After passing the Captain’s exam in the Season 7 finale, Beckett was surprised with an offer to run for State Senate. In the action packed season premiere, Castle and Beckett are adjusting to Beckett’s career change, when a call from a mysterious stranger sets off an explosive chain of events. There are two sides to every story, and this unique two-parter will explore the same story from each of their perspectives, first from Castle’s side as he searches for Beckett.
Castle stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Tamala Jones as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan, Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle, with Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers. For Season 8, Toks Olagundoye (“The Neighbors”) joins the series as Hayley, a quick-witted, free-spirited, former Scotland Yard police officer who works as a security specialist and is not afraid to cross lines to get things done.
The guest cast for the season premiere includes Sunkrish Bala as Vikram Singh, Brad Lee Wind as Franco Mancini, Coby Ryan McLaughlin as Brooks, Jack Coleman as Senator Will Bracken, and Daisy Betts as A.J..

Episode 1:
A bar. Young women drinks a martini. A man approaches her. Asks why she's following him. She climbs on his lap and kisses him. And stabs him in the heart! She says it'll all be over soon. Don't fight it.
Kate gets ready in the morning. Castle has a giant cupcake for her. First day, Captain Beckett. He's not coming to the office. He says dig in. There's a jewelry box in the cake - for a bracelet. Phone rings. He answers it. Hands it to her. She says she's not interested. Telemarketer. Castle puts the bracelet on her wrist. She's off to a meeting at 1 PP.
Ryan and Espo fighting over Beckett's old desk. Gates is the new Deputy Chief. Ryan says when's it our turn to get promoted. Jenny's pregnant. He found out last night. He's still worried about money. There's a homicide.
Castle arrives at his office and there's a guy there. Thanks for solving my case, you and your associate. Alexis has some explaining to do. Her hair is so much shorter! Wow, there's a room with a bar behind the main office. Castle asks why she's working her cases. She says she's closed 4 cases. What about college? She says she has is handled. Espo calls.
Your wife is not answering her cell. Castle says she's at 1 PP.
Castle goes to the crime scene. Multiple dead bodies. Espo and Ryan fill him in. Lanie says they were shot from above on the balcony. Castle steps in blood. Shooter took a bullet. Castle finds Beckett's bracelet!! I gave it to her this morning. She was here.
Castle in Beckett's office. Espo says the blood is a match. Espo says the dead guy's names are all fake. Ryan got an address.
They bust in. It's ransacked, but empty? Castle gets punched. An English woman is arrested.
Espo and Ryan talk to Hayley. They read her file. She's a former cop in London. How do you know the guy that rents that apartment? She wants to leave. Ryan says we have a missing police captain, so start talking now. She says she's freelance security. She was tracking 5 IDs. 4 males, 1 woman. Check my alibis so I can get out of here.
They have to let her go. Castle approaches her. That missing captain is my wife. What do you know? Name your price. I just want my wife back. Hayley says she doesn't know anything.
Ryan and Espo say a laundry van was found with blood in it. They talk to a woman who says Beckett was in charge when they came through. The man with her was East Indian. Beckett's clothes were left there. The young man had called her this morning. Castle wonders what she's doing?
Call came from a burner phone, so no trace. Why wouldn't Beckett call for back-up? Castle says we find the man, we find Beckett. Alexis calls Castle to the office. Come alone.
Hayley is there. She didn't tell Alexis about Beckett. Castle asks what's the catch. Hayley says she'll help but no cops. Alexis asks what happened? Castle says Beckett is hurt and on the run. Hayley asks about the man. Castle gives the description. Hayley has a lead on 2 of the IDs. There are still 2 killers hunting Beckett. Alexis asks about sugar at the dry cleaners. She thinks he might've been diabetic. Hayley tells her to follow up on her hunch.
Hayley and Castle go into a building through the back.
Alexis approaches an ambulance. Her hair is a darker red in the daylight. She interviews the EMT. There are 2 missing vials of insulin. They watch video from the time of the hoax call. It's Beckett. She and the young man get into a taxi. 45K4.
Castle and Hayley go into a storage locker of weapons. There's a noise. Then someone shoots at them. Hayley goes after them. It's the assassin from the beginning. They fight. Assassin gets away. Hayley is wounded. Castle gets a call from Alexis. She tells him Beckett went to a prison upstate. She visited William Bracken. Hayley asks why. Castle tells her. Hayley asks why today of all days? Castle says Bracken is very powerful. Beckett ruined his life. He's out for payback.
Castle and Hayley in the car. She tells him if you're going to be a P.I. you can't be nice. You'll even have to lie to your friends. He goes in to the prison.
Bracken doesn't want to talk to Castle. They trade insults. Bracken says you don't know who your wife really is. She'll never be happy being just Mrs. Castle. She's like a moth to a flame and we all know what happens to the moth at the end.
Espo and Ryan at the storage unit. Got a sketch on the guy running with Beckett.
Assassin grabs Castle. She says you have no idea what's going on. She puts him in a van and drugs him.
Alexis runs into the precinct. Dad's missing, we have to find him. Castle's phone is at the prison. Alexis tracks his phone ever since he disappeared. Hayley left him there and hasn't seen him since. Espo and Ryan on the case.
Assassin has read Castle's books. Heh. She tells him to sit and fastens him to a chair. A man comes over. Tell me where your wife is or I'm going to kill you.
Castle doesn't know, and if he did know, he wouldn't tell. Castle asks who is your boss? Guy says you expect us to believe your wife is keeping you in the dark? Assassin wants to torture Castle. Guy goes for the box of tarantulas.
Espo and Ryan interrogate Hayley again. Alexis storms in. Hayley tells them about the woman. Creosote was on her boot. She shows them the lab report. Alexis thanks her.
They keep asking Castle where his wife is. Keep torturing him. Where IS SHE? The guy believes he's telling the truth. But that means it's time to die. Castle breaks free and runs. Climbs onto pallets and goes for a window. Assassin kicks him. Shots fired. It's Kate! She shot the assassin woman. The man runs off. She asks Castle, Are you okay? He asks where have you been? Why haven't you called? Sirens. She has to go. She kisses him and says she loves him, and leaves. He struggles to his feet and tells Espo that Kate was here. Alexis runs to him and hugs him. Ryan says there's no sign of Beckett.
Alexis tells Castle that he needs protecting. He's not trained like Beckett. If you love Beckett, you have to trust her. Espo and Ryan say the guy with Kate is from the AG's office. Castle suggests calling McCord. She was killed yesterday, along with her team.
They talk to the assassin. You've been a busy girl. She says a confession is not going to happen. Castle says he's going to keep peeling until he knows everything. She says make peace with the fact that your wife isn't long for this world. What makes you think there's only one team in play?
2 SUVs. And a car. Men with weapons. Uh-oh.
Espo talked to the AG. They'll pick up the assassin in the morning. Assassin grabs guns from officers and starts shooting her way out. Espo and Ryan shoot back. She's dead.
Kate in a building. The SUVs pull up. The bad guys enter.
