“We All Knew This Day Was Coming”
THE TIME IS NOW – Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) realizes she has a difficult choice to make, much to Alaric’s (Matthew Davis) disapproval. Kaleb (Chris Lee) and MG (Quincy Fouse) come up with their own plan to help Hope as she seeks help from Josie (Kalyee Bryant) and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd). Meanwhile, Alaric realizes he needs to relinquish control. Aria Shahghasemi, Ben Levin, and Leo Howard also star. The episode was written by Courtney Grace & J.P. Episode 3:
Ethan at a football field. His arm works again. Taunting the old teammate about losses. Brings him to "Landon". Malivore transforms people. At the old train yard. Just show me what juice you got. Mal has been obsessed with consuming everything I could. Ethan takes hold of the teen. Malivore forces goo into the kid.
Super Squad at work. Hope goes to the office. No sign of missing students on dispatch. No luck with locator spells. Ric says they do nothing until the wolves get a scent. Hope is not happy with him or Kaleb. Dorian leaving. But says Hope's right. You should've told her. Kaleb says don't act like you're the only one that cares.
Cleo wandering the darkness. In here we're as blind as.....bats. Landon Kirby, I may have to kiss you one of these days. She conjures light and sends it out. There's something out there.
MG listening. Lizzie feels terrible for Hope. Dad lied to her again. MG says you have to prioritize the greater good. Lizzie feels guilty for being on the date with Ethan. MG says Ethan wanted to be supernatural. And I left him defenseless. She says you chose the greater good. Police transmission. Suspicious person.
Josie goes to Finch and Finch is still cold. Josie tells her to take her time with the Merge news. Finch needs to know that Josie will try to win. It's awful to say, but I can't stay if you've decided you're already not going to fight. MG comes and says they have Squad business.
Hope finds a monster. Pulls a sword after dousing fire doesn't work. It melts her sword. She magics it back from her. Tell me where Malivore is. He's right in front of you. Do you like my new foot soldier? I made him especially for you. Hope says you bought yourself about 3 minutes of distraction time. Malivore says this is a warning for what this will cost you. Hope says next time, don't make a monster with such a loud heartbeat. She impales it. It falls. Squad arrives. And it's a human body on the ground.
Hope in shock. Guilty. Ric says there's no way you could've known. Let's go home. There's nothing else we can do. She says I have to become the Tribrid before someone else gets hurt.
Ric chasing after Hope. There's always another way. She says we all knew this was coming. The longer Malivore is out there, the more people he'll hurt. Eventually we'll run out of chains and cages and sleeping potions. He tells her to calm down. She says don't talk to me like a child. I just killed someone. He thinks she's not ready. Hope says you don't trust me. He says it's more power than anyone's ever had. And no matter how strong you are, you're still your father's daughter. Hope tells him to get out. Ric says ask yourself if you're ready to give up on Landon and Cleo. If you destroy Malivore, that's exactly what you're doing.
Dad, how could you say that to her? Ric orders the kids to the office. They need to research.
Kaleb isn't with Hope's plan. It's time to pick a side. MG thinks he knows how to stop Hope.
Josie and Lizzie go to Hope. We made a promise. We're here for you. What do you need? Hope needs to see Rafael.
She finds him on the dock preparing to fish. They hug.
**Why couldn't they air these episodes as the end of season 3 as intended? Never heard that they weren't finished.
Rafael uses Excalibur as a utility knife. She says Blake didn't deserve what happened to him. Raf says she should've seen the catch he had yesterday. It was so big. Everything tastes better here. Maybe it's the air. We should call it Mirror World. He learned to put the best on things from Landon. Rafael will understand whatever she chooses. Landon will, too. He learned sacrifice from you. He's my brother. But out of all of us, he has the best chance at finding Peace, and after the life he's lived, I want that more than anything.
Josie called Dorian to return to Ric. He brought a folder with Dorian's Merge plan. Ric asks why did you make this? Because I knew if that day came, you wouldn't be thinking straight. This is one of those days we've been trying to avoid. Hope can only outrun this for so long. Whether you're ready or not, it's happening. The only question is, when the worst comes, will you let her face it alone?
MG and Kaleb in the woods. MG says there's a trolley on a track that splits two ways. It will kill people. But if you pull the lever, it only kills two people. We can save the greater amount of people. We have to make a choice. Kaleb says you made yours. now I'll make mine. MG breaks his neck. You'll understand when you wake up. Hope deserves our trust.
Cleo sees a light. A door. opens it. In a room with monsters on the floor sleeping. The ice cream shop! She carefully steps by them. To the handprint on the case. Lifts the door. Monsters wake. She hurries inside.
Hope says Lizzie and Josie will be pulling her out any second. Asks him for advice facing your last day. He tells her don't go through this by yourself. She's not sure she has much choice this time. It was really good to see you. She wakes. And they've assembled a party. Ric says this is your home, Hope, and if this is going to happen, it should happen here, with us.
Cleo wakes with a headache in the woods. Of where? Jed finds her! She needs to warn Hope.
Eating at the big table. Laughing. Wade telling a story. Hope spelled a professor to speak ancient Babylonian. Okay...it was Summarian. Dorian talks about the slime trail on Hope from the slug. Hope worries that she might lose her magic. Especially with Josie and Lizzie.
They bring her to a circle in a glen. Just repeat after us. They start chanting. Flower petals float around them. Trees bloom in pink like spring. And a sapling comes out of the ground. A new life full of promise. They hug. Ric comes over. Hope thinks she's ready.
**Hope was 15 in the Originals finale when Klaus and Elijah died to save her.
Jed and Cleo arrive at dark.....and Cleo is still in the darkness. it was all a trick. Malivore is inspired. I impressed myself with the level of detail. Your idea on how to destroy the Tribrid? That was genius.
Kaleb found malivore. I listened for a place that seemed a little too quiet. I'm not here to fight you. I'm here to make you an offer.
Take whatever is comforting. When you wake up, your emotions will be on overdrive and you'll feel disoriented. Ric has one last thing. A drawing she made for him when she arrived. She wanted to be part of his family. He says you are. What I said earlier is wrong. It's not that you're not ready. I'm not ready. That former vampire hunter would've made the decision without hesitation. Because he's an idiot. He didn't know how you'd grow up. Who you'd become. You have everything you need. They have tears. She thanks him. He has one last confession to make. There's someone that wanted to make it here in time. FREYA! Hello, gorgeous. Hope hurries to hug her.
**At least one Mikaelson is here. You know the whole family, in reality, would gather with opinions on this. They all promised to look out for her, be there when she needs them.
Freya notices Hope is still wearing the pendant. Always. Keeping my family close. Freya says you'll be this beautiful forever. Rebekah will be so jealous. They wanted to come. There just wasn't time. Freya is a Mikaelson, so she'll take the opportunity for a dramatic entrance. Hope wants to know what it's like. Elijah described it once. There's nothing. Then you'll realize there's nothing. The light will trickle in. You'll be back in this room, but the colors will be different. You'll feel the air on your skin. It can be overwhelming. Freya says you'll handle it. I'm only here to get a milkshake from the Grill and witness the birth of the one and only Tribrid. Family bragging rights. Hope worries that she'll become more like her father and lose the only piece of Hayley she has left. Freya says you're equal parts your father and mother. She'll fight like hell to stay with you. Since you were born, people have been terrified of what you'd become. "I loved Niklaus. He was complicated and flawed and loyal and he would've let the world burn just to save the people he loved. But you, you're willing to let go of someone you love to save innocent people you'll never meet. So I think you're already better than all of us. Your mother and father would be proud."
Lizzie asks how long will it take. Ric says a few hours. Then they feed Hope blood during the transition. Lizzie suggests one of them becoming a vampire to prevent the Merge. Can we talk about it more instead of the Merge being this big unspoken thing? Ric hands her Dorian's folder.
Finch at the table. Josie finds her. How's Hope. With her aunt. Josie will not murder her sister. But you already knew that before asking. You're looking for an excuse to go. You've spent your life running. Is it easier if it's the other person's fault? Josie says you stay anyway. Hope is doing the unthinkable. It's sad and scary, but it's also kind of beautiful. I need someone who will love me no matter what I choose. I need people surrounding me willing to face evil with me and not run. I need someone to stay and fight, even if it's a lost cause. Because I'm worth that.
Freya is so proud of Hope. Sitting on the bed. Freya tells her to close her eyes. Focus your breath. Heart beating. Freya holds her. Hope's heart is slowing. and slowing. And stops. She lays Hope down. Caresses her hair.
Hope opens her eyes somewhere else. Dark marsh. Creaking sound. Who's there? The Ferryman at the dock. Gestures to the boat. Am I supposed to go there? To complete the transformation? I don't understand, what is it? Is that Peace?
MG in Hope's room. Kaleb arrives. Figure you could use some company. He tells MG I get it. No stopping Hope Mikaelson, right. I almost went too far today. Then you convinced me. Someone will get hurt, no matter what. MG promises they'll save Cleo. They hug. Kaleb's eyes go dark. Then he knocks MG out. And grows DEMON WINGS.
Lizzie comes to Hope's room and she's gone. And the MG is still out. And the window is on fire.
Next ep - Malivore making them fight on multiple fronts. We made a promise to Hope. See you on the other side. Landon's voice says I'm counting on it. Or was that Malivore in Landon?

Freya and Keelin asked Vincent to be their baby daddy and he eventually agreed. We haven't heard of a cousin for Hope, yet.
Elijah told Kol if you don't look after Hope, I'll come back and haunt you. Kol had already married Davina before.
