“Star City 2040”
FLASH FORWARD TO THE FUTURE — Mia Smoak (guest star Katherine McNamara) and William (guest star Ben Lewis) venture into the Glades on a dangerous mission. There they run into Dinah (Juliana Harkavy), Roy (Colton Haynes) and Zoe (guest star Andrea Sixtos) who deliver some devastating news. The flash forwards share highlights from Mia’s childhood with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). James Bamford directed the episode written by Beth Schwartz & Oscar Balderrama (#716). Episode 16:
Remote cabin. Felicity is giving birth. Oliver tells her he loves her. Baby cries. Midwife hands it to them.
Little girl Mia training with Nyssa! Felicity watches.
Mia is a little older.
And an adult. She gets the sword to Nyssa's throat and she says you're ready. For a bow. Mia fires it.
Mom, I'm home. Mrs. Carter had that cheese you love at the store. Mom? Mom. Mia grabs a kitchen knife. Felicity appears with bobbed hair. How is Mrs. Carter? Mia says she's trying to set me up with her son. Felicity works at SmoakTech remotely. The city isn't safe for us. If anyone found out who we are.... Mia asks why can't we tell everyone if Dad's as big a hero as you say. Felicity says it's not that simple. She suggests a movie marathon. Hand over that cheese.
Mia accidentally shoots the wall and finds a hidden room in the house. Photos of William. She sits at the computer screens. Access denied. Initiating self destruct protocol. Felicity comes in and shuts that off. It's a side project. She's going to expose a corrupt company in the Glades. Mia's pissed. She didn't go to school like a regular kid. We had to hide here because Dad was the Green Arrow. Felicity says we promised we'd fight to make the city better for you, for our family. Mia thinks vigilantes aren't heroes. You've been lying to me my whole life. I don't know who you are.
Mia left for Star City. She wants to find out the truth about who the family really is. I can't be held back anymore. She gets the black star tattoo. Stars always fade to black. Erased. It's what she wants to be. Hears the prize fighting. You make a few grand if you win.
Mia doing handstand push-ups. William enters. Time to go into The Glades. She picks up the bow again.
Sneaking in. William having a hard time climbing. Get to a ledge and he rests. She says we'll have to move fast in The Glades. No one gets to kill my mom but me. William wanted the rest of the team. She says they're vigilantes. They only wanted to save the city!
Roy can't find William. He's with Zoe and Dinah. Still can't find the bombs. Dinah has a contact at the police dept.
She visits him. He says he can't help anymore. She asks about the murder of Felicity Smoak. Roy and Zoe keep him from leaving. He says Eden Corp buried it. Galaxy One is their front in the Glades. He punches Roy and makes him bleed. Roy attacks him. Dinah has to pull him off.
Mia and William reach the building. Galaxy One. They enter in suits. William tells her to play along. He uses CEO lingo. He's scanned. Mia's access is denied. Connor enters. She's with me. He scans in and they get past security. She asks who the hell are you?
Connor was tailing them. He pulled credentials for clearance. He's with the good version of ARGUS. Mia is pissed. You lied to me like everyone else. Was any of it real? Connor says all of it. William gets her to back off before they blow cover. William has a meeting with the head honcho. Connor has the tech to steal the DNA. You just have to grab it.
Rene comes to the team. He didn't think Roy was alive. Rene says stop looking for the bombs. Zoe confronts him. Rene says the bombs are phase 1 of the Star City Reformation Project. We're expanding what we do in the Glades. We'll evacuate everyone from Star City. Dinah tells him Galaxy One is a front for Eden Corp. He insists that Galaxy is not the enemy. Zoe pushes him to use his instincts. Rene pleads with them to let this go. Zoe says the hero I knew would not let this go. You may have forgotten that hero, but I haven't.
They meet with Kevin. William asks for coffee. He's evaluating Halcyon Phamaceuticals. Kevin asks how Harris got off the ground so quickly. City of Emeralds Capital was an anonymous angel investor. William keeps Kevin distracted so Mia can get the DNA sample. Time to go. Kevin says keep in touch.
Bunker. Zoe and Dinah. Your dad involved...can't be easy. Zoe says she's fine.
Connor escorts them to the access to sub levels. Swab goes in a device. Access granted. The three enter the elevator. Mia tells William to stay back. You're more useful to me not dead. And she thinks the angel investor was Mom. She loved Wizard of Oz. Mia attacks a guard and shoots an arrow in another. Connor attacks the other guard. Then she tackles him. Chokes him with her bow. Mom. You are alive. Felicity says I told you not to come.
**Hmm, actually looks like Emily's hair is genuinely shorter. Did she cut it and they've used extensions for other eps?
Was my message not clear? I wanted you out of Star City. The coordinates were for the bombs, not me. Connor gets her out of the cell. She tells William it's good to see you and they hug with tears. I'm so sorry. Connor says we have to go. Felicity has to disable the bombs. Mia picks at her. Stay out of it for once in your life. Family first. Felicity says being a hero is putting others first before yourself. Being a hero is my purpose. I can't leave. William wants to help. Where to? Connor gives him the device. William and Felicity leave.
She's used to being a disappointment to Mia. 3 heat signatures heading to them. Zoe! And Dinah and Roy. Dinah says it's so good to see you alive. She hugs Felicity. You could've told us we were on the same side. Felicity says being The Calculator was the only way. She apologizes for not telling them about Mia.
Mia and Connor. He's only here to back her up. She is mad he thought she needed protection. He wanted to tell her the truth, but she'd hate him the minute he did. She says do you have any idea what it's like to have a relationship built on a lie? Connor's adoptive parents weren't around much, but he's proud of them. With great power comes great responsibility. Spiderman? She's not into comics. He says We have to be selfless and share our parents. The responsibility of superhero kids. I got to choose. You didn't. Until today. If you go out that door, you're doing what Felicity wants. Don't let her mistakes make your choice for you. It's on you now.
Someone coming. It's the kids. Don't make a big thing of it. Enter the safe for the bombs. Room lights up. Where are they? Rene says they're already on site. Tells Felicity you really are alive. She says no thanks to you or your friend Kevin Dale. He tells Zoe you were right. You were all right. The attack on Star City happens tonight with zero plan to evacuate.
**Mia wasn't really lied to. She was a kid who wasn't told things she didn't have business knowing until she was an adult. But of course she's all emotion and rage. Like a brat. She might have survival skills but her emotional maturity is like a 12 year olds.
Dale will pin the plan on a vigilante. Mia asks why they should believe Rene. Felicity tells him Mia is her and Oliver's kid. He didn't know, either. They figure out Dale's fidget cube is the bomb device.
Party time. A masquerade and cape party. Tiny computers in everyone's fabrics. Felicity and William doing the nerd stuff. They bump men to try to find Dale. Felicity rambles to Mia about not knowing who her type is. Mia bumps Dale. She goes after him.
Your festival sucks. he was expecting a Canary. Who the hell are you? She says hand that thing over or I'll take it. Guards enter the office. Take her alive. We'll talk after the festival. She drops the mask and cape and shuts down the lights. She fights with the guards. They're down. She puts the cloak back on. Dale is in the crowd again. We need to thin the herd. Roy and Dinah expose themselves. Rene yells for help. Vigilantes! Felicity tells Mia she has 30 seconds. She shoots and gets Dale's cube. Bombs are deactivated. Let's the get the hell out of here. Fireworks go off for the festival.
**In 2040, everyone's clothes have tiny computers. Plausible. People are working on smart fabrics now.
**The dark office allowed Mia's stunt double to do the fight without exposing the face.
Rene gives a press talk on TV. He blames Arsenal, Black Canary, and The Calculator for the attack. $10,000 bounty on each of them.
About to get rougher for everyone. Best way to take down Galaxy is from the inside. Dale wants Star City as a proof of concept to take Archer global. Felicity is proud of William. He's glad he didn't completely hate her. Mia says she needs air. Felicity goes after her.
Rene and Dale. Yes, I want them dead. Dale says they were your friends once. They knew what we were planning and how to stop us. Rene says if I'd known about the timeline, maybe you wouldn't have kept Felicity Smoak in the same building. Dale shows him a helmet that will rid the world of vigilantes for good.
Felicity enters Mia's room. Still not a fan of cleaning. Mia's not interested. Felicity wishes she could have her out of all of this. Mia was so mad at her. She read the news about how the vigilantes destroyed Star City. I was convinced you lied my whole childhood. You didn't want me to think badly about you or Dad. I hated vigilantes because I hated you. I understand why you wanted to protect me. Can't understand what it was like for an entire city to turn on you, on Dad. Felicity says you're so like your father. So badass. I'm so proud of you. Mia asks why stopping Galaxy is personal? Is it about Dad? no. That one's on me.
Present day Felicity gets Archer online on her laptop. Archer is active.
