Episode 9:
17 years ago. Clark and Lois discussing locations for their wedding. She's vetoed every place. She says the right spot will be worth waiting for. Just like you. Lois is nominated for an award for a piece on Henry Miller. She needs a dress for a gala.
Her doctor says her scans look really good. It's time to talk about next steps. Lois is wearing glasses.
Farm. Jordan asks Jonathan to not tell their parents about Kyle's suspicions. Jordan promises he'll take it easy for a while.
Gathering clothes to donate. Lois is feeling a little better. Clark wonders if she can move back upstairs after the last round of chemo. Maybe.
Lana and John. She asks to talk to him privately for a minute. Natalie and Sarah discuss his protectiveness. Nat is still mad he took her phone.
John says the last few days have been rough. Peia's still at the DoD. Lana touched John. You know you can talk to me, right? Ooo. His phone buzzes. Do you mind if Nat hangs with Sarah? Mannheim wants to talk.
John and Superman discuss that with Sam. John Henry should take point on this one. Superman thinks it's a mistake.
John enters an interrogation room with Bruno and his lawyer. John says give over everything you stole from the DoD. Lawyer says updates on Peia aren't enough. Bruno says she's dying! John says give us what we want. Bruno says I will see my wife one way or another. Sam and Superman watched through the one-way window.
Lois pulls a sparkly red gown out of the closet.
Flashback to her at the Daily Planet. Clark got her something. The dress in a box. She says it's beautiful. The first dress anyone's ever bought for me. Him, too. He sold his baseball card collection! Even Cal Ripken's rookie. He says she's worth more than it all to him. She asks him to be her date and they kiss.
Lois tosses the dress in the donate pile. :(
Clark wants to talk to Bruno. John doesn't agree. Thinks he'll be manipulated because both their wives are facing cancer.
The kids at the diner discuss Matteo. Nat wants to fly to Metropolis. Jon says his parents are crazy dangerous. Sorry it sucks, but-- She gets mad he isn't on board. John Henry arrives. She leaves the table.
Clark carries a box downstairs. He tells her about wanting to talk to Bruno. Lois says being empathetic makes you Superman. One of the things I love most about you. She won't let him hug her. I don't feel great. Thank Lana for the pot pie. It's the only thing I could keep down all week. Clark finds the dress in the box. She doesn't want to keep it. Doesn't feel right to save it for a maybe when someone could use it now.
Bruno comes home. Matteo asks if she's okay. Bruno says they wouldn't let me see her. Yeah, because you're criminals. Bruno says watch your tone. Starts to walk away. Matteo asks if they ever killed anyone? Bruno says how could you even ask me that? Everything we've done is for you and Hobbs Bay. You need to believe that. Matteo just wants to see Mom. Bruno says you will. How? DOD said no. You let me worry about that.
John and Nat on the sidewalk. She's pissy. SUV. Bruno's guys get out. Uh oh!
**Bruno's really good at acting like he's more innocent than he is. The hurt he put in his eyes at Matteo's valid question.
John tells Nat to stay, then attacks the men with the baton. The kids hear it and hurry out. Bruno's men take off when there's too much commotion. John tells the kids to go to Sarah's and do not leave until he comes for Nat.
Lana finds the red dress. This is stunning. Clark tells her about it. Even your Cal Ripken? Yep. She thinks someone should enjoy it. Lana says Lois' surgery is coming up, right? Have you talked to her about it? Clark, she's about to lose her breasts. He doesn't feel like it's his place to bring it up until she's ready. Lana suggests doing it, then.
Nat's standing aside. Sarah offers to talk to her. Jonathan says no, this one's on me. I'm sorry about what I said at the diner. Matteo's not his parents. She says what does it matter? I'll never see him again. Jon says if you really want to see him, let's make it happen.
Lana brings the dress to Lois's room. Lois doesn't want to talk about it. Lana sits on the bed. I know that chemo has been hell on you. The family. But after this is all said and done, it's your life and your body that will be changed forever and I don't want you to feel alone in that. So please, just talk to me, Lois.
Superman lands in Bruno's office. I came to help. I know how much you love your wife. I saw the fear in your eyes when she collapsed. Now Peia needs to see you, see her son. Give them the missing items before it's too late. Bruno says if they're returned, do you promise we'll get to see her? Yes. Superman hears something. This wasn't me. John and DoD soldiers bust in. Superman glares at him.
**Lois will be getting a mastectomy. That's rough. But real life.
They're going through Bruno's apartment. Every cranny. Superman and John argue. Sam is not happy John's acting from emotion. You're done here. Go home, John. Superman walks out of the office.
Lois has known about the double mastectomy from day one. Now it's all I can think about. I used to hate my boobs! I've had them since I was 9. Lana didn't get 1 until she was 12. She had to stuff her bra until it caught up. So much women have to go through with their bodies. Lois doesn't know yet if they can do reconstruction. Ouch. Every day, I lose something. My taste buds. My hair. Those will come back. These.....won't. Lana says you don't have to worry about Clark. He did buy you that dress.
Going to the gala. She's uncomfortable. Wants to Leave. Clark keeps insisting they're staying. I've never seen anyone as beautiful as you are right now. Awww. If she wants to bail for real, they will, but he wants the world to see how amazing she is. She tells the driver they're staying, a huge grin on her face.
That night, I felt so beautiful and sexy. And I was being honored for my mind. I felt so empowered. Now she worries she'll feel less feminine. I already do. And I wonder what it'll do to my marriage. Lana says you need to tell Clark how you're feeling.
Bruno says Wake him up. There's something I need him to do. Uh oh.
Matteo and Nat meeting at night. She asks if he knew about his parents. He heard rumors about his dad. But Mom having powers? That's wild. Things start to go sideways until He tells her that her dad won't let them see his dying mom. He's using her as leverage against my dad. She didn't know. But he doesn't want to talk about their parents. Because I love you. You're the only girl that's made me feel like this. She loves him, too. They kiss.
Sarah tells Jon he did good. Jordan apologizes, too. Sarah suggests they hug it out. LOL. Hug. It. Out. So they do. Aww, beautiful brothers. She sneaks in to group hug.
Clark comes home. You look like you're having fun. Lana and Lois say there's going to be a party. At the place with the tiny tank tops. Bazumbas. Now he gets it lol. Lana leaves. Lois says we need to talk about the dress.
AI tells John that there's a mobile thing flying.....here. Atom Man lands in the workshop!
John uses the baton and Atom Man isn't fazed. John tries to run and he's attacked. Tossed into the street. I was told to make you suffer.
Clark says when I saw the dresss with the donations, my heart kinda dropped. She didn't mean to make him feel that way. He says no surgery could ever change how I see you. She knows. But how you see me isn't the problem. He hears John in trouble.
John's crawling in the street. You're nothing without the suit. Superman arrives and tosses Atom Man into a car and stuff. Stay here. He and Atom Man fighting around town. Superman sent flying. John's trying to call his AI. Connection reestablished. War hammer arriving. It slams into Atom Man. Superman sees John and lands after John smashes into Atom with the hammer. I didn't have a choice. Superman says you alway have a choice.
**Do you think it was still self defense? Should John have waited for Superman to return? Atom Man is already technically dead, so the law probably wouldn't be an issue. So it's a moral one. Do you side with John or Clark?
Sam and Superman discuss Atom Man. Lana is amazed more people weren't hurt. Sam says we need to talk clean up. She asks if John Henry is okay.
Nat talks to her dad about this. Asks about Matteo's mom. How do you know that? I talked to him. Answer the question. He says it's the only way to get Bruno to cooperate. She says what would you have given to have the last minutes with Mom? Do you really want to be the person that takes that from them?
Matteo comes home and Bruno's mad he was out. Matteo doesn't care. You tried to kill Mr. Irons! And because of that, Mom's going to die alone and I'll never see her again. Bruno says she won't die any time soon. Matteo counters. Lawyer said she maybe has a couple weeks. You have to accept that. Bruno shows him what he's been working on. Bizarro. Why do you have him down here? Because this Superman is how I found the cure to save your mom.
Clark returns home. Boys on the porch. You two okay? They ask about John. He's been going overboard lately. Is he going to be okay? Clark doesn't know. Go upstairs to your rooms, okay? I need to talk to your mom.
She's on the bed. Staring at the dress hanging up.
She didn't win the awared. Clark escorts her to the limo. He'll write a letter to celebrate her. She knows where they can get married. Your parents' farm. You and me and our closest friends and family. Did you really mean what you said earlier? Every word. Say it again. I have never seen anyone as beautiful as you right now. She asks how fast he can get this dress off. The partition goes up.
Clark tells Lois he wasn't talking about her body. He was talking about her heart, her passion. Etc. She says you were also talking about my body. He does love her body. Even when it's scarred up? He says that surgery will save your life and there's nothing more beautiful. She brings up that it may change their marriage. She might not want to be intimate for a while. Maybe not for a long time. He's not worried, even though sex has been an important part of their marriage. We're in this together, babe, and I promise we'll come out of it stronger. She asks if he wants to cuddle. Of course. It may just be cuddling for a while, okay? Yes. She asks if he remembers what they did when they got home that night? I'm up for it if you are. He asks Right now? Yes, but we should get dressed up.
He's in a tux outside. She comes out in the dress with a hat and coat on. Wow. Will you fly with me? They float dance in the air. I love you, Clark. More than ever. They kiss.
