“We’re Gonna Need A Spotlight”

THE SALVATORE SCHOOL’S ANNUAL TALENT SHOW — When Alaric (Matthew Davis) decides to postpone the school’s annual talent show, Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie (Kaylee Bryant) are determined to make sure the show goes on. Meanwhile, tensions arise when the students face a creature that lowers their inhibitions. Lastly, Alaric decides to play hooky with Emma (guest star Karen David). Danielle Rose Russell, Aria Shahghasemi, Quincy Fouse and Peyton Alex Smith also star. Barbara Brown directed the episode written by Thomas Brandon & Penny Cox (#109). Original airdate 2/21/2019.

Episode 11:

Night at the school. Alarm goes off for the trap. Ric in his bathrobe still. It's a horse. A unicorn. Hope tells them not the shoot it. Can't we just leave it alone? It's trapped. Except it just shed a parasite worm. It's on Hope's boot!

It crawls into Hope's nose while she's asleep. Morning. She's cheery when she finds Landon and Rafe.

Lizzie and Josie. Airy clouds floating above drama. Lizzie is wearing a bracelet from Caroline. They greet Rafael and Landon. Talent show is tonight. Ric calls attention. Tells the school that they captured a monster. He's postponing the talent show. We'll do it at a much, much later date. Hope says a unicorn barely counts as a monster.

Lizzie and Josie want the Honor Council to vote. The talent show is back on.

Hope wants to do a talent with Landon. Team Other. Raf walks away when they start kissing.

Josie asking about the canes for the show. Lizzie is looking for them. Penelope comes over. Gives Josie a note. Hope says what do you think it says? I've got you, girl. She hugs Josie. And the parasite worm goes into her! Now she smiles.

Ric on a couch. Only one day in my calendar I fear above all others. The talent show. The witch counselor says play hookie with me. Give yourself the day off.

Dorian with the unicorn. I've got my eye on you. He doesn't believe the unicorn is harmless. Worm crawling up his leg!

Lizzie directing choreography. And it's a mess. Where is Josie? Am I late? Lizzie asks where are the canes? I don't know. I don't feel like stressing about it. I don't feel like being in the back row. I think we should scrap that lame routine. It'd be fun! Lizzie says we do this routine every year because we win every year. Josie wants to sing a new song. Have a collaboration. She leans into Lizzie. Doesn't that sound nice?

Raf sits with Hope. The wolves deciding what to do for the show is an alpha thing. Hope has to cut him for the class. She asks what he'll do for the show? He says one of the wolves will teach me how to juggle. Teacher says well done, Hope. She's off to figure out what she and Landon will do for the show. She hugs Raf. I'm so lucky to have you as a true friend.

Kaleb gets a worm in the ear. MG wants to compel people to do stupid human tricks. Boooooo. Standup comedy? Booooo. Kaleb says we should use this time to take a stand.....we should.....we should....sing! And he actually can. He needs a piano and a spotlight.

Landon and Hope baking a cake. Cake decorating counts as a talent? She suggests he sing. He says my songs are private. He likes her giggling. She says the only thing that'd make this day better is to get that damn urn out. The cake is burning! And her eyes glow green! She gets shocked and the worm leaps out! They stab it.

They go to Dorian for help. Did it look like this? This one tried to get into me. The unicorn lays down in distress. Hope says see....harmless.....

Kaleb singing on the stage at the show. Then it turns into a hip hop dance routine. The other students are cheering for the vamps.

Lizzie and Josie arguing. Get dressed! Please. Josie goes to Penelope. Thought you were avoiding me. Josie asks her to get out of here.

Dorian and Hope and Landon. The unicorn was the host for the parasite. Slugs must replicate. Dorian can't find any legends about this. Landon says Sci-Fi is our modern day myths. It's like an infection. It gets worse as it spreads. Hope says parts of this thing look bioluminescent. Hope has a glowing trail on her face.

Ric and the counselor at a bar. Let's talk about you. Truth or shot. He says he has a doctorate in history and drinking games. She asks for his most embarrassing childhood memory. He drinks. Then he asks who was your first kiss? She drinks. Then asks who he's always so hard on himself. He says if I mess up, it effects hundreds of people. They always need me to have the answer. She asks what do you need? He asks her to dinner sometime. She says now you ask me? She's just started seeing someone. He's a good man. Ric says say no more.

Using the black light to follow the slug trail. Hope says this is why I hate sci-fi. Slug trails on the floor to all over the wall around the fireplace.

They follow to the talent show. We have to electrocute every kid in the school without killing them. Rafael is doing spoken word poetry for his talent. Landon grows. He promised he wouldn't do this again. LOL. Raf spots them. He says he's no longer needed. And hints at crushing on Hope. It won't go away. And I was never jealous of anything you had. Until today. And why is that artifact here. Monsters coming. Students stand up. Raf's eyes glow green. They're all infected and rushing them. Hope spells the doors shut. That should hold the pod people for now.

Counselor sings at the bar. With a feather boa around her neck. Ric gets up to join her for another song. Wow. Phone rings. They move aside to talk to Dorian. Dorian tells them what's happening. Mind control slugs. We're totally infected, aren't we? Does this mean we have to shock ourselves? She suggests taking the urn. He says we shouldn't do something drastic. Then they kiss! And again. Wanna shock yourself? She goes first with the wire. He stomps on the slug. Then shocks himself. No worm. That's totally awkward.

Dorian brought chains. He'll secure the downstairs. Lizzie asks what Hope and Landon are doing out here? Uh-oh.

**Good of Caroline to come up with the magic bracelet to keep Lizzie polite and controlling her temper. It seems to zap her into being nice when she goes into bitch mode again. But needing that doodad just to keep you decent around people means you're really not a good person.

They wrap Lizzie in chains. They check for the slug trails. She spelled it to zap her when she says something mean in increasing voltage each time. She was looking for Josie and she bailed on the performance.

Josie and Penelope break the warding.

Ric makes it to Dorian. The witch secures the doors. Dorian hugs her. So glad you're okay. She has a solution for the slug problem.

Landon is in the vent ducts. Dust used by Roman witches. It conducts electricity. All you need is a spark. The kids are fixed all at once.

Penelope kisses Josie. That's what was in the note. Josie kisses her. Then says we're never getting back together. They spot the urn. Hope confronts them. Magic Penelope back. Found the canes. Josie about to throw fire. Lizzie stops her. Answer while you're honest. Am I a good sister? Josie says Are you kidding, you're a terrible sister. Then she's shocked by the bracelet and the slug comes out. Hope kills it. Josie apologizes. Lizzie hugs her.

**Surprising that Lizzie made the spelled bracelet herself. She seemed to be back to her typical mean self at the end of the djinn episode. Maybe Caroline gave her the idea while they were in Europe.

Landon catches up to Raf. Raf says he doesn't know what he said. Ric on the intercom. We could all use a pick me up. Like a talent show re do. Landon says we're good for real? Rafael says always. Then walks around the corner and that's not what his face says.

Vampires do a sit in protest. Lizzie brings the canes. I have new choreography. And Josie is singing. The spotlight is officially yours. She goes to a mic all dressed up. A song about standing in shadows and feeling invisible. Kids cheer for her. Ric looks proud. Josie is getting into the performance. Standing ovation. Lizzie claps for her behind her.

Hope in her room. Landon comes to see her. She says it took 3 showers but I think I'm pretty clean. Landon wonders why he wasn't infected. You don't have a theory? She says I was ridiculous all day, but I was happy. Maybe it could be that way all the time. Maybe all that's keeping me from being happy is me. He brought his guitar to sing her a song. Singing about her eyes and having arguments. Her smile she tries to hide. It lights up a room. All of her fascinating contradictions are beautiful to you. I'm falling for a girl and I can't wait to tell you all about her. He can't wait to meet who she will be. So I can know everything about her. She kisses him.

Lizzie tells Ric and Josie that she doesn't think she can change. Maybe I should be what people expect me to be. I will permanently unleash my inner bitch. The witches won. Josie asks was today the real me? Ric says what defines someone is what they won't do. The counselor glances at Ric as she and Dorian pass by.

Ric pours a drink and there's a slug in it! He drinks it while holding the urn! Then he calls Emma and says he's sorry. Then slug mixed everything up. I hate that urn. I'm getting rid of it. His eyes glow green and he drops the urn in the river.

Next ep - stinging plague! Worst spring break ever.
