“Witness For The Prosecution”
Castle finally gets his day in court when he takes the stand as the key witness to a murder from five months ago. But when new information suddenly arises, he and Beckett must race against the clock to prevent a miscarriage of justice, on “Castle,” SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.
Episode 10:
Castle at a party. Looking for the bathroom. And he sees a woman killing another woman! She escapes into the backyard. he goes downstairs and says call 911. And the woman is gone.
5 months later. Kate says be charming, but not too charming. Guiding him on testifying in court. She says it can be nerve-wracking. She'll be there, too. He wants to come up with an I love you signal. LOL. She's off to meet Vikram.
The strip club. Vikram says we have nothing. What is Caleb Brown's weakness?
Castle at the courthouse. Prosecutor advising him. Meet with the family. We'll get her justice. Kate talks to Marcus, the prosecutor. Lanie asked him out! Caleb Brown walks in to represent the accused. Novak's wife went into labor, so the public defender's office called Caleb. Lanie testifies as ME. Espo and Ryan testify, too. Prosecutor calls in Castle. He's sworn in. Asked what he does for a living. What brought him to the home? He was going to read his latest novel.
The hostess is a big fan. Castle is introduced to the hubby and the Beakmans. And the killer, the waitress. Castle reads from his book. After the reading, he needed the restroom. Went upstairs and saw the defendant kill Sadie Beakman. Mr. Brown gets his questions. He asks Castle if he's sure about the woman. And also says you have a history of memory loss. Castle says only of the 8 weeks. I was an eye witness of this murder. Caleb asks him to read a highlighted section of the book. About eye witnesses not being reliable. Castle insists he knows what he saw. Caleb brings up the Cole Whitfield case. Castle refutes it. Kate asks Marcus to help. He would if he could. Caleb says weren't you once framed for murder? Castle says yes, but that was 3XK, that was different. Caleb says maybe my client came across the victim after the client left. Is it possible she did not kill Mrs. Beakman?! Castle says yes.....possible.
Judge tells Castle he can step down. Calls recess until the morning. Castle walks out. Marcus pulls him aside. Kate asks if he's okay? Castle says I blew the case. Kate says we have until morning to find another witness or new evidence.
They goes through the case files that night over Chinese food. Ryan says we've all got turned around on the stand. Espo got horribly embarrassed back when he was in uniform. The old lady still laughs at him about it. LOL. Kate gets the idea to ask about what the accused has said after the murder, in jail.
The boys talk to her cellmate. Has Nina said anything about the murder? Yep. And she's guilty as hell. Ryan asks what Bridget wants. Money in her commissary account. They make a deal. Nina said she has a boyfriend.
How do we find the boyfriend? Ryan went through Nina's financials. The hotel next to a bar had surveillance from the night before Sadie's death. Sadie and Nina kissing! The victim and killer were having an affair? Why is my voice so high? LOLOLOL.
Marcus is happy to see the vid. He'll have his people track down employees of the former bar. Kate tells the boys to talk to Nina's people.
Couple hired the catering company on Sadie's rec. The basketball hoop had been against the house then. They assumed Nina moved it.
Castle tells Marcus. Kate says if Nina didn't move the hoop, who did? Castle isn't sure he saw Nina kill Sadie. Marcus says he's sure. Asks Kate to please talk to Castle. She asks him if he's sure. I don't know. But sending an innocent person to jail is worse than a murderer going free.
He talks to Martha and Alexis about what he saw. They say it sounds like Nina killed her. He has an idea to figure out how to be sure. I need to delay the trial, and talk to Nina one on one. I'm going to get thrown in jail.
Castle goes to the judge. He'd like a do-over. She says that's stupid. And she could hold him in contempt for this. She calls in a deputy to escort Castle out. Castle insults her. Phone rings. Martha calls as her security company. Her house has been burglarized. Castle offers to find the burglars. And insults her again. Now he's in a holding cell.
Trial postponed until tomorrow. Nina across from his cell. I know about the affair with Sadie. The ADA will use it to bury you. Tell me what I missed. She says she pulled the poker out to help Sadie. I panicked. I'd been arrested before and no cops believed me. I told my public defender about the affair and he said it looked like motive. Castle asks her about the fight. Nina had cheated with guys in the past. Nina was her first lesbian. Sadie asked her to bring her Roger Master's empty champagne glass. Nina got mad. She could've lost her job. But she'd do anything for Sadie. Sadie took the glass upstairs. She told this to her original lawyer and he didn't care. She says thank goodness for Caleb. Ryan and Espo come to get Castle. He promises to figure out what happened.
Kate says he's out of his mind. Castle thinks Sadie was after Roger's DNA. Maybe her daughter was actually Roger's. Vikram points out that Caleb is in the precinct. Kate tells Caleb that she knew nothing about Castle's actions. She tells him she has people looking into Nina's case. He appreciates that. She asks why he's passionate about this case? He says justice. He gets a call. Judge has ordered the trial resume in 30 minutes. Your people better hurry.
Castle and the boys visit Roger. We need to nail down who the killer is before an innocent woman is convicted. Espo says Sadie asked Nina to bring her a glass with your DNA on it. Ryan says we think you had an affair with Sadie. Roger's infertile. Sadie knew that. Castle says Sadie wanted your glass. Why? Perhaps for your fingerprint. Joanna knows. The safe in the bedroom. He doesn't want to open it. Castle offers Joanna a character named after her. She threatens Roger with whispers and he opens the safe. There's a cassette tape. What's on it, Roger?
They watch the video at the precinct. Sadie finds a duffel bag of cash. Roger suggests taking it. 5 million. No one will miss it. Sadie puts it back. Let's get out of here. Kate says you went back to get it. He insists he did. But Sadie didn't. He says she smuggled it into the US and left him out. He blackmailed her. He says his wife won't stop spending. He says he didn't know Sadie was trying to steal the tape. Prove it! He was in the basement getting backed with a couple friends. LOL.
Kate tells Castle we're back to square one. Castle has an idea. Barges into the trial. Now what? Castle doesn't know. He didn't think it through. LOLOLOLOL.
Castle addresses the judge. Apologizes for the interruption. Kate says the defense has a witness to call. Caleb does. Kate says Nina didn't do it, but we don't know who did. Caleb asks Castle if he thinks Nina is guilty? No. He says Nina is a victim of bad timing. Had I got there earlier, I would've seen Sadie already stabbed. Castle says Nina is on trial because the restroom downstairs was occupied! I was rushing to the back of the house, but the true killer never left. Still in the bathroom, cleaning the mud off his shoes. Did you see this man? Yeah. Point to this man? Yes. It was her husband. The girl says you and Mom disappeared from the party at the same time! Kate says Sadie and Roger weren't having an affair. Sadie caught you spying on her. He admits that Sadie thought it was funny when he accused her of being with Roger. He didn't mean it....he loved Sadie.....Caleb advises him to stop talking now. Marcus asks the judge to let Nina go. Judge grants it.
Team together. That Caleb Brown is alright. Heh. Kate says we learned today that Caleb is a monster desperate to do good. We wanted a weakness, and found it.
Kate and Castle celebrate. Toast with champagne. He asks how the Loksat investigation is coming? She can't tell. But she's getting close. He says good, so am I. Kisses her.
Tomorrow - a big fan. Dangerous fan.
