore II) parents for the first time, with disastrous consequences. Meanwhile, the Kent boys clash when Jordan (Michael Bishop) interferes with Jonathan's (Alex Garfin) training at the Firehouse, Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) bonds with General Lane (Dylan Walsh) over their shared fear of dating again, and Sarah (Inde Navarrette) realizes her mom needs a friend. Episode 8:
Chemo bag empty. Lois disconnected. Clark helps her up. She leans into him to walk out.
He carries her upstairs at home. She cries in bed under layers of covers.
Boys boxing stuff up. Clark in the barn.
Lois still suffering in bed.
Clark puts together a bed so Lois is downstairs. Shuts out the light when she's asleep.
Kitchen breakfast. Jon's taking his firefighter shift seriously. Jordan is hanging out with Sarah. Clark gets a text. Story ready. Head over?
Jon picked up the coffee order. Kyle is tough on Jon. Jon promises he won't give up. Kyle says we know. The team claps and shows him his jacket. You're officially a member of the national junior firefighter program. Let's show Little Kent here how to throw a ladder. Kyle puts a helmet on Jon.
Lana working on her laptop at home. Notification pops up of a concert she was supposed to see with Kyle. The Cure. "Like Heaven" takes me back to high school. Lana suggests Sarah come. Girls night in Metropolis. Sarah's hair is a straight dark bob. Sarah says it'd be a waste of a ticket because she doesn't know the music.
Peia coughing. Bruno wants her to postpone. You'll have plenty of time to meet the girl. Peia insists on meeting Matteo's girlfriend today. Matteo head coughing. Everything okay? She says tea went down wrong. She got him a gift. He finds a tie in the box. He loves it. She's teary. They hug. How do you get this thing on? LOL. She'll show him how.
Chrissy at the house to talk about the Bruno story. Lois is not enthusiastic. Clark thinks Chrissy is right. Lois isn't comfortable running a story on Bruno's family. I'm co-owner of the Gazette and I don't want my name on this story. I need to rest. Clark says he'll talk to her.
**Hmm, is Matteo close to both parents, or just Mom? Fathers usually teach about ties unless they aren't around. Same as how to shave.
Lois is tired of feeling cold all the time. Clark stokes the fire. She asks him to make her tea. He brings up the article. Lois says Peia has cancer. She's fighting to survive. Bruno being married to Peia doesn't take him down. She doesn't want to ruin Peia's life. Clark reminds her that Bruno is responsible for a lot of lives. Almost killed him and Jordan. Their secrets might be a lot more dangerous than ours. It's our job as journalists to keep digging. She says he and Chrissy can keep looking, but she's done with the Mannheim stuff. Can I please have my tea?
Jon dropping Nat off. He asks if she's sure she doesn't need him there.
Nat walks into the restaurant and Matteo lights up. She loves his bowtie. He brings her to his parents. Peia says it's so nice to finally meet you. Matteo's talked so much about you. Bruno says Smallville has been on his radar lately. Heh.
Chrissy upset. Clark says give Lois a couple days to change her mind. Lana comes in. Asks Clark if he wants her tickets to The Cure. Clark would love it, but Lois isn't feeling well. Lana asks Chrissy. She's awkward. Has a conflict - of timing! Lana leaves. Clark heard Chrissy's heartbeat without the super hearing lol. He suggests going to Metropolis. She asks if that means they'll fly.
Fly Luthor commercial. Lois turns the TV off. Her dad brings files from Diggle. She says drop them at the Gazette. It doesn't feel right to pursue Bruno anymore. But Lane agrees with Clark. You aren't one bit curious about what's in these files? How about you and I take a look?
Fire alarm. Jon asks to come. Kyle says as long as you promise to stay at the truck. They head to the fire. Get to work. Jon sees Jordan fly into the building. Then burst out the side. He inhaled too much smoke. Jordan flies off. Kyle barks at Jon. I told you to stay by the truck.
**Nothing wrong with Lois' compassion. Empathy. She doesn't know Peia was a criminal, too, so Lois doesn't want to hurt the supposed innocent parts of Bruno's family. Being a criminal doesn't preclude you from loving who you love.
Kyle yells at Jon. Fires are deadly, okay? You were a liability today and I can't have that. Kyle gets radioed. He tells Jon to go home, then heads into the building.
Lois says she could've used these files years ago. She thinks Lex Luthor killed Moxie. Lane gets a reminder about his senior meet-up date. She tells him to go. Makes her happy he's getting back out there. Please, get back out there, for me.
Clark and Chrissy talking to another cancer patient about Peia. Peia babysat her daughter. The woman says when Peia was in high school, something happened to her. She became quiet, withdrawn. i never saw her smile or laugh. It wasn't my place to pry. But when she married Bruno, it was wonderful. He reminder her how to smile. Chrissy asks about Intergang. The woman says Peia has nothing in her heart but kindness for the people of this community. You should know that by now. Shame on you.
Lane is looking for Megan. Just missed her. But she left a note. Lana at the diner counter. Sam, hi. Wait, that was your date? He says it's the first time he's late for anything. Lana asks if he got cold feet. then orders more fries.
Nat talks about robotics. Smallville doesn't have a program, so she works on it early in the morning. Bruno's impressed. They say Matteo likes to roll out of bed 16 minutes before it's time to leave for school. He says he's 16, it's normal. They're all laughing together. Then there's vibration when Peia speaks. Bruno wants to get the check and leave. Peia says she's fine. Wants to tell at least one embarrassing story about her son. The Mannheims are charming.
Sarah and Jordan listening to music. Jon bursts in mad at Jordan. Your dad thinks I went totally rogue. We didn't need your help! They argue until Jordan says I have heat vision and you're taking coffee orders! Jon says right, because you're the only one who gets to be a hero. He storms back out.
Chrissy thinks the travel was awesome. Lois opens a door. Clark asks what was she doing here? Lois needed space to look at the files. Chrissy says she doesn't need to apologize. Clark says are you sure? We just did more digging into Peia. Chrissy says they got nada. Lois says the files are how they nail Bruno.
Sam hasn't dated in 30 years. Lana has questions lol. Sam didn't want to be hurt again, so he buried himself in work. Asks why she's here on a Saturday night. She says she's trying to get rid of these Cure tickets. I have no one to go with. He says maybe it's time to get out there, too. She terrified of having her heart broken again. He says you have to take the first step. Jordan insisted I try.
Sarah and Jordan arguing about how he treated Jon. She pushes him to see Jon's perspective. Maybe go talk to him. By the way, going to that concert isn't just about music. Maybe your mom's lonely and wants to spend time with you. Are you trying to guilt me? Yup.
Reporter team going through the files and the story. Tons of gruesome photos. Clark finds something. Victim like they were hit by a train. 2 of the 86ers were shot. But no bullets. He and Lois thinking the same thing. Where is the Luthor recording? We need to listen to that again.
John sees his doppel sister. They've missed their siblings. She asks about his daughter. He says she has her first boyfriend. He says he's a good kid. The family took her to Little Aces. She says her brother went there all the time with Bruno Mannheim. Ruh roh
Peia tells a story about young Matteo wanting wallpaper with smiling dinosaurs. She couldn't find it at any store. Only angry dinosaurs. So Bruno drew them on the walls. Bruno says I'm no artist but they looked good. Nat teases Matteo. But it's a good story. Then Matteo sees someone. Hey, your dad's here.
**Dun dun dunnnnnnnn! Mannheims and Irons learn about each other. Please be civil for the innocent kids' sakes.
Bruno gets up. Matteo asks what's going on? Natalie ask if everything is okay? Guns brought out. Irons says Nat, we need to go. Bruno saysTake the kids outside. Then his men beat on John. Bruno wraps his hand. He hits John even though Peia pleads with him to stop. Bruno says I told you, if I ever saw you again, I'd show you the man I am.
Listening to Lex. Clark hears a buzzing sound. It's an imitation of Lex's voice. Chrissy says Mannheim's assassin killed the 86ers.
Bruno keeps hitting. I told you what I'd do to your family. Grabs a gun. Peia doesn't want this. John pleads. My daughter. The suit's coming. Peia blasts it with sound when it bursts in.
Clark hears John Henry in trouble.
John gets the suit on, but Peia blasts him outside.
Nat and Matteo see him fly by. Matteo punches the guard.
Bruno tells Peia to finish this. Her roar distorts her face. Superman arrives. She's blasting at them both. Bruno watching her stuggle. She falls. Superman can barely hear. Bruno distraught over Peia. Pleads with her to wake up. Superman says I have to get her to a hospital. I have to take her now or she'll die. Bruno allows it. Matteo and Nat arrive. Dad! He tells John to leave and he takes Nat away. Matteo looks at his father a new way now.
Peia being treated. She's in containment at DOD. It'll keep her powers from working while she's here. John thinks it's necessary even though Clark isn't sure. Clark says she has cancer and it's spread. John says she's a murderer. Remember that. He'll call Sam.
Sam apologizes to Lana for leaving. Tells her don't be me. Find someone to take to that concert. She thanks him.
Jordan finds Jon. He's on the phone. Finishes. Jordan apologizes. Jon says it doesn't matter now. Kyle was on the phone. He thinks someone with powers put out the fire. Congratulations, Superboy. They're onto you.
Nat asks her dad if Matteo's mom is okay. John tells Nat she can never see Matteo again. She says he didn't know. John says it doesn't matter. I also need your phone. Now.
The porch. Lois can't believe she was so wrong about everything. Clar says there was no way you could know about Peia. She was talking about Lex. I think we put him in prison for a crime he didn't commit.
Montage.
Lana and Sarah dancing in the living room.
Bruno and Matteo. Matteo argues with him, then leaves.
Nat crying.
John welding.
Bizarro is awake.
