“Some People Just Want To Watch The World Burn”
THE SEARCH FOR LANDON — Alaric (Matt Davis), Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), and Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) hit the road in search of Landon (Aria Shahghasemi), whose sudden disappearance has raised some suspicion. Meanwhile, during an annual flag football game against Mystic Falls High, Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie’s (Kaylee Bryant) plan to stay under the radar quickly gets derailed after Penelope (guest star Lulu Antariksa) gets involved. Quincy Fouse also stars. Michael Allowitz directed the episode written by Brett Matthews & Julie Plec (#102). Original airdate 11/1/2018.
Episode 2:
Salvatore School. The Stallions. Hope says no legacy is so rich as honesty. She's never met a teenage boy with truth and integrity.
She's talking with the school counselor. She's focused on finding Landon. A beacon alerts the woman to dark magic. She asks Hope if anyone helped with the spell? no. Hope says this is my fight. Everything with Landon is because of me. I'm going to help Dr. Saltzman find him. Emma asks what happens when you do?
Hope has spells hidden in a Shakespeare cover book.
Carb load. It's game day. Josie and Lizzie. Lizzie asks Josie about the dark magic. MG says good morning. Lizzie is mean to him. Ric needs to talk. Josie says you have Dad Face. He can't make the game. He has to find Landon. The annual event allows the town to see them as "normal" so they let the school alone. He says we'll be back as soon as we can.
Rafael working on the SUV. You want this car to work, I'm going with you. He's my best friend. You seem vengeful. Hope wants to show him something. Touches his face. Close your eyes. She shows the vision she got. Your best friend did that to a bus full of people last night. He says no. Ric says he can come. Fix the car and hop in. And put a shirt on.
Lizzie says Dad loves Hope more than us. We can show him our secret stays protected on the field. We'll lose worse than we normally do. Mean girl tells them Rafael left with Hope and Alaric.
Stop the SUV. Into the woods. Ric hears a twig break. Someone's here. Finds a woman. Were you on the bus? Can you tell us what happened? Ric thinks she's in shock. Tells them to go ahead but don't engage. Kids leave. Ric offers his hand to the woman.
Game. Good clean, entirely uneventful game. Ref flips the coin. Josie tells Caleb to lose. We do this every year. Girl from the other team taunts Lizzie.
Rafael asks what really happened on the bus. Insists Landon will turn over the knife and answers. She asks why should she believe him? He says I don't lie. She says everybody lies. He's in the root cellar. You have 3 minutes to do it your way. He goes in. Landon hugs him. Hope follows. Tosses magic at Landon. Where's the knife? Landon lost it. He says the dead people wasn't him. There was this girl!
She grabs Ric's phone. Mystified by it. Then she takes his watch. He grabs her and she blows fire!
Caleb is a vampire. Flag football team. Townies are bullies. Lizzie wants to burn Dana's perky little boobs to ash. LOL. Mean girl and MG. She wanted them mad at MG. Then offers to help him get Lizzie if he wants her. Coach gets called.
Pyromancer. Only a couple dozen left. Ric says now there's one off Route 29. He asks how the girls are doing? Killing it by not killing it. Ric had borrowed a phone from a friendly woman.
Next round of the game. Fail. On 3. Lizzie gets tackled. MG makes a catch. Celebrates with Caleb. Townie girl says nice hands.
Hope doesn't believe Landon. Rafael does. Landon says she kept coming at me to get the knife. he doesn't remember stealing the knife. there wasn't a good ending for me! I didn't want to steal the knife or having a fire breathing woman coming for me! Ric says there's a fire breathing woman in the woods. A pyromancer. Hope says She wants the knife. Landon lost it while he ran around all night trying to find a place to hide. Ric says find it before she does. She's outside the cabin. He says we don't want any trouble. She keeps stretching out her hand. Maybe she wants the knife you say you don't have. They run back into the cellar as she breathes fire again.
**Her clothing and natural hair are vintage and she was amazed by Ric's phone and watch. She's come from another time, scared, confused, and really needs that knife. Wonder if she was locked inside it? Hope's spell to find Landon might have released her. The glow started from that and then everyone died.
Landon hands the knife to Hope. Sorry. I panicked. Ric needs a phone. There's a barrel of loot. The people on the bus.
The game. Josie drops the ball. Dana picks on Lizzie for being off her meds. Lizzie wants to burn them to the ground. Give the townies what we're really made of. Josie says this isn't what we talked about. Lizzie says I need you to get on board. The creatures use their abilities to score. Minor cheating that's still off the radar of the humans.
Ric talking to the coach. Dragon! She steals treasure, breathes fire. Ric says there's no such thing. Coach says people said that about vampires once upon a time. Ric says fine, she's a human dragon. Coach says you need a butt load of courage and a sword. Hope says how about a knife?
**Cool. Adding new creatures into the lore. How did she end up on a bus in Virginia?
Hope faces off with the dragon. The knife blocks the fire. Like a shield. Rafael hits the dragon in the head with a rock, then stabs her with the knife.
Josie reminds them to lose. Dad told us to lose today for a reason. We'll lose everything. You want Dad to stop loving us? Keep it up. MG says she's right. Mean girl says door number 3. Win without supernatural sauce. Lizzie says it's a good idea. Fair and Square. Let's do this.
Pull the knife out. Promise kept. ric asks if they're alright. Let's give her a proper burial. find a shovel. Coach calls. He says I found the soft spot. Ric says a knife to the heart did the trick. Coach was reading Puff the Magic Dragon. LOL. Ric says This was weird. Doesn't make any sense. Had to be something else. Behind Ric, it's a dragon. In dragon form! A big one with wings. Takes flight and breathes fire at them.
**Why was the human form a black woman that could've passed for a slave? Not the usual mode of dragons.
Hope tells them to go to the car and get out of here. She says the dragon wants the knife so she'll be back. Ric tells the boys to go.
Creatures bickering in the huddle. Time to win. Lizzie needs to throw. Josie tackles Dana to give her time. Caleb about to catch it. Josie spell him to fumble it. They lose.
Dragon flying over the forest. Passes over the boys. Comes back to Hope. She tells Ric to take cover. Uses the page she ripped out of her book against the dragon. Chanting with the knife held high.
Hope wakes on the ground. The dragon is back in woman form. Hope raises the knife. Dragon reaches out for it. Why do you want this so badly? Where did you come from? Say something! Ric takes the knife and stabs the dragon in the throat before it burns Hope.
Coach returns to the game. What did I miss? Kids are supposed to shake hands and part with good sportsmanship and Dana starts a fight with Lizzie and it's chaos on the field.
Ric picks up the spell page. What is this? This isn't earth magic, Hope! We don't allow black magic! this is a death spell! You had other plans for it.....Landon did something stupid. Maybe evil. But he's still just a kid, hope, and so are you. This hatred, this vengeance, this is your father. it can't be you. I won't allow it. You bury her and I'll see you back at the car.
MG heading back to his room. Penelope says time for a strategy sesh. It's a long con, Milton. Dana liking you, that's the puzzle piece you need to crack Lizzie's candy shell. Today was a total win. he asks why she cares? She says some people just want to watch the world burn. **Alfred played by Michael Caine quote.
Josie confesses her spell at the game. And I did black magic with Hope. Lizzie says you betrayed me. Josie didn't want to disappoint Dad, so she disappointed Lizzie. Lizzie will forgive her as long as she doesn't keep secrets. I don't like feeling like I don't matter. I won't put up with that. Josie apologizes. So, what are going to do about Dad? More like, what is he going to do to us?
Hope returns to the car. Where are the boys? Gone. Left a note on the windshield. Landon says he can't explain why he took the knife, but I'll explain why I ran. I've never belonged anywhere. Never had a place, a family. I lied to protect myself, and in doing so I hurt you. For that, I will be forever sorry.
Ric goes to the girls. Josie wants to explain, but he hugs them.
Landon says the night with you was one of the happiest moments of my life. Your school secret is safe with me. With regret, Landon.
Ric at the gate. Noticed it wasn't locking. We've gotten cozy here. Careless. I forgot the world is full of nasty surprises. I saw something today I never thought I'd see in this lifetime and it scared me. I opened this school to protect my daughters. How do I protect them from stuff that's not supposed to exist?
A gargoyle opens its eyes and growls with sharp teeth.
Next ep - hunting the gargoyle. According to legend, it's indestructible.
