The Recruits
SUIT UP — Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) new recruits for Team Arrow are Curtis (Echo Kellum), Wild Dog, (guest star Rick Gonzalez) and Evelyn Sharp (guest star Madison McLaughlin). Unfortunately, the Green Arrow’s training methods prove to be too much for some of them to handle. Meanwhile, in the flashbacks, Oliver’s initiation into the Bratva continues. Episode 2:
Wild Dog on the streets. bad guy shoots at him. Wild Dog shoots back and nicks him. Green Arrow wraps up Wild Dog when he falls off a building. Renee Ramirez, you need to decide if you want to be a man in a hockey mask or someone else. Something else.
Felicity watching Curtis do the salmon ladder. They're talking about Church. Curtis falls. Oliver does the rungs. Felicity still thinks it's hot. Oliver tells Curtis he has the farthest way to go. Oliver says they're all wearing masks. It's not negotiable. Oliver leaves.
Diggle! Latvia. Sergeant now. Diggle talks to a rookie. Kid is scared. Diggle says fear is part of war. These stripes give me strength, clarity. They tell me what to do.
City Hall. Oliver at a budget meeting. Free medical clinic event. Looking for coverage of logistical expenses. A woman says she's in. Covering the whole thing. Thea's impressed. Then tells Oliver she can't do everything on her own. He says he's recruiting a new team. Are you okay with that? She is. More time for you to be here. He tells her to hire her own team for the office. She calls Quentin.
Felicity and Curtis meet Ramirez. Evelyn is already there. Green Arrow arrives. Ramirez wants to leave. Arrow tells them on the line. Evelyn thought there would be orientation. Arrow says get past me and ring that bell. Ramirez tries first. Arrow downs them all. And again. Ramirez is still mouthy.
Russia. Oliver wakes. On the line. Ring the bell. The recruits get beat.
Man on the street. Hands money to what he thinks is a homeless guy. Prometheus attacks him.
Evan Warner is in the ICU. Oliver and Felicity. Amertech VP attacked is not a coincidence.
Russia. Oliver and another recruit doing better.
Amertech is pulling out of the event. Oliver offers to indemnify Amertech and triple security. She'll hold him to that. Thea asks what's the back-up plan? Oliver says me.
Diggle on mission. Invading a building in Chechnya. Under fire. Men down.
Recruit beat-up time. Evelyn and Ramirez don't understand. Arrow says the goal of the exercise is to figure out the goal of this exercise. Felicity asks to speak to him. Shows him the video of the attack. She makes a green joke and he's not amused. Tells him the convention center has 20 entrances. Put them on patrol.
The event. Oliver enters. He's directing the newbs. Thea and Quentin. The event is almost over. He says traffic was terrible. He's drunk. Woman screams. What is that thing?! Green Arrow and the kids try to attack it. Felicity says it's like he disappeared.
Curtis and Evelyn ask if he's coming? She's mad at Ramirez. He got a piece of cloth from the bad guy. Arrow puts them on the line. And grills into them. Felicity goes after him for being abusive. He reminds her Laurel is dead. I had a few people who taught me and I'm trying to teach them. She says you're not giving them any reason. Oliver has to get to City Hall.
Diggle patches up the kid. They hear a voice. And the soldiers are stealing the target. Diggle's in trouble.
Felicity with her cop boyfriend. With coffee. She wants him to look into the fabric. She makes up a story to explain it. He wants to meet her friends, which hasn't happened, yet. She coaxes him into analyzing the fabric.
Quentin and Thea. Oliver arrives. Quentin leaves. That was awkward. CEO of Amertech is going to sue the city. Oliver presses about Quentin. Thea says the dude in rags came through the door he was supposed to be working. Oliver says he shouldn't be in a position of responsibility right now. She'll talk to Quentin.
The newbs quit. Oliver asks Curtis about the purpose of the exercise. Curtis says we don't trust you because you don't trust us because you don't want us here. Curtis tried to talk to the others, but they left. He digs into Oliver. I'm out, too.
Oliver staring at the costumes. I failed these recruits as a leader. Felicity says you're not a leader. When I got to know you, the real you, I was in awe. I had never met somebody so passionate and focused and determined. All you showed the recruits was a scary angry guy. He thought it'd be easier for him. When I was in Bratva...no one in Bratva uses real names. No one knows anything before you're Bratva. You can trust yourself. Without personal attachment, there is no loss. I let the others into my crusade, I let them in and.... She says you're missing something. The original team worked so well because of the trust and respect everyone had for Oliver Queen, not the Green Arrow. Phone buzzes. Billy Malone.
Russia. Still trying to ring the bell. Oliver tries to plan with the others. It has to be all of us working together. So they try. Oliver rings the bell. And the others are shot. Anatoly congratulates Oliver.
Thea couldn't get past the reception desk. She spots the CEO in an alley and spies on her. She's talking with Church. 100 million to take over the city. She's selling him enough ordinance to take over a country.
Diggle tied up. CO ambushed his own soldiers. The newb is brought in. And killed. Diggle mad. CO's contacts haven't shown up. Then Diggle showed up and solved the problem.
Thea tells Oliver what she heard. Felicity enters. Amertech is on the verge of bankruptcy. The rag was over 2000 years old and radioactive. A nuke from Atomic Defense Systems. Connection to Genesis Day has tanked their stock prices. Oliver wants to find the man in the rags. Thea tells him to take the team. He says there is no team. He's going alone.
Green Arrow at the site.
CEO and Church. Rag guy attacks. Finds Janet. Green Arrow cuts the lights. Takes out more thugs. Rag guy mad about the nuke. Arrow and Church fighting again. Rag guy says he's the last of Havenrock.
Church has Arrow down. Rag guy helps. Janet runs. Green Arrow says it's over.
Green Arrow and Rag guy meet. Rag guy shows his face. His father saved his life, wrapping him in the rags on Genesis Day. They protected him from the fire. Arrow says your father didn't give up his life so you could be a killer. My father gave up his life for mine and made me promise to be better than him. To save the city like he never could. That was 10 years ago and I've failed. I don't want to fail anymore. Let's honor the legacies of our fathers together.
Oliver asks Anatoly why they killed the others. Anatoly says you rang the bell. You used them to win. Only person you can trust is yourself. Oliver passes out.
Diggle awake. CO wants him to right a confession. Diggle won't. CO used Diggle's gun to shoot the private. I got 6 men to testify to him walking in on you stealing a WMD. Good luck with your court martial.
Quentin and Thea. He admits he's drinking again and apologizes. She says no. Offers him a job. Deputy Mayor. We are hiring the former captain of the SCPD who is honoring his daughter's memory by serving the city she loved. Oliver says you needed a reason to stay sober so I thought this could be it.
Green Arrow and Felicity. Meeting with the recruits again. Oliver reveals himself to them. You all need to trust me and this is as far as I know how to go. Curtis is in. Evelyn is in. Wild Dog? Yes. But he wants a different codename. Oliver says no chance.
Church is shot. Prometheus. The Green Arrow is mine! You kill him, you die.
