THE WINCHESTERS MEET THE STYNES — Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) investigate a bizarre murder and realize the killer bears the same tattoo as those from the Styne family. Eldon Styne (guest star David Hoflin) attacks Dean and a brutal fight ensues. Meanwhile, Castiel (Misha Collins) acts as referee when Charlie (guest star Felicia Day) and Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) are forced to work together on the Book of the Damned. Crowley (Mark Sheppard) discovers his mother is missing and knows she’s up to something so he turns to an old enemy for help. Episode 21:
Omaha Nebraska. A woman comes in for an interview. She's in good health. This is a research study on eyesight. Doc says everything seems in order. Lets take a look. Uh oh, he has the tattoo. He tries to kiss her. She struggles. He slits her throat. Janitor heard the scream outside. The doc takes her eyeball. Janitor beats on the door. Opens it and sees the man jump out the window. The poor girl has no eyeballs.
Sam is upset. Rowena has nothing. She says these things cannot be rushed. He says no witchcraft! I need the cure from the book and if you're stalling... She says why would I stall? I want this for my own protection! She says the language in the Codex is nearly indecipherable. So we have to break a code to break a code? Yes. He says Dean gets worse every day. Get This Done. She says you won't forget the grocery shopping, will you? No.
Louisiana. The man is chewed out. We don't have witnesses! Or leave bodies behind. The key to our success is secrecy! He says I haven't been myself since Jacob died. Father says don't you cheapen the memory of your brother with your failure. You will be cast down to the lowest point of our family. Here's how you'll redeem yourself - clean up your mess, then track down these Winchesters. Man says it will be done. Eli, the nephew, asks if it's best to put this in Elton's hands. Uncle says was this task, to find the redhead, not passed to you? He's still looking for her. Back your cousin if you're so concerned. Now get out.
Dean on the computer. Sam comes home. You look like crap on toast. Sam says I'm not sleeping well. Dean asks if there's a woman? What? Sam says I don't do the exact same thing at the exact time all the time. Dean was researching the Steins. Trail goes dead back to the 1800s. But I caught a case. Omaha. Victim's eyes were cut out. Perp jumped out the 3rd story window. Dean says we'll leave first thing in the morning.
Sam meets with Charlie. Hug. Why are we meeting here? He says this is better. We're not working in the bunker. She asks what's this about? He says Dean's not getting any better. I got hold of a Codex and it should help crack the Book of the Damned. I, um, I swapped it out. Okay, so is Dean pissed? Oh, he doesn't know. Geeze, the two of you! Sam says Dean has given up. I called in an expert and I thought you could move things along faster. She says is there any part of this that doesn't reek? He says this is our only shot at saving him. If we don't take it, he's gone.
Rowena says I requested time, not an assistant. Sam says you're Charlie's assistant. Are you done making your turf? Cas arrives. Rowena asks what are you? Angel. Beg pardon? He's the referee. Cas asks what are the rules? Rowena says the first rule is don't tell your brother what we're doing. Cas says this doesn't end well. Sam says lying to Dean is the choice that sucks the least. Charlie says okay, for Dean. Cas agrees. No one's happy about it.
Crowley throwing darts into a guy. Demon says there's a problem. It's your Majesty's mother. She's missing. Crowley kills the messenger. Don't come back without news of my mother.
Sam and Dean on the eyeball case. Visit the office. The man ran after falling 3 stories. They look at security footage. He lands. Sam says freeze it. Zoom in. The tattoo. How long was he renting here? A month. Some clinical trial using student volunteers. Sam gets a call. He shuts it off. Telemarketer. They leave. Manager is confronted. What'd you tell those two? He kills the manager.
Charlie at work on the book. Rowena reading bones. Charlie's not having much luck, yet. Cas comes back with snacks. Pork rinds. Charlie asks about Agnes. Rowena says she made it her business to lift curses. They burned her alive. The Church would not abide a rogue nun. Charlie says poor Agnes, ahead of her time. Rowena says much like you and I. Charlie says I don't see the similarity. Rowena says you had a difficult and lonely childhood, living on the outside, sexually progressive, living in your own head most of the time. I read you seconds after you walked in the door. We part company when it comes to blind devotion. The Winchesters you've taken as family. That steadfast loyalty will be your undoing, dear girl.
Sam and Dean in the car. Dean's glad the Book is burned. Sam asks how you're doing? Dean says same ol', same ol'. Happy to have a murder to focus on. They're being followed.
Cas calls Dean, No, Sam's phone. What's up? Nothing. Just staying in touch. Something on your mind? No. This call is pointless. My ride is here. Sam says the fridge is picked clean. Dean asks Sam if he's talked to Cas recently. Sam lies. Votes for pizza.
Crowley talking to the witch-rodent about Rowena. What's the dirt? Hamster says there was a demon lover. Anything else? Really. You sure? He takes notes. I need a minion! Gives the paper to a demon. Find this person immediately. On it, Your Majesty.
Dean got the pizza. SUV stops in the alley. And another car comes up behind him. Dean says hold it. Draws his gun. He's hit from behind. Kills one guy. The Stein grabs him by the throat. Dean gets him instead.
Charlie rants about Rowena. She's evil. Something bad is going to happen here. She asks for one quiet hour. Please.
Stein chained up in the bunker. Dean says you're going to give me answers, or this will get crazy real quick. Did you kill that girl in Omaha? Yeah. You have the Mark of Cain. My sympathies. Sam says we wanted the Book because that's where your power comes from. Our family business is putting your family out of business. Stein says our power comes from intelligence and will. Sam asks why. Stein says chaos breeds fear, panic, and desperation. And desperation is profitable. We clean up the mess and business is good. Sam gets a call from Cas.
Sam says make it quick.
Dean asks why take the girl's eyes? Stein says we normally don't leave a body when we harvest. Surgical enhancement. Every man in the family has had something done. Our name was altered out of necessity. One of Europe's oldest families. The house of Frankenstein.
Rowena and Charlie arguing. Sam says you can't take Charlie outside.
Dean says Frankenstein is made up. Mary Shelley went public. As mighty as your little family is, mine is a juggernaut. We're not ordinary men. What we are is expendable. Dean asks where does this family call home? It's a secret. Dean says I'm swell at uncovering secrets. Stein says give me the Book and we can have a conversation. Dean says the Book was burned. Stein says the Book is protected and cannot be destroyed.
Sam is confronted by Dean. What are you doing? Sam says something came up. They hear a noise. Stein is loose. He severed his own arm! Dean says oh my God, he ripped it off.
Rowena complaining. Cas says Charlie needs quiet. She's under a lot of pressure. Rowena says she'll get over betrayal. Once she has children, she'll learn all about it. Crowley is my son. Cas says that explains a lot. He leaves the room and Charlie has bailed.
Stein is outside. His phone rings. It's the cousin. I know where she is. I can take care of her if you want. He says no, I need to handle this. Where? Blackbird Motel.
Dean comes back. Blood trail ran dry. The trail stopped. Sam has been going over the Frankenstein history. Dean says I thought this is bad, but it'd really blow if they had the Book. At least the damn Book burned, right Sam? But then Stein says the Book can't be destroyed. Cannot be destroyed. Isn't that crazy? I know I saw something burn. Sam's phone buzzes.
Cas says Charlie is gone.
She's working on it in the motel. Rain coming down heavy outside. The Steins approaching. She still doesn't have a match for the code. Tries again. Match! Knocks on the door. She runs into the bathroom.
Dean yells at Sam. Charlie calls. Someone is here, Sam. They think I have the Book. I only have my notes. Sam says give it to them. Dean says give them whatever they want, understand? Charlie? She says I can't do that, Dean. Stein is in the room. She uploaded the file. Then breaks her tablet.
Dean and Sam in the car. Dean is pissed. Sam tries to justify it.
Stein says you're going to give me what's mine, mine and my family's. She has a knife.
Sam and Dean arrive. Door is open. There are bloody footprints. The bathroom......Charlie? She's bloody in the bathtub.
Next week - Charlie's body is burned on a pyre. Dean goes hostile.
