Deb has written a love letter to the world.
Screenwriter Kate Brooke on getting her hands on adapting ADOW: “Wow! Please!”
“Deb has created this story FROM someome getting a book out.” From getting this book, all of these things happen.
Matthew Goode: You’ve changed the mythology; this is a new kind of form.
It did feel otherworldly. “I’ll do anything to play this part.” on getting the role of Diana Bishop
Teresa on connecting with Matthew in role: we both have three kids and understand being really tired
Jane: Matthew is brilliant. He was natural for the part.
Deb: Ashmole 782 is a real MS and it’s really missing. So I can’t tell you what’s in it. Matthew: It’s rather like the Kama Sutra.
Teresa on rowing: As soon as you liberate yourself from overthinking the strokes... it’s quite meditative. Ok working with MSs: Deb helped her.
Jane: if you’re going to do fantasy set in the contemporary world, you have to take it seriously. Audience had to believe in Madison, in the Bodleian, in the lives our characters are living.
Matthew: A really important part of the story is the relationship Matthew has with Hamish.
Audience member: I have a Q about casting. Matthew: It’s a bit late now
How story differ from others Jane: The acceptance of otherness. Creatures aren’t what human propaganda has said that they are. Firm instinct of humans is to be fearful of things that aren’t like ourselves. Deb breaks this down and builds up 4 species.
Teresa: Diana has denied this side of herself. She’s forced to lean into her authenticity. She shines in that place. Goes on incredibly journey. Beautiful lesson in that.
Matthew: I’m pretty much a costume designer’s nightmare. “How about we put you in red?” “How about “no’?”
Jane: Wales will play Wales. And will take on shape of locations that that particular narrative dictates to us. I am passionate about having Wales be Wales. Wales is God’s own country
