"Holding the Wrench"
REALITY - Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) encourages Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) to reach out for help after noticing her reaching a breaking point. Meanwhile, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) finds himself in a dangerous situation. Lastly, Kyle (Erik Valdez) encourages Sarah (Inde Navarette) to audition for the musical revue at school. Alex Garfin, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Dylan Walsh, and Wole Parks also star. (#108). The episode was directed by Norma Bailey and written by Kristi Korzec. Original airdate 6/1/2021.
Episode 8:
Lois waiting nervously. Thanks for seeing me on short notice. It's been a while. The woman is married to her dad's friend from service. Lois says we've had major life changes. Today I got bindsided and felt everything was slipping through my fingers. I lost my temper and I'm worried if I can't pull it together, I risk hurting someone I love more than I already have.
Lois and her boys outside the house. Clark pulling dents out of the truck. John wants to be excused since he has no powers to do repairs. Lois says the boys need to share if they're having anxieties. DOD calls for Clark. He leaves. John offers to help Lois in the barn to examine Irons' RV.
The AI knows Lois's voice. She asks about John Henry Irons. And an interface is revealed.
Lana making a list of small businesses in need. Edge has all the leadership names he needs, so she's on this now. Kyle wants on the leadership. Sarah asked to try out for a musical review. Tonight. Kyle has the day off. You and me practice together. It would be fun!
School. Open audition sign-up sheet. Jordan tells Sarah to go for it. She says she gets bad stage fright. Jordan used to play piano when he was little. If you try out, let me know, and I'll come cheer you on. He's returning the uniforms to coach. The Kents are off football for a while.
Irons remembering Natalie again. He's shown to an interrogation room to talk to Superman. Have a seat, John. Ranger. 2 tours in Afghanistan. Then mechanical engineer. But this Earth's Irons died 6 years ago from mysterious circumstances. How did you get here?
Kal-El was attacking Iron's Captain Luthor ship when he was trying to leave.
Irons calls him a traitor. You'll join the Kryptonians. I'm not saying another word until I see Lois Lane.
Johnathan learns about the multiverse. He finds the photos of Lois and Irons.
Irons tells Superman that Lois was the love of my life, my wife, the mother of my daughter, until you murdered her, and I won't let you do it again. Superman is horrified, but the vendetta is understandable now.
Lois and John see the Irons family photos.
Lois talking to the therapist. Is it possible you're too hard on yourself? No. I was enraged. You have no idea what I said. This person didn't deserve me going full Scorched Earth. Sometimes words cut so deep, and I don't know how to fix it.
Clark and Lois on the phone to confer what they've learned. Clark doesn't know if Irons is capable of accepting this Earth is different. But he thinks maybe he can get through to him. I love you, Lois. I love you, too.
John asks Lois if she's good. Yeah. Let's take a break from the RV. I'll let you know when I want to go back in.
Kyle brings Sarah the guitar. She says she can't. He says you've sung in choir for years. She says exactly. Safety in numbers. When she's by herself, there's a weight on my chest. He says the fear is short pain. Regret lasts a lot longer. She wants to do it. So he starts playing.
General Lane wants to torture Irons if I can't get him to talk first. Trask will grab his things. That's a huge tall dude.
John looking at Natalie's photos. Sorry I didn't get to meet you, sis. You seem really cool. He calls up the video of Lois the night she's murdered. He shuts it off. Then looks in the cabinets...and finds guns. An alarm goes off and the AI needs voice identification. Count down from 20 because it doesn't know him. It sealed all the windows to lock him into the trap.
Lois finds it outside. Calls Clark to help. Superman rips in and shields Johnathan from the weapons, then gets him out of the RV. Lois asks if he's okay?
The chews him out for going in by himself. What were you really doing in there?! John wanted to find weapons. You and Jordan ARE weapons. I'm the only one in this house completely unarmed. I was one second from dead! You almost didn't make it on time. Lois scolds him. I let you come with me because I trusted you! You almost died because you were reckless and stupid! If you had died, you only would've had to blame yourself! Get out of my face! He does. Clark tries to get her to talk. She's not fine. She says she is. He says it's okay to ask for help. I want to be that person always, but I understand if I'm not right now. What about that woman you used to talk to?
Kyle recorded Sarah signing. And finds out he "turned down" Edge's offer. He goes to Lana and says they need to talk it's important. He asks if she lied. Leslie Larr says Edge wanted me for that position. Lana tells him Edge doesn't think you're leadership material. But he respects you, which is probably why he didn't say anything to her.
General Lane taking a crack at Irons. Threatens him with drugging him. Tell me something I want to know. Irons says you died like a hero trying to save the world. Until Superman murdered you. He will choose his kind over mankind, then what choice will we have?
Lois asked who she lashed out at. My son Johnathan. It's a miracle he's alive. So it scared you. Lois says you have no idea. They get old enough and your heart is out there and anything can happen to it and there's nothing you can do. You felt helpless. Like Lois did when she had a miscarriage. She had a name picked. Lois's grandmother - Natalie.
Trask wants 10 minutes alone with Irons. Rosetti attacks Trask! Your problems are over. But Irons - your problems are just getting started. His eyes glow like a Kryptonian's.
**Did Edge seed one of his experiments in the DoD?But last week, he said Leslie was the only stable candidate. So.....is this an actual Kryptonian? Like Kara and Zod and such? It'd be nice to know if this is still Earth Prime.
Lois says she copes better with more on her plate. Helps me focus. Therapist wonders if she needed more time to process grief. Lois can't lose another child because of me! Is this the part where you tell me the miscarriage wasn't my fault? The majority are caused by a genetic issue. You have to learn to accept the things you can't control and let them go. Your miscarriage was something that happened TO you. You have to let yourself go through the grieving process - because if you don't.... Lois sees that.
Kid singing at tryouts. Jordan and John at the back. John needs to talk to Jordan. What happened? I don't know where to begin. Jordan says no matter what, we're in this together, okay? He has flowers for Sarah. Awww. Sarah asks if they've seen her dad. She can't do the performance without him. I can't sing alone. Jordan offers to do it. Sarah's next. Okay, okay. Um, coming! They take the stage. Jordan tries playing the chords of the music. She starts singing. Nice sweet young voice. She starts smiling, relaxing. John's into it.
Rosetti takes Irons through a corridor. But Rosetti's vibrating. Irons hits an alarm button.
Sector 5. Trask is dead. Lane says get me eyes on Rosetti. Superman can't go. Sector 5 is the Kryptonite weapons prototype zone. Lane says you go down there, there's a chance you don't come back alive.
**So Rosetti IS one of the X experiments that's unstable. Scary that Edge got to a DoD classified person.
**Thank you, show, for tackling Lois's parental moment and past miscarriage in a real and adult way. No decent parent wants to have a moment of losing control on their child and saying words they can't take back, but it's likely to happen at least once in the teen years. And then her grief, that so many women share.
Superman is blind in Sector 5. Lane says it's 7734. Rosetti puts a mask on. Blasts Superman with Kryptonite smoke.
Lois sees soldier chaos. Facility on lockdown.
Superman gets Irons a chance to run. Then Rosetti attacks him with more Kryptonite mist.
Lois reaches her dad. What's going on?
Rosetti vibrating again. Superman attacks him with the green smoke. Then they slug it out. Superman head buts him. But they're both weak and coughing. Rosetti says you're lucky I have a mission to complete. He turns and Irons stabs him with a Kryptonite spear. It was his favorite. Superman says I'm not your enemy. Lane and Lois burst in. I know about Natalie! I know what happened to you and your family. I see the anger in your eyes. You wonder if you failed, if there was something you could've done, but there wasn't. There's nothing you could've done. Our worlds are different. Our Superman is good. He'd never turn on us. How do you know? I know. If you kill him, an innocent man, what does that make you? Irons drops the spear.
Lane and Superman. He's breathing better. The gas was designed to make him vulnerable. Lane says this was never meant to be deployed. Clark says save me the trouble of lying to my face. Sam says it's his job to prepare for the worst. Clark tells Lane that Rosetti maybe wasn't himself anymore. Edge transferring alien sentients into human hosts. It's possible Morgan Edge is building an army.
Kyle apologizes to Sarah. I got bad news about a job opportunity and needed to blow off some steam. Next thing I know, I missed your audition and - she says Don't. Don't promise me anything. I can't keep getting my hopes up and then being disappointed. I can't.
Irons back at the RV. Johnathan wonders if Mom's judgment can be trusted. Lois says I deserve that. She tells John she lost the baby when the boys were toddlers. We were going to name her Natalie. All this time, I thought I was okay. I said things I never should've and didn't mean. It's not an excuse, but I hope you can forgive me. They're both crying. She understands being only human. I know the fear of being vulnerable. But right now, I want you to know we're on the same team. We have to stick together. They hug.
Superman lands next to the RV. Recovered? More or less. Irons free to drive out? Yes. There's a war coming. We need all the help we can get. This is a show of trust. Irons isn't there, yet. Superman says you change your mind, you know where to find me. Lois comes out. Superman leaves them. Irons tells her Godspeed and tells AI to erase the Captain Luthor profile and make one for himself. Tells her to shut down. He wishes to just drive for a while.
Next ep - Lois struggling with John. And Edge is escalating.
