“Ouroboros”
THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG? – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) enlist the help of Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) to track down a demi god who feasts on human flesh. The challenge of keeping Michael at bay is proving to be more difficult than originally anticipated. The episode was directed by Amyn Kaderali and written by Steve Yockey. (#1414). Episode 14:
Raton, New Mexico. Cooking with music playing. Dude removes a human liver! Cuts, then marinates and cooks it. Felix the snake is his pet. The guy eats an eyeball and his eyes snake out. Hunters on their way. Saves the other eye as a snack for later. He leaves the house.
7:30. Pots on the stove. Burnt meat. Dean and Cas and Jack enter the house. Dean upstairs. Cas and Jack find the body. He's cooking the body parts again. Sam has nothing. thought we had him this time! Dean says no restraints again. Rowena enters. Dean says a lot of times it's witches. Sam says your tracking spell was supposed to make this easier. They've been chasing this guy for weeks. Rowena says the killer was here quite recently. She says Hello, Castiel. Heh. Jack finds a shed snake skin. Jack is coughing. Says he's fine. I'm not dying. Cas says this thing has killed at least 6 people in northern New Mexico. Rowena notices the black lips.
She and Sam studying. She says Jack was on death's door. You think I'll leave it at oh some magic? She's curious. And curious how Dean is keeping the archangel locked in his mind. Sam says we're working on it. For now, staying busy is good.
Dean thinks Rowena and Sam can crack it. He and Cas in a diner. Dean's feeling Michael. Cas can't imagine the willpower it's taking to keep Michael imprisoned.
Jack in the bathroom coughing. Uncontrollably. He spits blood again.
Cas asks are you really fine? Dean doesn't know. But it's what we all say. No, Dean. Okay. There's this pounding in my head. It never stops. Michael is fighting hard to get out. And I can't let my guard down for a second. I'm barely sleeping. Cas says that's not sustainable. Dean knows. But no complaining about it. It's on me. Cas says it's on us.
Jack uses some magic to fix his throat.
Dean says I agreed to give you guys time. But if you don't, we still have plan B. Coffin. Ocean. Done. Jack returns. Cas asks if he's alright. I'm fine. Dean says everyone's fine. Heh. Cas says there's a ritualistic quality to the crime scenes. Almost liturgical. Maybe this is a deranged person who's getting lucky. Jack says they're a monster, even if they're human. Sam calls.
Made some progress. AV Club presentation. LOL. Rowena says we're hunting a Gorgan. Ancient cursed being. Dean says like Medusa. Clash of the Titans. Rowena says the stone is an exaggeration. It uses venom. Paralysis. Hence the black lips. 17 people have died. Cas asks why it keeps alluding us. Rowena says by consuming eyes, it glimpses the future. Jack asks how do we get him? Sam doesn't know.
Truck stop. Gorgan wants to hitch with a driver. I'll pay you back. Anything you want. You definitely want things. Driver says get in and we'll work it out. So, ready to do....anything? Gorgan kisses him and poisons him. So much easier in the truck. My poison is paralyzing you. But you're going to feel this. He rips an eye out and eats it. Gets a vision.
**The snake eye green effect is cool.
Daytime. Police at the truck. Dean and Cas arrive. Cop is a bit freaked out. There's a note on the body. To Dean. What does it say? Dean doing this now. He sees Sam and Rowena. Stop or I'll make you stop. Cas wasn't mentioned.
Dean calls. Noah can't see Cas and Jack. Sam says this guy can't see angels. You might surprise him. Dean says Rowena, get your tracking spell ready. And she'll whip up an antidote to the venom.
They bring a dog to a vet's office. Sam and Rowena bicker. The tech takes the dog. What's his name? Jack. She'll take the dog in back. Rowena thinks her performance was quite magnificent.
Tech talking to the dog. You wait right there. She leaves the room. Jack gets off the table. Ha!
She comes out and Sam and Rowena are gone.
Jack looks for the antivenom.
She returns and there's no dog, either.
Jack gets outside. He wishes he could've got it before the vet took his temperature. Rowena asks what did you do to that boy? She's worried. What did you do? Sam says we're being careful and that's all you need to know.
Noah has his next victim. Weeping man. He stays quiet, and he doesn't have to die like all those other men. He wants vegetable oil. It's in the cupboard by the oven. Noah doesn't enjoy eating people. But sometimes fate is cruel and boring. The man doesn't think he's serious. Noah is insulted. You're preying on helpless men? He says no, I prey on women, too, but they're so cautious lately. The man screams for help. Noah paralyzes him. Felix, let's figure out how to work that oven.
Rowena working.
Sam calls home. Gorgan's head has to be chopped off with a silver blade. Mary checked in. She's driving back tonight. Sam thanks her, then hangs up. Rowena says he's west of us and not moving. Dean thinks it's like Clash of the Titans again. Rowena says this should counteract the poison. Theoretically.
Knock on the door. Cas and Jack break in. Noah says no fair. You're not human. Cas checks the man. Noah taunting Jack. Tells him a story about the Black Snake. The chicken hardboiled her final egg to choke the snake and it died. Noah can't tell if Jack is the chicken or the snake. Cas falls down poisoned. Jack fights the Gorgan. Dean and Sam bust in. Sam attacks. Then Dean. Dean hits his head hard. Knocked out!
Sam attacks and gets tossed. Noah's leaving. Jack slices his head off! Sam says check on Cas. I got Dean. Dean has a head wound. Jack gives Cas the antidote. Jack uses his power on Cas. Cas breathing. Dean isn't waking up.
Impala. Bunker. Carrying Dean into the infirmary. Cas touches his head. Can't heal him. Can't see inside. Jack says I can help. Cas says no. You can't afford to burn off any more of your soul. Jack runs out. Rowena says so that's what you have him doing? Sam says not the time. Cas leaves the room. Rowena says clean his would, make him comfortable, then, we'll see. She leaves. Dean lurches up. Then stills.
Rowena with a book.
Snake in a tub. Jack sits in his room. Cas finds him. Jack hates seeing Dean like that. It was just a fight. Cas says there's always a risk. Jack can't think of losing them. I hate thinking about it. Cas does, too. But Sam and Dean are human. Humans burn bright but for a very brief time compared to things like us. Eventually, they're gone and we have to carry on. Part of growing up. Losing people. Yes. Jack asks what's the point of being a cosmic being when everyone I care about will leave? Cas says that hurt will remind you of how much you love them. Jack says it sounds awful. Cas says it's living. Appreciate the time we have together now. Jack says what if he doesn't wake up. What if Michael... Cas says no. Jack argues. Cas knows how frustrating this is. Jack goes to the snake. Rowena says Gorgans can see people's fate. Noah could see me. Cas says he was stalling. It's a story about greed, mostly. Also about giving up the thing you love in order to defeat the thing you hate.
Dean freaking out. Where is he?! He's gone. Michael. He's gone. How? this is my fault. I let my guard down. I told you to let me take that coffin ride to the bottom of the ocean! Maggie screams! Her eyes are burned out and the other hunters are dead, too. Rowena says hello. Michael's in her!!
**Oh. Shit.
Could've burned them all, but feeling very hands on. Thought you'd appreciate this vessel. Cas says let her go. Sam says Rowena would never let you in.
Rowena flipping pages. Hears a whisper. Investigates. Michael/Dean behind her. this is all in your mind. It was him, not me. I'm looking for a new home. Say yes and I'll leave you alive. She says I'll live either way. Fate says Sam will off me. I'm flattered, but I think we can both do better. Michael says a new offer. I'll kill everyone in this bunker. Everyone you care about. Say yes. Choice is yours. She nods.
I had no intention of keeping my word. But I think she knew that. If only Dean used that coffin when he had the chance. Dean tells Sam to get the cuffs. Michael uses magic to down them. What if you couldn't breathe? And were blind. What if you just hurt. But fun as this is, this time you all die. This time, the world burns. Jack grabs a weapon and Michael tosses magic at him.
Jack says let them go. Michael says your power now is nothing. Jack attacks Michael. Michael blasts him again. Jack keeps coming. Michael says I won't be challenged by a child! Jack says he's not a child. I'm the son of Lucifer. I'm a hunter. I'm a Winchester. And uses his power to force Michael out of Rowena. You won't hurt anyone ever again! Then he takes Michael's grace into his body. Jack? Michael, he's dead. Jack, are you....? Jack says I'm me again. His eyes glow and he shows big wings.
