"Frenemies - Chapter Nine: The Monsters"
CONFRONTING THE TRUTH - After a recent experience renews Courtney's (Brec Bassinger) confidence, she sets out to make amends with those around her. Jakeem (Alkoya Brunson) puts his foot down after Mike (Trae Romano) shares his latest plan. Finally, Beth (Anjelika Washington) makes a major discovery that leads to a terrifying battle no one saw coming. Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Yvette Monreal, Cameron Gellman, Neil Hopkins, Joy Osmanski, and Hunter Sansone also star. Andi Armaganian directed the episode written by Geoff Johns (#309). You've probably heard by now that Stargirl was canceled. Unfortunately, the new ownership of The CW is cleaning house. Geoff Johns says they did plan a conclusion to the season just in case, though.
Episode 9:
The grandma looks at a photo album of black and white old pics. And portraits of family. Then leaves the library. She walks through the house. to knock at Cam's room. He went out to the gardens to practice his sculpture. She doesn't want him to do more art. Grandfather sees the crumpled sketch ice over in the trash can.
Courtney's house. Barb sitting on the stairs. They come home. She hugs Courtney. We got some sleep on the bus. She heads upstairs. Barb asks Pat if he's okay. What did you see? Then hugs him.
Yolanda in Courtney's room. They hug. I'm sorry. Me, too.
In the kitchen. Pat wants to join Sylvester on his hunt. We don't know who is watching us. Barb wants him to talk about the Shadowlands. He says I saw my dad. Same twisted stuff he'd tell me as a kid. But that's not what got to me. That place made me feel like I'm following in his footsteps. Making Mike feel he's not good enough. Barb disagrees. He's bright and smart and kind. He knows you love him. Pat says he wasn't with Mike's mom long. Didn't know about Mike until after they split. But when he found out, he'd never been so happy. We shared custody for a couple years. Then one day there's a policeman at the door with Mike. He'd been at a shelter all night alone. Pat got full custody and she didn't fight. She walked away from Mike. He'd ask me if he could see her. Talk to her. And I'd tell him no. After a while, he stopped asking. I thought I was protecting Mike by treating her like she didn't exist. But now I don't know. Barb thinks Courtney got closure from her father coming to Blue Valley. It made us stronger. Letting kids face the pain is the only way to help them cope with it. Maybe Mike needs to see his mom again.
Courtney didn't think Yolanda's parents would kick her out. Yolanda thinks they'd never understand. I can't trust them. They'd tell people so they could try to control me. It's not just my secret, it's yours and Beth's and Rick's. Courtney needs to talk to them, but also has something to ask. I need your support on it.
Mike and Jakeem in the diner. Mike wants to find out who planted the cameras. Jakeem is worried about Cindy. She's out there alone. turning into a crocodile. Maybe Thunderbolt could cure her. Helping her is the right thing to do, after we deliver these papers.
Walking with a cane. A man approaches a front door and knocks. The Mahkents. I'm Mr. Deisinger. Cameron's art teacher? May I come in? They allow it. Thank you so much. I trust your morning is going well? this is a wonderful home. Thank you. Looks a little like Cameron's work. It's his mother's. I see where he gets his talent. Please sit. Teacher says Cameron quit art. He has such passion for it. Lily is hostile. Teacher says art makes Cameron happy. I've dreamt about it. I can't stand by and watch him throw it away. I won't. They argue in their native language. Grandfather is being reasonable, saying the teacher only wants to help their grandson. Lily kills the teacher with an ice spike to the heart! It doesn't matter what that man says now. He's dead.
**How is she going to explain that? Someone will notice Mr. Deisinger disappeared. They'll definitely notice if he turns up dead with a hole in his chest and frostbite around it!
**Cameron is learning to control his power through the art with it. How does that not help?
Pit Stop. Pat doing a search on the computer. Crock enters. Where's Pemberton? Beth tracked the feed to a mine in Utah. he radios. Another dead end. Beth thinks the signal is being bounced. He's heading back. Pat says he's looking for Mike's mom. Trying to figure out if she's in any shape to talk to him. it's a long story. Crock says let's hear it. Pat is reluctant. Crock says You gotta know by now. You can trust me. Let's talk.
High school. Courtney apologizes for not telling them about Cameron. Beth is gracious. Rick says they're good. Courtney wants to tell Cameron everything. I can't be with him if I can't be honest with him. I'm asking for your support. Rick says no. Every time you share our secret you make us less safe. Yolanda says I was wrong about Cindy. Cameron can't spend the rest of his life not knowing who his dad really was. Courtney says there's risk, but has faith it'll work out. I need to tell him the truth. Beth asks should we vote? Rick says don't bother. You do what you need to do. I've got your back. I've got everyone's back here no matter what. You're my family and nothing will ever change that. But don't say I didn't warn you. The hourglass is on him.
the gym. Paula wants Barb to work the punching bag. It's important you're ready for any kind of attack. Barb isn't comfortable learning how to hurt someone. It's not me. Paula says I understand. Barb says it means a lot, though. You're a good friend. Paula says no one's ever called me their friend before.
Mike and Jakeem in the hall at school. Makes a wish to open Cindy's locker. Thunderbolt says this is a gray area. They go through her stuff. Jakeem finds a list of the labs. All crossed off except one. A farm. The man used to sell moonshine. Mike says it has to be circled for a reason. This is it. Our lead.
Courtney at the Mahkents. She knocks. Cameron comes to the door. Can I come in? We need to talk. Yeah, sure.
The trash can has Deisinger's cane sticking out.
**Hope Courtney brought proof, not just the story. Cameron could easily not believe what she says about his father. He was sheltered from all that quite well.
Movie fest. Lovers Die at Dusk. Yolanda says when this started, I thought it'd be easy. But it's hard to tell good guys from bad guys. Rick has a headache. Beth has another lead. Where is it coming from? Inside the Mahkent house.
Lily in the hall. Listens to Cameron and Courtney. His dad brought snow globes back from business trips. Called them trophies. He sometimes forgets....then i remember. Courtney wants to talk to him about what happened to his father. He thinks he was killed trying to do something for the world. She asks him to let her say it all before he responds. How your father died, that's not really what happened. Lily busts in. That's enough! Then Hourman bursts through a wall. I warned you! Lily says you children will finally die for what you've done. Her eyes go icy.
**Rick, Beth getting a signal from the Mahkents is a lure to create a confrontation. But he can't think straight with the Hourglass on all the time.
Beth and Yolanda outside. Yolanda says wait here. Fighting is not your thing, Beth.
Hourman says these creepy old ghouls have been watching us. Cameron wants to get out of there. Courtney says that's Rick. Rick? Yolanda confronts the grandparents. Beth gets a call from her father. The grandfather says leave us be. She retreats. yolanda and Lily fighting. Beth's dad talked to Dr. McNider. Activate combat mode! Beta trial. Take cover. Duck. roll. Select fighting style. Activate cape shield.
Rick and Cameron fighting. Courtney keeps telling Rick to stop. But the boys keep charging at each other.
Artemis busts in. Old people. Gross. Let's go, nerd.
Cameron and Rick.
Yolanda and Lily. Lily pins her.
Cameron flies at rick and Rick catches him. Courtney pleads and he tosses her. Rick is strangling Cameron. Who freezes the arm. Cameron blasts Rick. Lily watches.
Girls still surviving. Grandpa Mahkent isn't trying to kill like his wife was.
Cameron kicks Rick. Lily says they killed your father! Cameron ices up and blasts Rick. Lily tells him Do it! Rick's unconscious. Do it! Grandpa tells Cameron to stop. This hate killed your father. Don't let them take your... Don't take your love! He collapses. Beth sees he's having a heart attack. Calls her mom. The gloves! Defib. Clear! She gets him back. Cameron looks at Courtney and it's not the same. Rick wakes up enough to tell Court he's sorry. They call 911.
Full moon. Etters Farm. Mike and Jakeem. It's creepy out here. Even the genie is creeped out. Main power lines cross with the main water lines. Plus, it's remote. The look in the windows. Let's check the back.
Dead farmer inside.
We should've brought a flashlight. Thunderbolt released. They look at the barn. Thunderbolt says this is really creepy. Jakeem doesn't think Cindy would ever hole up here. Something breathing. Growling. Ape man roars at them. Kill every last one of them!
Next week - They tell the team about the monster in the woods. Beth confronts Rick about the hourglass. Courtney apologizes to Cameron. Cameron asks her who killed his father.
