Milwaukee, 6 days ago. A home for children. Here's a little something for the bus. Jade kicked out because she's not a kid anymore. CPS left her a lozenge box for her birthday. Is this about my brother? No idea. Thank you very much. Don't try so hard to be perfect. You don't have to be for people to like you, and it's a little annoying. Jade leaves the porch and sits on the steps. Inside the vintage box is a toy car with Todd written on it and Dad's ring. She holds it up and the wind increases. Then her eyes flash green. Then it floats glowing green. She touches it and it flies around. Then lands on her finger. And rugs her forward.
Present day. Courtney's kitchen. The staff is struggling. Go to your crate! Jade apologizes to the parents for the damage. I had no intention of fighting anyone here. Jade says the lantern belonged to her father Alan Scott. Pat says he's the Green Lantern. She says his ring led me here. I'm Jenny. Who are you? Pat Dugan. You're Stripesy, the legend! It's an honor to meet you. She asks Pat to please show her how to use the ring. The dog comes over and loves on her.
Barbara offers Jenny a bed in Courtney's room. She looks around. tests the bed. Looks at the one photo of her and her brother. Her eyes light up. So does the lantern in the kitchen.
Courtney stuck with the snoring dog. On the sofa. Pat brings her another pillow. She asks Pat how he knows she's really Green Lantern's daughter. He says the JSA members had kids, and that ring only worked for Alan. Courtney thinks she might be a spy for a villain. Pat says you're looking for villains everywhere, but this life is about helping people, not the bad guys. That's why I'm giving this kid a chance. The dog comes back and lays on her.
Morning. She wakes to voices. Jenny made breakfast. They love the pancakes. She cooked for everyone in the group home. Pancake Sundays. Fixed the table. After breakfast, Pat will take Jenny to the garage to get the lantern working.
Courtney has summer school. She sits in the back. Yolanda sits next to her. Her parents enrolled her this morning to keep her out of trouble despite her straight As. Mr. Dysinger. Isaac Bowen. Two other boys. Yolanda asks about Green Lantern girl. Rick Harris isn't there. Bueller.......Bueller.....
Rick's bringing food to the woods again. The chicken buckets are empty by the creek. He sets down pizza boxes. Picks up the trash. Phone buzzes. Where are you? There's a new superhero in town. He goes back to the yellow Mustang, but there's a noise before he gets there. Nothing to see. But it's watching him.
Flame thrower on the robot. It's great, Zeke. Who thinks the flame is a bit weak. See you tomorrow, Mr. Dugan. Pat asks Jenny where she got the ring. She says it was left for me by my dad. It started glowing. Pat says Alan had to recharge the ring each day with the lantern, so he's surprised it worked for her after all this time. Places it on the lantern and there's a blast of green. Pat says it reacted to Alan's emotions, so maybe you're making the lantern anxious. She asks what it does? It can create anything. Picture something in your head and try. Take your time. No rush. Imagine an object. Whatever comes into your mind. She tries again. The ring is trying. She thought of the car. You did it!
Courtney complaining to Yolanda about Jenny. She's suddenly best friends with Pat. Yolanda says the pancakes are really good. Courtney tries one and agrees with a pout.
Cindy's house. Her stepmom is cleaning up the broken glass. A voice says you'll never escape her.
Black car on the road. through the woods. Whoa, Rolls Royce? Blue Valley in 2 miles. It stops in town and a gentleman with a cane gets out. That car is cherry, so it's worth a fortune. He puts on a top hat and heads toward the clock tower.
Knocks at Barbara's office. Richard Swift. He deals in things old and curious as a collector and one of my many passions is stage magic. He wants Zarek's collection. The councilman? She asks if he knew Mr. Zarek. Only by reputation. He's pay a ridiculously high sum if the American Dream wants to sell it. She says there's no contact info on his business card. It's strange. He says I'll contact you. He asks where he can find a cup of tea. She suggests Reggie's.
The garage. The kids arrive to see the green car. Jenny says hi, Courtney. And you are Yolanda? Rick and Beth told me all about you. So inspiring. I'm Jenny. Yolanda is fine. They shake hands. Courtney asks why they told Jenny about the team. She asks Jenny if she's here for the team. Jenny says she broke in because she didn't know who stole her father's lantern. Jenny runs out. The others go after her.
Stepmom hearing the voice again. You almost had your old life back. You want to get back to where you were before the abduction. If you want it all back... Kill your stepdaughter. Kill Cindy Burman.
Pat tells Courtney she needs to apologize. You see the good in other people. Why can't you see it in Jenny? Courtney says how do I not see it? She's perfect, and a superhero's daughter. For real. I feel like such a fraud around her. Pat says no, she's everything you were. She's trying to learn about a father she never really knew. Remember how that felt? Pretty lonely. Yeah. Pretty lonely. Phone rings. Hey, Barb, what's up? Pat will check it out. Talk to Jenny. I'll be back.
She joins the other kids and apologizes to Jenny. Who thinks she should go. Courtney says it's not your problem. It's mine. It messed me up when I learned I'm not Starman's daughter. Your powers are like nothing we've seen before. You're the real deal, Jenny. You've got everything. Jenny says stop saying that! I have nothing. Her eyes are glowing. All I wanted was to find my brother! I thought this ring would lead me to him. To this stupid lantern! She knocks it across the floor and it's glowing. Spreading. Rick says Jenny, what did you just do?!
Pat at the diner. Waitress says all we have is Orange Pekoe. Mr. Swift is not impressed. Pat introduces himself. Richard Swift, antiques. Pat says my love is vintage cars. He noticed the 65 Jaguar. It's a 67. The kids run past. Pat makes an excuse to leave.
The kids run to the park. The lantern seems like it's going to explode. Pat catches up. Jenny says it's all my fault! Pat says remember emotions. Jenny IS the lantern. You're charging it! You can absorb the energy before it explodes. She picks it up. Leave. If this doesn't work...... Go! Courtney isn't leaving. You can do this. Jenny concentrates on the Lantern and the green is receding. Then there's a big blast! It blows the JSA feet away. And leaves a big crater! The green lights coalesce above and Jenny's floating. Laughing. I guess I can fly now!
Maybe not keep glowing in public?
The bulldog is snoring away again. Drives Courtney from the couch. Barbara says Jenny was gone when I woke up.
Pat looks at an old file in the basement. The same watch he saw on Swift. Courtney comes down. I'm done with digging in old files. Jenny made me realize what's really important. I should've treated you more like Jenny did when we first moved here. IF a villain comes up, then it'll be Stargirl. Pat says funny you should mention that. There this villian from the old days called The Shade, bad news, and he's the last IS member unaccounted for. And he's in Blue Valley. She squeals she'll get her staff.
Cindy returns to the house. Mom! I'm hungry again. She attacks Cindy with knives. Don't. Please. The black diamond takes over Cindy. Her face is purple. She holds up the stone. It draws her stepmother into it! Delicious. Cindy fights back. Eclipso says your stepmother was trying to kill you. I had to protect you. What did you do to her? He fed off her corrupt soul. Cindy says I'm in control. Me! My body is mine! Do that again and I put you back in the box, got it? He apologizes. I'm only here to serve. Stepmom is only a blackened spot on the floor now.
