“The Thing”
TRUST NO ONE – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) continue to collect the pieces necessary to open a rift to the other world in order to save their family. Their latest quest leads them to a Men of Letters bunker from the 1920s and a hungry God from another dimension. Meanwhile, Ketch (guest star David Hayden-Jones) makes a shocking decision about Gabriel (guest star Richard Speight Jr.) after an unruly encounter with Asmodeus (guest star Jeffrey Vincent Parise). Episode 17:
Portsmouth, Rhode Island. 1920s. A woman in a flapper dress is tied up and chained on a table. Men do a ritual over her. Something is summoned toward her from a rift.
Dean puts post it signs on Sam's back while he's sleeping. Sam wakes. What are you doing? Nothing. What are you reading? Sam found something on the Seal of Solomon, but it's really weird. Bind my seal, but the jewel was of the cosmos. Dean says we've got squat. Sam says check the archives again. I go left, you go right. Dean says I love books. LOL. Reading and reading and reading. Dean snoring. Pile of books and files, with nothing.
Sam spots the signs on his back in the mirror. Dean! Dean says the Men of Letters found it in modern day Israel. So where is it? Capitulum 7 in Rhode Island. #1 is in Jamestown, so 7 is in RI. Dean says Jinkies. Sam tells him to stop saying that.
Park the car. Sure this is it? It's what the map says. Where's the door? Sam spots the symbol. Uses the special key. They drop underground. This way. Get the lights on. Bit of a mess. Looks familiar. Except for that. Find more books. You love books. Heh. Look for anything on King Solomon. Photos of women on a table. One separate from the others. Sandy Porter. Sam spots a Solomon file in 1917. They hear a woman yelling. Somebody! Someone there? Boys break through a door. It's the room where she was chained down in the past! Dean recognizes her from the photo. Born in 1903.
Ketch comes to see Asmodeus. But he's busy. Ketch asks for something to read.
Boys got her outside. Sam tells her she was there for almost 100 years. This is a car. And a phone. And a camera, and.... Welcome to the future. Put her in the backseat.
Leaps and Ladders. Demons looking at cat videos. Ketch sneaks in. Asmodeus extracting grace from Gabriel. And injecting it in himself. Demon says I tried to stop him. Ketch says you called for me, I came. Asmodeus says I called you because you work for me and I need you when I need you. Ketch says that's not the arrangement. This is a freelance contract. Asmodeus says be a good lad and wait. Ketch sits outside the room again.
Diner. Waitress gossiping. Dean and Sam enter with Sandy. Sit anywhere you like, hon. Sandy says everything's so electric. Dean puts a coin in the table jukebox. Music plays. Waitress asks what they'll like. Sam asks what's good. She gives recommendations. Sam wants a water. The cook makes a call. To a woman with the same tattoo. We've got a problem. A very big problem.
**So, what is poor Sandy carrying against her will?
Sandy confused. How am I still alive? We don't know yet. How are you so calm I'm still alive? This kind of weird is our thing. She doesn't know what that means. Sam says we'll help. How did you get down there in the first place? She met a man in a secret club. Men of Words? Men of Letters. So they chained you down there? She thinks. Dean says you're safe now. We'll protect you, I promise. She says there was chanting. And then there was this light. Like a rip in the air. And it happened.
Tentacle creature.
They were using me to feed it. The monster.
Waitress offers coffee. Sandy excuses herself to the bathroom. Cook drugs the food. And he's got a long curved blade.
Asmodeus finally talks with Ketch. Winchesters gathering ingredients for a spell. Ketch heard. Their pet angel was in the Holy Land. You didn't tell me? You didn't ask. Asmodeus mentions the portal. They need ingredients and we need to stop them. They got the spell from the demon tablet. They need blood and other things. And a whole mess of archangel grace. You don't understand the nature of this relationship. Asmodeus says I own you. Ketch says if that's how you feel, I'm done here. Good day. Asmodeus says you're done when I say your done and beats on Ketch. Learn, son. You do what I say when I say! And if you ever think of sassing me again.... Look what you did to my suit.
Sam and Dean discus Sandy. They tested her. And how does she look the way she does. Men of Letters don't kidnap people. Except they did. And the rip in the air. MoL died 60 years ago. Who's been keeping her down there? Sam wants to go back. Waitress brings food. Sam eating kale. He's watching his cholesterol.
Young man spots people in robes outside.
Dean's order brought. And meat loaf for the young lady. Kid points out the weird. Sam. Go get Sandy. Sam's coughing and passing out. Sandy comes back out. What's going on? Lights flicker and the robes enter. Dean fights with the cook. And a robed person. Sam comes to. But they grab him. Dean fighting with the robed person still. Sandy stabs the guy to save him. Dean gets back in the main room and Sam is gone. More robes waiting outside.
**These boys, even with their resurrections and Cas healing them, don't have the heads they did when they were younger. Hits rock them frequently, and man, they've been knocked out so many times.
Dean preparing. Phones all dead. Sandy looks at the dead man. He was police. She comes to Dean. He says I'm going to get my brother back.
Sam asks who are you, what do you want? They want the monster. What are you talking about? How did you find our chapter house? Sam says our family was Men of Letters. They tell Sam our great-grandfather was, too, until he went pyscho. He summoned a god from another dimension. It didn't bring paradise.
The god thing entered Sandy, ate he men, and tried to summon its mate.
MoL closed the whole thing down. We've been watching over it ever since.
Asmodeus injects more grace into himself. Ketch sitting in the floor. You're more wicked than any demon I know and I know em all. Ketch says at least I have a soul. Asmodeus says souls are conflict and confusion. Ketch knows who he is. Asmodeus says you have this Men of Letters code, yet you work for me. Know what I see in your eyes? Fear, regret, and pain. You want redemption. But you ain't ever gonna get it. All we can do is spread our pain around. You don't know who you are, but I do. No matter where you go and what you do, you're mine.
Are they gone? Someone should see if they're gone. Kid takes a table knife and peeks outside the diner.
All Sandy wants to do is eat and breed. She can't die. We kept her locked up. Until you came alone. We had to get her back. Marcos slipped something in your food. We've been starving her for decades, keeping her weak, but if she gets food in her belly, we're all dead.
Sandy finds the kid and a tentacle stabs him in the chest from her mouth. She fed. Dean comes out of the diner. She attacks him.
Ketch pulls out a tooth. Gabriel stares at him from the cage. Ketch gets an idea. I believe it's time to go. Consider this a rescue. Come on! Gabriel is freaking out. This would go so much faster if you'd flap your bloody wings! Ketch kills a demon.
Sam comes back to the diner. Where's my brother? He came out to check on Buck. Dead bodies. But no Dean.
Sandy's dead. She's been dead a long time. What's your name? Yokath. So you're not from around here. I'm really not. It was supposed to be us! Together. They shut the rift before he could make it through. Dean says it's like a Hallmark movie but with tentacles. She likes him, his strength and his face, so she'll allow him to be her mate's host. We consumed our universe. But this one is full of life and it looks delicious. Dean says I'll pass. She chants. Had all the ingredients. Chants and tentacles arrive. Dean dodges them. Sam shoots her. Dean trying to pick his binds. They get the Seal of Solomon off her. Sister chants. The mate takes Sandy back home. Rift closes. Sam checks on Dean. Dean says glad you could make it. The brother and sister hug.
They explain needing the Seal. Marcos says you need a guide, something that's been where you need to go. And the portal only stays open 24 hours. She hands it over.
Home. We have the Seal. All we need is an archangel. Ketch comes in peace. And I brought a gift. Is that.....? Gabriel? He's dead, we saw him die. Or did you. Ketch says Asmodeus was holding him prisoner. And you need an archangel for a spell. What luck. Sam says we need his grace. Gabriel freaks out. Ketch offers the grace and the blade he stole. Sam asks what;s the catch. Protection from Asmodeus. When he finds out I stole his prize milk cow, he'll hunt me to the ends of the Earth. This is the only safe place I know. Dean says deal. If this helps us get Mom and Jack back. Sure. Whatever you want.
Sam cuts the binds keeping Gabriel's mouth shut. Dean wants to do the spell now. Sam wants to wait. Dean says we're burning daylight. Someone needs to stay. Ketch wants to come with Dean. It's better if I'm not on this Earth. Sam says it's a warzone. Ketch says won't be my first, shant be my last. Dean will go. And if something happens, come save me and Mom and whoever else. Dean knows and expects Sam to not like this, but this is how it's going to be. They prepare the spell. Remember, only 24 hours. Sam chants. The rift opens. It's the right color. Dean syncs his watch. Take their packs and enter the door.
**Why didn't they call for Cas now? That's an oversight.
Next ep - Sam and Cas discuss. Ketch and Dean bicker.
