DON’T LET YOUR PAST DEFINE YOU – Upon learning the key to opposing The Monitor (guest star LaMonica Garrett), Oliver (Stephen Amell) and team return to Russia on a mission to gather the necessary materials. “Prochnost” is Russian for durability or endurance.
Arrows at tennis balls. Oliver teaching Mia. This is the warmup. Now he shows her specialty arrows. These are just tools. Rely on them too much, and they're just crutches. She's finally pinning most of the tennis balls released at once.
What's next? Kali. Nyssa taught you well. He gets her neck. Keep flowing and it becomes second nature. William created an algorithm to find the Russian general. Alexi Burov. He was working on a pulse wave generator. Plutonium is the only way to power it. Dig has a location. 2 man team can get it done. Oliver asks William and Mia to come to Russia with him and Laurel.
Diggle wonders if Russia is a good place for a tutorial. Oliver thinks he can teach them the good without showing them the bad.
Lyla meets with Laurel. you're working with The Monitor. Why? Lyla says The Monitor is not destroying worlds. He's trying to save them. Do you want to get your earth back or not? She tells Laurel to get the plans in Russia before Oliver does. Lyla says she's doing this to protect the people she cares about. Contact me when it's done. Laurel says here i thought I was supposed to be the bad guy.
John comes looking for Jason. Roy working on a car. William found him. John asks for help. Roy says no. You know what I did. I'm not a hero anymore, John. Thea said you left without saying goodbye. Roy says it was for the best. It was good to see you, John. Diggle keeps pushing. I wouldn't be here if we did not need you. Roy says if I help you, it's a one time thing. John says that's all I'm asking. Brought Roy's Arsenal suit.
Oliver and Anatoly hug. Welcome to Russia, my favorite American.
Anatoly thinks meeting the adult children is crazy lol. William speaks Russian. Anatoly likes him. Oliver asks Anatoly to keep this in the family. Okay.
Spartan and Arsenal. Stealing the plutonium before it gets inside. Must be weird, Oliver meeting his future son. Dig tells Roy about Connor. Roy says you didn't need me for this, John. So what are we really doing here. John says you atone by rejoining the team. Roy says he'll help because he's here, but once we're done, I'll disappear to a place even William can't find me.
Anatoly found Burov. But you can only find him at the Bloodbath. Fight club. Oliver learns that Mia grew up in fight clubs. Oliver says this is the Bratva. They're terrible people and you're my kids. We're not kids. You are when I look at you! I'm sorry, but this is how it's going to be.
Anatoly takes Laurel and Oliver in. Burov on an upper level. Oliver asks to talk. Burov says this fight is boring, so let us.
Why should I give to you, Kapushin? But Burov is willing to make deal. He needs a fighter. Oliver wins and they get the plans. Burov is happy. Laurel says that goliath is twice your size. Oliver says so I give him half the chance. heh.
Anatoly thinks Laurel is like snow leopard. Cannot change spots. She says you changed yours. Worry about your friend.
Oliver in the cage. He's getting beat first. Then gets up and retaliates. Burov pleased. Mia and William arrived to see Oliver win. Oliver comes out of the cage.
Burov is man of my word. But Mia got caught snooping. Bratva has her at gun point. The general operates here because we say he can and we did not say. Things go south. Oliver knocked out.
**Good grief, they need to write more of Oliver's self-preservation into Mia and less of Felicity's bumbling curiosity that gets her in danger or other people killed. She's not 15! Nor would Nyssa have stood for this reckless nonsense.
**Can we get Nyssa back to speak blunt truth in her way again, by the way? Just once before the show ends? Nyssa now meeting Mia would have SO many assessments that would be too entertaining.
Oliver wakes. Mia, tied up next to him. Are you okay? I'm fine. Where are we? Probably some Bratva hideout. What were you thinking, Mia? I told you to stay put! She asks why he's Kapushin. She keeps arguing with him. Bratva comes in. Tell me what's on this. Oliver says no. Man points a gun at Mia's head. Oliver says they're plans for a weapon that Burov's making. Now we move on to next phase.
William with Anatoly. Phones are dead. Laurel asks about tracking devices.
John and Roy. Roy wants to know about the future. William found you on Lian Yu. You go back to Star City and help the kids to save the city. You got your bloodlust under control by being part of a team. Roy says it's ballsy giving me the answer 20 years earlier.
Mia's free of the chair. Oliver tells her don't go to the line. Bratva says Ring the bell. You have 60 seconds. Begin. Ah, the gauntlet Oliver once had to do. 20 seconds and counting. 3, 2, 1. Time up and she didn't reach the bell. Bratva fires the gun with no bullet. He needed to make sure Oliver wasn't lying about the drive.
William got footage of Oliver and Mia. Anatoly says let's go save day.
Mia retied up. Oliver dislocated his thumbs to get out of the chair. Frees Mia. Laurel and Anatoly show up.
Anatoly tells Mia very impressive to not die. Heh. She's still bickering with Oliver. Now they need to find out when and where the sale is happening and recover the drive. Oliver says the kids will go home. Mia says no. William agrees. Oliver says I'm your father. It's my primary job in the world to protect you. This is months after I'm heartbroken that I couldn't get you on the phone at your grandparents. And looked at you in your crib. I made a promise to your mother to keep you safe and there's no world, no past present or future where I break it!
Roy and John trying to get the plutonium. Roy gets a little too aggressive. John stops him, gets him to focus, and they leave with the plutonium.
Anatoly wants a drink. Oliver says he's good. Anatoly calls him moody. Oliver wants to keep the kids away from the Bratva. It was a dark time for me. Anatoly says you're ashamed. You've truly done some terrible things. But also some good things. It's important for the children to see both. It's about what they need to hear. Your children are not weak, Oliver. They're also not children. They can handle it. If they do not, they will never learn to be heroes.
Laurel comes to Mia. The bar smells like cabbage. LOL. Mia says you're the Black Canary. All I've heard are stories about how great you are. I couldn't save Zoe. Every time I try and live up to my dad or prove I can do what you all do, I fail. Laurel says do you think your father is any better? We're just as flawed as anyone. Especially me. Live up to yourself. Are you really the person that gives up?
Kids aren't leaving. Oliver says good. I need your help. The drive will be sold at Bloodbath. Oliver and Mia will fight in the ring. Anatoly and Laurel will steal the drive. William wears a suit and plays rich guy. Suit up.
William brings in Oliver and Mia in hoods. My guys will fight 6. Then you fight next.
Anatoly says now is good time to strike.
Oliver tells Mia to trust her instincts. He does. They enter the cage. They drop the hoods. Crowd excited. They attack the fighters.
Bratva says if those two survive, we'll kill them.
Laurel will deal with the muscle. You watch my back.
Oliver snaps an arm. Mia struggling. Oliver sees a knife passed into the ring. William urges Laurel and Anatoly to get the plans. Anatoly shoots a Bratva to save Laurel.
Oliver and Mia win. Then flash powder. William leaves during the distraction. He could get used to this.
Anatoly pours shots for the team. Oliver heard from John. Oliver proposes a toast to Mia and William. Prochnost. Means strength. Means a lot more than that. Oliver asks for time with the kids. Tells them I did things here I'm not proud of. Shielding you from the bad isn't going to do our relationship any good. Anything you want to ask me if fair game. Mia asks about the island. Lian Yu. It's Mandarin for Purgatory.
Roy in the bunker. He's going to stick around. John's pleased. Roy says Oliver gave me a purpose, but gave me all of you. I kinda miss this place. Welcome back, Roy.
Mia wants a photo of Oliver's haircut. Anatoly says we have matching Bratva tattoos. Oliver says used to. Anatoly says we're brothers. I can be the fun uncle. Fatherhood suits you. They hug. He stops Laurel. Sorry to doubt you. Leopard can really change spots. Or bird, feather.
Did you bring the plans? Laurel is not joining Lyla and The Monitor. She won't be the person she used to be. Tell your family the truth. Lyla says not yet. Then this is going to be awkward. John and Oliver come in. They get darted in the necks. Lyla says she's sorry. John gasps Lyla, what have you done?
