CRACKING THE CASE — In order to deal with their recent trauma, Emma (guest star Karen David) suggests the students participate in a group simulation that transports them to a film noir world. Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), Josie (Kaylee Bryant), Lizzie (Jenny Boyd), MG (Quincy Fouse), and Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) quickly learn they must confront their conflicts head-on or risk facing the game’s catastrophic consequences. Girl walking in the woods. To someone in a sleeping bag? Josie wakes the Heretic girl. I've been thinking about you. Can't stop thinking about you. She feels the same. They kiss. Smile, kiss longer. It's past curfew and Dad's going to be so pissed. Josie wakes from a dream. Lizzy says you were having a sex dream. Josie says she wasn't. go back to sleep. Josie's feet are dirty from the woods!
Morning. Emma talking to the kids. Raf has a wound on his side. Some repress traumas. Some push people away to self-isolate. Hope wants to leave. Landon's outside trying to fly and could use a spotter. Emma is conducting a group lesson today. Lizzy wants everyone's support. MG agrees to. Emma's going to do a simulation. It'll be fun. A device created by the real Prof. Vardemus. Out here, you're unconscious. Reach the end of the story and receive the escape word. Any questions? Jade also had weird dreams. Emma will be self aware in the sim and keep an eye on them. Lizzy wants everyone to think of sunny tropical beaches.
Noir detective story. MG is looking for his partner. Landon's. A place where the lost things go. Karen David singing again! Yay. Lizzy and Josie sitting at a table. Emma finishes her song. I'll be here all night if anyone needs my help. MG at the bar. Hope the bartender. MG looking for his boss, the best PI in the city. Her liquor license is expired. She says ask the dame who sings.
MG comes looking for Miss T. She's down and Vardemus - Sherlock Holmes - has a necklace.
Emma wakes up in the real world. How is this possible?
MG arrives at the office. His partner is an alcoholic. But the man keeps saying he's Sherlock Homes and his partner is Watson. But he remembers the case he was on. Looking for a rare and precious gemstone. On the neck of a lounge singer. A dead singer. She died of poison in the glass. Find who poisoned the bottle and you'll have found the killer. MG says you're the brains. I'm the sidekick. He gives Vardemus The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes to read, then leaves.
MG visits Hope at the bar. Offers money and asks for the good whiskey. She keeps it in the back. He goes to her book and looks through it. Leaves.
Lizzie is an actress. Scene cuts. She'll be in her trailer. She thinks this horror flick is trash. I get murdered by a merman. Raf has a camera outside. Josie won't let the photos see the light of day. MG asks to ask a few questions. Someone's trying to kill you. She passes out.
Gives her water. Poisoned champagne was sent to her table last night. She doesn't know who would care to kill her. Please, as messed up as my life is, I don't want to die. He promises she won't. And he doesn't think she's washed up. Josie finds her. She found out who the photographer works for.
Vardemus reading. Liquet. The end of his game. I'm Rupert Vardemus. A Professor. Is that you, Milton? You! The person at the door shoots.
Someone's locked in a locker. Emma lets them out. Vardemus! How? The imposter (Clark) locked him in. I was murdered by one of your students. Emma wants to end the sim. He says it'll do more harm than good. Someone in the game is on the verge of a psychological break. End this early and they''re all at risk.
MG returns to the office to find the dead Vardemus. He wrote Josie on the book.

Salvatore Hotel. Josie meets with Jade. Reporter. She accuses Josie of setting up Lizzie's murder to get her back in the spotlight. A waiter at the club says Josie ordered the bottle of champagne. I didn't use enough poison to kill anyone and I don't know how the singer got the bottle. Josie asks her for one last drink with her for old time's sake. Jade says too late. Jade collapses. MG says we don't have to check her for a pulse.
Emma and Vardemus talk to Jade. Someone's rewriting the rules from inside the game itself. Someone who needs everyone out of the way to get what they want. We should be asking why they did it.
Hope serves Raf a drink. He's doing shots. Wishes he could've done more. Hope tells him to develop that film. Raf talks to Landon. He's good. he still misses you. Hope says he's the one who left. You develop those photos.
MG trying to get Josie to confess. He's not a hero. Just trying to figure out who poisoned his partner. She signs a confession and says take me down to the station. He says my partner was shot! Why are you trying to make the pieces fit? She says if it wasn't me, it had to be Lizzie. You have to see that. Then MG is shot! And then Josie. The gun is put in her hand then.
**I'm guessing based on Josie's dream that her dark side is doing the killing. She has a split inside. Or......that darkness has affected Lizzie. Or.......it's Raf after his kidnapping.
Lizzie drinking gin. Always thought you were a hell of an actress. MG! Drop the act. Why'd you do it? Murder all those people. Start with your sister. Josie's dead? MG had a flask in his pocket. Those crocodile tears won't stop me from bringing you in. She says she's crying because she wasn't there to save her sister. She reads her escape word. Yank me out. Why isn't it working? We need to find you your escape word. She tries to appeal to MG. Slap those puppies on me and maybe you'll get over your block. Or we run away together. Find a beach. Is this a serious offer? Hell no. He cuffs her. Then gets the exit word. Why are they still trapped here? There's something wrong with the game. MG is shot. Lizzie, run, find Hope.
MG tells Emma that Lizzie's stuck in the game and Josie died. I saw it. Why is she still in there?
**Yep, it's Josie's dark side. But what's her goal? The last time we saw her, she used her dark magic to help people. Vardemus doesn't know about her trip to the dark side, so he'd just say Josie.
Lizzie tries to get Hope to let her in the bar. Hope intends to take a bus to go to Landon. Rejects Lizzie.
Raf develops the film. Peers at a photo. Reads his escape word.
Raf back in the real world. Emma asks if he had a breakthrough. He doesn't know.
Lizzie running. Gemini Provisions. Dark Josie appears. Hello, sister. Don't look so shocked. One of us was always going to become a killer. The merge. Josie removed everyone so it'd be you and me. I had to kill Josie so she could survive. I'm her, too, of course. The parts she keeps buried inside, mixed with a little dark magic. I'm stronger than you can ever be. Lizzie says you always have been. Are you going to kill me now? Josie aims a gun. Lizzie says you win. I'm done with this stupid simulation. Josie pulls the trigger and Lizzie's mind stays here. Her body will sit waiting for the Merge. Lizzie tells her she loves her. Josie says there's no fighting fate. Then Hope arrives. Struggles with Dark Josie for the gun. Josie gets shot. Hope couldn't get on the bus if an innocent person had to die. Hope gets her word.
Hope wakes up. Lizzie wakes up. Emma's grateful. Hope and Lizzie hug. But what do they do about Jo? She's still unconscious.
**Josie will somehow have to make peace with Dark Josie. Or..........stay locked in the game.
MG and Lizzie. He's researching. Josie's alter ego sounds straight out of a comic book. Lizzie worries Josie won't wake up. He says if she doesn't, we'll figure out how to go get her. Lizzie wishes she could apologize to Josie for not seeing it. She is sorry for using him. It's not okay. MG doesn't want her to stop running to him when things are bad. He learned he can't crack the case unless he believes in himself. He has to step up. Like a superhero. She says how about The Comforter?
Ric and Emma. He thanks her for her help. She and Dorian need to go have their chance. Ric didn't think this was goodbye. She died in the game even though she was supposed to be in charge of it. The school is the most amazing place I've ever been and the most dangerous. Dorian almost died. There will always be another monster. I hate feeling like we're abandoning you. He says the point of the game is to get out, so I guess you won. They hug. She says bye.
Raf looks at the would on his side. Sees the Necromancer in the photos!! Hope comes over. He isn't sure what the photos mean. She bought the bus ticket but didn't use it. Raf asks if she's okay. She says apparently not. I thought I was crystal clear on my damage. He says knowing doesn't make it easier. She wonders if the game was showing her something will always come between her and Landon. Raf says choose Landon. Hope says I didn't get to leave until I chose someone over Landon. Are we doomed? Why does it feel so true?
Josie in bed. Sits up. In a cell. Why am I locked up? Ric says you've been through a lot. How are you feeling? Josie says better. Lizzie feels the black magic. This isn't you, Jo. Josie's eyes go black. It is now. Get used to it. This look is here to stay. Hope wants to put her back to sleep and Josie puts Hope out. Every super squad needs a super villain. Josie makes the lights flash. Stop trying to help me, Dad. I've never been better. She lifts the floor and herself out of the dungeon. Bursts through the school in flames!!
Next ep - Josie missing. Until their birthday.
