“Honor Thy Fathers”
CHASE CONTINUES TO TORMENT OLIVER — Oliver (Stephen Amell) returns to the mayor’s office and faces one of his most pressing issues yet – the forced release of dozens of violent criminals prosecuted by Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra). Meanwhile, a crate is delivered to Oliver’s office containing a mysterious corpse encased in concrete. Laura Belsey directed the episode written by Marc Guggenheim & Sarah Tarkoff (#521). Mayor's office. Quentin and Oliver. Retrials on the cases Chase prosecuted. 36 felons on the streets. Where are we on finding Chase? nowhere. Cop tells him to leave the building. A suspicious package from Simon Morrison showed up. Oliver goes to it. Big box. Cops aren't happy he opens it. It's a body! A skeleton in concrete.
Who is he? Henry Goodwin. Dinah says a councilman in the Glades in 2002. Declared dead in 2003. Oliver tells her to pull all the forensics she can find. And if there's no connection?
Arrow Cave. Oliver tells them to find the connection. Always one with Chase. Diggle says they're already spread thin. Oliver tells the group to stay on the most dangerous felons. He then asks about William. Felicity is having trouble finding him. Oliver feels better for that.
Russia. Oliver flying a small plane with Anatoly. Anatoly regrets drinking so much last night. Where you learn? My dad loved vintage planes. He took me up all the time. They watch a video from Robert to Oliver about why Oliver has to go back. They fly over Lian Yu.
Dinah says the concrete is a proprietary formula. Killer's DNA under the fingernails. She has the suspect and gives the file to Quentin.
Thea shows up to Oliver's meeting. He clears the room and hugs her. He wants to protect her because of what Chase is capable of. She knows, but she wasn't ready to come back. He asks if she was with Roy. No, she doesn't want him to see the state she's in. Quentin arrives with Dinah. Surprised to see her. Maybe we should do this in private. Maybe come back later. Oliver asks for the suspect. Dinah says it's your father.
**That explains the episode title.
Oliver says he' framing our father. They can't keep this from going public. Oliver tells Dinah to get evidence to Felicity. He's convinced Robert is being framed. He wants to do a press conference. Thea says reconsider. Chase is manipulating you. She's open to Robert being guilty. Oliver doesn't believe that.
Lian Yu. Oliver and the trunk and Anatoly. It's easier if I'm a simple castaway. He finds the mask. Oliver stakes it to the beach with an arrow.
Quentin and Rene. Rene has good news. Got a court date. Expedited custody. Thought Quentin would..... Show up for moral support? It'd be an honor. Now get out of here.
Bunker. Felicity and John. She thinks she has a location for Goodwin's murder.
Curtis and Dinah staking out a felon. Waiting for him to do something illegal.
Oliver and Spartan. Abandoned building for a month, a toxic gas leak. They enter. Where do we search? there's an explosion. And now they're locked. Concrete pouring in to bury them alive.
**Wait, we're smarter than this. Apparently not. Don't worry, R2's coming. Oh, great. No loose wire jokes. I didn't say anything!
**Yeah, we quote Star Wars when there's a trap.
Felicity tells Curtis and Dinah that Olvier and Dig are in trouble.
Diggle assuming they'll get out. morse code. hole cut. that was fast.
felicity and Curtis reference "Witness". What did Samson do? Steal chemicals. 2 of the 3 components to weaponize tuberculosis. 3rd chemical was banned, therefore difficult to get. Quentin and Rene arrive. Darren Kaufman was Goodwin's lawyer. And represented Chase's father.
They call him to the mayor's office. Oliver and Thea talk with the lawyer. You were the last person seen with Goodwin. He hands over a thumb drive. Chase asked him to hand to Oliver. He said you'd seek me out. It proves the kind of man your father truly was. Thea presses about Chase's father. What do you know?
Lian Yu. Oliver took Anatoly to Robert's grave. Hood is just piece of cloth. Oliver says it's an identity. My enemies will target The Hood, not the people I care for. Anatoly calls him naive. You are paying for your father's sins. Who will pay for yours?
Oliver wants to destroy it. Thea says don't you want to see what's on it first? Oliver is done with Chase's mind games. felicity calls. Oliver asks Thea to come with. She won't.
Criminals with the chemicals. Team Arrow invades. Samson evades.
Felicity calls. Thea called. She looked at the drive. You have GOT to see this. Footage from the site back in 2002. I know what you're about to say and I don't see how this could be fake. Please. She plays it. Robert and Goodwin arguing. Goodwin fell off the catwalk into a big vat of concrete. Robert looks around, faces the camera, and leaves. It was an accident, but the obvious point is that he covered it up instead of calling 911.
Oliver, I am not the man you think I am. I should've believed him. She asks if he's okay? Are you? She says no, but after Malcolm, I can handle anything. No surprise I turned out to be a monster. You're not a monster and neither was Dad. She says our parents loved us, but that love doesn't make up for what they've done. Maybe the most terrible of all is making us just like them. Oliver gets a text. has to go.
Lian Yu. Let's go over the plan. Anatoly says we have been over and over. Humor me. A boat will come in 48 days. You get their attention with bonfire, and you sail home. Anatoly gives him a backpack. No barbershop on island. Heh. They won't say goodbye. Final hug. You'll always be my brother, Oliver. Anatoly leaves.
Oliver in the Cave. Curtis finishes analysis. Samson's stolen chemicals could make an agent a 1000 times more powerful than the last. Uncurable. The chemical will degrade quickly, so it has to be used soon.
Rene got a call this afternoon. A hearing. Judge wants him to testify. He thinks it'll traumatize Zoe. Quentin argues with him. Rene says I go and I do it for me, not my daughter. We both know I'm no prize, Hoss. Quentin says this is just nerves talking. go to that courtroom and the new memories Zoe will have....you get to decide if they're great and how she remembers you. Please, Rene.
Oliver watches Robert's video again. You can right my wrongs. You can be better than I was. You can save this city. Felicity says no pressure or anything. Oliver says he left one for Thea, too. I never showed her. It asked her to watch over Oliver and he didn't want to burden her with that. He wonders how he missed that Robert was a murderer. It's like I didn't know him at all. She says this is what Chase wants. Oliver knows. This crusade began with my father. Everything I've done has been about honoring him. She says at this point, who cares why you've saved the city? My life is better because you are the Green Arrow. Whenever you decide to be again. He says the past keeps pulling me back. She says live for yourself and leave the past in the past. Computer has a location. Robert Queen Applied Sciences.
Oliver in the Green Arrow suit again. Team Arrow on site. Wild Dog, sit tight until I get there. Prometheus is in the stairwell. Oliver says he's mine, and they fight. Curtis and Spartan on the roof.
Continuing to fight in the stairwell.
Curtis will disarm the bomb. They'll cover him.
Chase tosses Oliver.
Samson grabs Rene.
Oliver gets up and tries a takedown. Over committed.
Dinah saves Rene.
Chase removes his hood. How'd you think you'd beat me, Oliver? We were trained by the same teacher. Oliver says he's his own man. Calls Chase's father's legacy funny. Chase screams at him to know why.
Curtis got the bomb disabled.
You don't know what your father asked the lawyer to do. He was going to disown you. because you're insane. You're sick and your father knew it. You've been trying to honor the memory of a man who was ashamed of you. My father wasn't perfect but at least I know he never would've given up on me. Chase kneels on the ground. Sets the sword on the floor. Go ahead. Do it. Oliver says no. I'm not going to kill you. But I will watch you face justice. Knocks him out.
**If Chase is willing to give up because his mission is no longer righteous, what makes him a villain for the last episodes? What is he going to do next?
Thea comes down in the bunker. Chase is in an ARGUS cell. Dinah says there are a lot of bad guys still on the streets. Rene says way to kill the mood. Oliver says he's right. For tonight. LOL. Team leaves to have celebratory drinks. Oliver wants to give Thea the video. She doesn't think she wants to see any more videos. Oliver says she'll want to watch this one. You're not destined to become Dad or Malcolm or Mom. Tells her to leave the past in the past.
Lian Yu. Oliver preparing. He's darted in the neck. By who? Two men. And the Russian!
Rene isn't at the hearing. Oh no. Quentin pleads for a few more minutes. texts him over and over. Judge denies the parental rights due to him not showing up.
Thea watches the video. I wanted you to know how much I love you. You're my daughter, my special girl. I've done some things I'm not proud of, but I'm proud of you, always have been. Smart, generous, loving, just like your mom. You're stronger than your brother. He'll need to lean on you more than you need to lean on him. Oliver can get through anything with the strength and love of his sister. Oliver comes in. She misses Dad. He misses both, every day. Thea doesn't know how to reconcile him with the man in the video. Oliver says you don't have to. They were complicated and so are we. We have to live our own lives. They'd want this for us.
Oliver calls a press conference. The allegations made against Robert Queen are true. I can't find the words to defend his actions, but nearly 10 years ago, in a moment of intense courage, he chose to sacrifice himself so I might live. So I might one day lead this city. Thanks to the Green Arrow and his team, we can move forward. Inspirational yada yada
Chase watches the TV and grins.
