In the episode, Beckett’s side of her abrupt disappearance is revealed. After receiving a mysterious tip from her past, Beckett is launched into a fight for her life, with a team of mercenaries hot on her trail. While Castle investigates why his wife is on the run, Beckett must figure out who wants her dead, before they can finish the job.
Episode 2:
Kate in the building, at the window. Remembering her conversation with Castle. The man with her asks if she's sure they're safe here. She says no. But we can have a couple days here.
The bad guys pull up and enter on the street.
Kate tells the guy to try to get some sleep. She goes in a bathroom and looks at her wound. Leaves her gun on the counter. Then hears footsteps on glass out in the hall. The team busts in shooting. Kate and the AG guy run. Into trouble. A woman saves them.
It's Rita, Castle's step-mother! Whoa.
Castle and Alexis going over the case. He wonders what else Kate is keeping from him. Martha arrives. With Hayley. She wants to help now. She's got feelers out all over the city.
Rita's been married to Jack almost 10 years. She hasn't seen him in 9 months. Kate asks what's your connection to all this? That's classified. Rita says if you want to stay alive, you need my help. Tell me everything.
Kate goes back to the phone call this morning. He had asked her to come to the theater alone. She goes there. Looks around. Finds him. Your entire former team is dead. They were all murdered. Someone tried to kill me, too. You are the center of this. Men come in. Kate tries to lead him out. He bumps into a light pole. Kate gets shot. They run out and get in a car. He tosses her phone. He says anyone you call will wind up dead.
They stop at a dry cleaner. He's dizzy, needs to eat. She works on her wound. He says I'm diabetic, need insulin. She uses a bottle of vodka to sterilize the wound. Starts sewing. He tells her about a redacted document detailing a meeting between Bracken and a senator. She says I ran a search on him and never got a hit. He says yesterday you did, and now people are dead.
Winterkill prison. Kate thought she'd never see Bracken again. AG guy says my sister died as a kid and I still think of her all the time. He says the memo had a word, Locksat. He forwarded it to McCord. 12 hours later, people were dead and I was running for my life. Kate thinks it was accidentally declassified and triggered an alarm. Bracken is surprised to see her. She asks about the agents. Then Locksat. He asks how she knows? She says doesn't matter. What is it? He says by being here, you've put a target on my back. You've stumbled upon something so over your head, I'm amazed you're alive.
Castle and Espo and Ryan watch video of Kate's visit to Bracken. They tell Castle to wait here while they talk to Bracken. He calls Alexis. She and Hayley are going to a hotel that Vikram was seen at.
16 hours ago - Vikram and Kate at the hotel. She wants him to hack into the gov't. Vikram goes into the bar and orders a drink. He and Kate talk on walkie talkies. She tells him the bad guys are there, get out. You have 15 seconds. Get out. Vikram got the memo and got out.
Alexis asks the security guy to rewind. Look at the mirror. She zooms in on Vikram's screen. Hayley says that was totally badass.
Kate followed the bad guys to a warehouse. She saved Castle, then went where Rita said to. She asks Rita what this is about. Rita says a dirty CIA guy was a partner with Bracken. They used CIA resources to smuggle the drugs into the country.
Ryan and Espo find Bracken dead. Very dead. He'd been put into solitary after attacking a guard after Castle's visit.
Rita gets an alert. She tells Kate, Bracken is dead. You have to go on the run to stay alive. One day, I'll get the Big Bad and take the target off your backs. Kate says, One day? Yes, dear. The life you've been living is over.
Ryan and Espo return to the precinct. Talk to Alison Hyde, the assistant AG. Where is Richard Castle? Are you confident he's been telling you everything?
Alexis, Castle, and Hayley look at the document. Espo calls. He tells Castle to come to the precinct immediately. Castle says I'll video conference you. Get Alexis and Hayley out of sight. Alison asks him if he's in contact with Captain Beckett? No. She says there are discrepancies re: Vikram Singh. he's not the man he told us he was. Which means he must be up to no good.
Kate says she's not running. But Vikram should. He says he'll stick with her. She asks if he's sure? He says I'll be safer with you than not. Kate tells Rita they're staying. She gives Kate a card and says dial that number and say you need your curtains cleaned. Rita leaves.
What does Locksat 2011b mean? Maybe it's the name of a transport company. Modern day Air America. And 2011b is on an airplane. They go to an airport. Kate pressures a man to talk about Locksat. Castle arrives. runs to save her.
Vikram shot the guy. Castle tackled Vikram. She tells Kate that Vikram is a mole. Hayley says the dead guy had his gun ready to fire. Kate says I can trust him and so can you. Shut up and kiss me. Hayley suggests finishing this later. Castle thanks her for the help.
They go to Castle's office. Castle confronts Kate about lying to me. She says the AG office has strict protocols. He gave me a life or death distress code. Castle says I was so worried. She knows, she was when he was gone for months. Castle wonders why he's so angry.....he's seen this before....we work better as a team. We can figure this out like always. She says okay, no more secrets. Castle hugs her. No more secrets.
They talk to Espo and Ryan. We have to work outside the system. Castle says Locksat fears exposure they can't control. He knows how to turn the lights on.
Castle schedules a news interview for him and Kate to talk.
Vikram thinks it's a stupid plan. Castle comes back. Bad guy walks in with back-up. Ryan and Espo come out of the safe room and tase them. Kate looks for a cell phone. It's encrypted. Hayley shows up, as a hostage. Ryan and Espo put their guns down. Castle gets his secret gun and shoots the guy. Non-lethal.
Kate tells the assist. AG to find out who is really responsible. Allison suggests having a security detail at all times. Offers her a job. Ryan and Espo says she has both. Castle calls for applause for Kate's first day as Captain. Kate gives a speech. She's so privileged to make a difference with each and every one of you. Now get back to work. Vikram cracked the phone. Only one number calls it. It's a govt cell registered to Allison Hyde. Kate tries to lock down the building, but they're already gone.
Dun dun dun!!!!
Kate and Ryan and Espo find Allison. She's shot herself in the head already. Espo asks if we should call the Feds. Kate says no. Vikram asks if this is really over.
Alexis in the office. Hayley comes to say goodbye. She's off to Chicago, then Denver. They'll keep in touch.
Rita finds Kate. Hyde was a scapegoat. What should we do? Rita says you are going home to your husband. Kate can't let it go. Rita asks what is this obsession? Kate says it's back and stronger than ever. Rita says you have to try. Don't end up like me. Live your life! Kate says friends of mine died. Rita asks why do you want to get Castle killed? Attachments are liabilities. That's the job. What do yo think will happen if Locksat finds out you and Castle are working on this? Anyone that dies now, that blood is on you.
Castle making food. Kate watches. He says how about breakfast for dinner. She says I'm sorry.....I love you so much. I have to go. I have to get my head right so we can have our happily ever after. Castle asks where is this coming from? Why are you giving up on our marriage? If you have a problem, we have a problem. She says if you trust me, please let me go. And hopefully you'll take me back some day. She kisses him, says she loves him, and walks out the door.
Next week - Castle goes after her.
