“To Live and Die Again”
PENULTIMATE – Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) struggles against the fallout of the debate. Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) uses Luthor’s (Michael Cudlitz) tactics against him, while Jonathan (Michael Bishop) and Jordan (Alex Garfin) prepare for an impending battle. Episode 9:
Penultimate episode of the fantastic series.
Kent Farm. The boys show Clark an article. Luthor got the scans from John's AI. Lois on the phone. 3rd advertiser quit. Jon says we can't just sit here, Dad! Lois tells the boys to leave the room. Clark freaking out over the article about his weakness. Lois says Luthor is messing with your head. It's what he does. Clark wants to use turn the tables.
Boys in the diner. Sit wherever you like. Crowd outside. They sit at the counter. Grab menus. Meals are named after them now. Jordan has curly fries on the kids menu. LOL. Jon says it's weird....makes this all feel wrong. Everyone in here is going on about their day with no idea how dangerous Luthor is. Jon wants to step up and help Dad. Waitress gives them two specials on the house.
Lois at the paper. Amanda enters. You're being sued for defamation. And this is a bill for Lex's windows. Lois has faith in the truth. Amanda says people just want a good story. She wants to be higher on the board. Lois says Lex Luthor doesn't do teamates and in the end, the truth matters. Amanda says you'll never find Cheryl or Gretchen or whatever her name was.
Lex's office. Are you questioning my judgment? Of course not. I have the agreement right here. Superman flies in. Lex tells his employee to go away. Superman says you'll never hurt another person again. He picks at Lex about Amanda. Says she is calling the shots. They bicker. Lex says I'm coming after everything you've ever loved and I will rip it all away from you just like I ripped out your beating heart. Superman says enjoy your freedom, Lex. Nice tie. He leaves. Lex rips the tie off and the suit jacket.
Lois at her board. Rips all the photos and stuff off. Clark enters. You okay? Did something happen while I was gone? She tells him about Amanda's visit. Everyone is either dead or lawyered up. We lost! Clark insists they did not. We're still here, the two of us, together. You and me, we're unstoppable. Chapter 7 of your master class, how does it start? Gets her to recite it. Crowd outside. Clark's going to work with the boys. Call me if you need me? Kisses her. Leaves. "Back to the beginning"
Clark tells the boys we gotta talk. They come over. The crowd of fans watches. We need to go to the Fortress. They fly off.
Amanda and Lex. Something wrong? He's thinking about her role in the company. Hands her an envelope. A gesture of my appreciation. The largest shareholder of Luthorcorp, after him. You earned every penny. She kisses him. You shouldn't have any issues with the board. Milton has something to show me.
How is fighting reruns going to help us. Clark going through the aspects of John Henry's suit. Focus and give it your best shot. Jordan attacks it first. Then Jon. They keep losing. Clark stops. Enough for today. I wanted to see where you're at. Go home and I'll meet you guys there.
Lois visits Bruno! Thank you for agreeing to see me. you look healthy. Lois says my treatments are all done. Everyone at your hospital was very good to me. He's happy for her. Pia would be, too. Lois is sorry for his loss. I wouldn't have gotten through chemo without her. He says that means a lot, but it's not why you're here. Lois says it's Luthor. She and Bruno bicker over the justness of letting him out. Bruno says Luthor was doing this to South Metropolis for years. People in the Suicide Slums were crying out for help long before you and Superman took notice. Lois says you're right. But right now, I'm asking for help. Bruno resists. She says Luthor won't stop at my family. He will destroy everything good you did. He's coming after my boys. You think he won't come after yours? Bruno asks what she wants him to do. Lois says you put Luthor away for 17 years with a lie. Help me defeat him with the truth.
**Bruno and Pia warned Lois. Sometimes the greater good is only accomplished through uncomfortable choices.
Milton showing the suit to Lex. Going over the upgrades. It's infused with Kryptonite. You want to kill the Man of Steel, this is how you do it. You're welcome. Milton recovered a deleted Captain Luthor file. And found Project Doomsday. I wondered where you've been.
Lois and Bruno. Is there anyone who isn't dead? Bruno says Lex doesn't leave loose ends. Doesn't matter who you are. Lois says like Cheryl Kimball. Bruno knew her. She gave contacts to Luthor. Lois tells him that she seduced my dad. Cheryl and Lex used to date. Lois says that pattern is repeating itself. Bruno says patterns always end the same. Lois thanks him. I really appreciate it. Bruno is glad Superman is back. Tell him he's still got work to do.
Fortress. Clark asks how long it'll take for the boys to become him. His mother says their limitations are genetic. No half Kryptonian can be like him. Clark is frustrated. She says when Krypton was dying, we refused to give up. But we eventually had to accept our fate. The only option was to send you away.
Jon and Jordan at home. Jon believes they can do more. Jordan says sometimes Dad is right. Jon says you think Dad can defeat the suit? Not he's not his best, how can anyone beat it?
Lois talking about Doomsday to someone. That person that monster once was cared about me. Lex watching her debriefing video. Lex tells Milton he's going back to Smallville. To visit an old friend.
**Good grief, John Henry, you shouldn't have so much data stored in one place! Every computer guy knows that. The suit should never have access to all that other DOD stuff. I know Milton broke into the AI at his home, so there's also that. But still - he and Nat needed WAY more safety built in.
Metropolis. Lois finds Amanda. You're in danger. How much do you know about Cheryl Kimball. Did you know she's the old you? Cheryl thought Lex loved her. Amanda says that was long ago. Lois says he kept Cheryl close until.....well, we know how that ended. Ask Lex for what matters and he will throw you away. Ask Luthor about Cheryl. That should tell you everything you need to know.
Amanda asks Milton where is Lex. Smallville. Why? Doomsday. Amanda says that's not part of the plan. Milton says you're not in charge here.
Lois with her board. Clark enters. things didn't go well? He says the boys aren't ready and according to my mom, they never will be. She's skeptical. He says this is about DNA. Lois tells him to figure out what the boys CAN do.
Boys playing video games. Clark enters. You're not ready, but that's not a reason to stop trying. He takes them somewhere else. Clark says being alone was all he ever knew. But you two have always had each other. That's your strength. You can be better than I ever was alone. Work as a team, and land a punch, if you can. They grin. It's on, Pop. Then charge.
Lois grabs her jacket. Saw Lex at the hotel. She says Clark told you to never come back here. Lex says I'm only here for one last thing. This will all be over soon enough. She asks what that's supposed to mean? He says goodbye, Lois.
Smallville. Amanda finds Lex. She's mad. You cannot control that thing. He says it doesn't matter. Then why are you here? He says he gave the town a chance and they chose him and Lois. I offered them millions and they spit in my face. They have to pay for what they did. She says do you realize how crazy that sounds? This was never part of the plan. He yells I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT! I AM IN CONTROL! NOT YOU! Amanda brings up Cheryl. Asks was anything between us real? Lex's phone buzzes. Is it ready? Send it. Lex says we're done here. The suit lands behind him. He steps into it. Amanda says please, I know how this ends. He says if that were true, you wouldn't be here.
Lex goes to the mind. Doomsday inside it. Hello, old friend. Seems you've lost your way. You and I are the same. Pain gave us purpose. Made us strong. you understood that before. That woman confused you. I can fix that. Set you back on your path. Are you ready to die for me one more time?
Clark against the boys. You're trying to hit me, right? He's been beating them over and over. Then they hear roaring at the mines. Clark tells them to go to town. Find their mom.
Amanda tells Lois that Luthor's out of control. The monster is at the mines. Lex will destroy this town.
Lex fires at Doomsday. Superman reaches the mine. What have you done? Finishing what I started. There's an explosion.
*Nice that the boys and Clark could have some fun.
Doomsday busts out.
Lois in town. Boys tell them that thing is back. Doomsday arrives in town. COMIC ACCURATE. What happened to it? Lois tries talking to Doomsday and he blasts fire. The boys move her out of the way. Dad's coming. Lois tells the boys to get everyone to safety. Superman flies into Doomsday and they crash into a building. Jordan in the diner tells people to escape out back. Waitress is panicking behind the counter. Jordan grabs a mug and chills it. When I have panic attacks, it helps to hold something cold. Guides her to breathe. Better? Close your eyes. Superman is tossed through and outside. Jon stops a car from hitting Denise. Get to safety. Doomsday and Superman in the sky. Lex in the suit is watching. I want to see Superman die with my own eyes.
Lois watching. Superman crashes on the ground. Clark? Dad, please. He says Lo love all of you. I always will-- Doomsday grabs him.
Next ep - Lex goes after Lois. Superman and Lex will battle it out.
