“Optimism”

WHAT WE DO FOR LOVE – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Charlie (guest star Felicia Day) team up to get to the bottom of a string of random disappearances. Meanwhile, Jack believes that he has found a case and convinces Dean (Jensen Ackles) to partner-up with him on the hunt. Richard Speight Jr. directed the episode written by Steve Yockey. (#1406). Original Airdate 11/15/2018.

I had advance tickets for Fantastic Beasts 2 Thursday night, so I wasn't home to post.

Episode 6:

McCook, Nebraska. Cheerful good mornings. Woman opened up the library. She puts books back where they belong. Harper and Winston. He asks about dinner tonight. Miles asks if she's okay. She tells him to put the stapler down. He heard a scream. LOL. She says nobody comes to the library anymore, not even for story time. Isn't that sad? Winston leaves.

He's in a very good mood because he has the date. A man's hand grabs him and yanks him aside and there's a scream.

Jack sugaring his coffee. Everything tastes different without his powers. Dean asks about Sam.

Sam and Charlie in a truck. Where all those people are missing. Yep. Right.

Left you here, huh? Yep. Sam wanted someone around when you came back. he's worried about you. Dean says he blames himself even if no one else does. Jack coughs. He wants a hunt. Cas and I are working cases. Dean says Cas is an insurance policy on those hunts. Sam is keeping you safe. he's a smart guy.

Fidget spinner. LOL.

Winston Mather with human bite marks out of the corpse. Dean says Sam won't like it. Jack says Sam's not here. He wants to go. Dean says you're going to back me up? Jack says I could've killed Michael. Then I was distracted and stupid and.... I can't just sit here and think about it all day. But I can hunt.

Calling Sam. Be careful. Dean's hunting with Jack. Charlie says good for them. He asks if she's sure this is the right place? She has a jar of goo. Just need to figure out what we're dealing with.

Rooster Dine-In. Dean and Jack at Winston's favorite breakfast spot. Waitress has no details to share. She's not impressed or willing. So Dean offers a bribe. She says he came in every day, but you really want to ask about Harper. Jack asks what courting is. LOL.

They ask about Harper. Town tells LOTS of gossip. Harper has lost a lot of men. They all say she's bad luck. Real shame.

Charlie tells Sam your brother is fine. Sam isn't surprised she survived the apocalypse. She is. She was just a programmer. She lived with the love of her life. Kara. A cupcake bakery outside Chicago. Michael and Lucifer, a giant EMP over North America fried everything. No one ever saved us. When the food ran out, people got mean. Mobs. Stealing. A lot of people died. Kara died. People are always the same when people go wrong. They lose it. Shut the water off and next day people are on fire. Society falls apart. Sam says not here. She says not yet.

Dean says you found us a case. Eat up. Pie is important. Jack asks about courting. Dean promises to give him the talk when they get home. But right now we have to find Harper. Jack says maybe she's not human.

Dean walks into the library. Meets Harper. I have questions about Winston Mathers. I need you to talk about it. Jack comes in and ask about a book. Jack plays the hero. You back off. Old man. Dean is thrown by that. He leaves. Harper is impressed. They shake hands. She says she has the perfect book for him.

Old man my ass. Miles sees Jack and Harper leaving. She's taking Jack to her apartment for a book. Dean follows them.

Miles takes the garbage to the cans.

Man screaming. Dean goes to check it out. Draws his gun. Miles is dead and bloody.

Charlie and Sam. She hates hunting. He says you're kinda awesome at it. She says no offense, but who wants to be a hunter? This job is a lot of tears and death. He says our Charlie said something similar. She says this is her last case. I'll go live on a mountaintop or something. As long as there's good wi-fi.

Harper's apartment. She says it's weird I brought you here. I'm weird. I'm not putting the moves on you. I'll go get the book. He asks about Miles. Dean calls. Jack turns it off. Jack had readied human tests. LOL.

Musca. Hybrid between a man and a fly. Every few hundred years, there's a bad egg. He uses bodies to nest. Binds the bodies with goo. She notices a person all in black with a hidden head. Picks up a case under a bench and leaves.

Harper asks where Jack is from? Lebanon, Kansas. She's the last of her family in town. Jack coughing. He asks about a photo. She says Vance was my boyfriend. He left town without her. She doesn't blame him. But that was the beginning of my bad luck. I try to stay optimistic. He does, too. Trying to be positive. It can be hard. Phone buzzes. Call me now. She asks if he believes in love at first sight? He asks for the bathroom.

Calls Dean in there. Silver and holy water didn't do anything. Harper's not a monster and I'm 99 percent sure she's in love with me. I need to know everything about sex. Dean tells him Miles is dead. Something bit out his throat. Dean is attacked and the line goes dead.

Harper thinks she freaked Jack out. He says no, you're fine. I'm fine. She asks about coffee. He doesn't know. Dean rushes in and locks the door. We're here to save you. From what? Banging on the door and roaring in the hall. That!

Who's out there? It's not a who. Dean is thinking.... How did Vance die? She thinks he lives in Connecticut. Dean says not anymore. It's a zombie. Only one way to stop these things. Dean struggles with it. Tells Jack to get her out of here now. Dean and Vance crashing into her bookshelves.

Dark. Sam says you can't quit and live on a mountain somewhere. We're social animals. You can't walk away easily. I've tried. Our Charlie tried. The mark is back. Bus arrives. And they need to go after it.

Jack and Harper still running.

Dean and Vance. Vance leaves when Dean picks up a chair.

Jack and Harper in the library.

Sam and Charlie hunting the two. A door covered in goo. Brass nail dipped in sugar water can kill it. But they don't have that. Enter the nest. LOTS of flies. Smells like rotting meat. Downstairs. Searching. She finds a pile of bodies. Sam finds a briefcase. Charlie finds the new guy still alive. She's grabbed. Knocked out. Sam gets to her. Fly man attacks him! She wakes and distracts it. Sam shoots it in the head. So, we got creative. Cool. They're both splattered in goo.

Vance outside the library. Harper checks the lock and Vance comes back to the glass. She opens the door for him! He brings her book to him. She kisses him. Jack asks what are you doing? She says he's my boyfriend. He just gets jealous. This is a game we play. He needs to eat flesh to maintain his body. Stupid magic. But it all works out. Except not for you. I'm sorry about all this, Jack. But you're a hunter and I come from a long like of necromancers. I can't let you get in the way of the love Vance and I share. I mean, I had to kill him to keep him here. But none of the other men are like Vance. And now we're going to kill you. She picks up a book while she's waiting. Jack hiding. Dean reaches him. Not a lot works on these things. You have to get them back to the grave and silver stake them to keep them there. Jack says I thought we fell in love at first sight. I'm not afraid to love you. Start a family with me. Every relationship has its stuff, right? We can stay in the town you love and never leave. Vance tackles him. Dean says this isn't love, not anymore. It's a sick game. You have to eat people to stay together. Is that romantic? She tells Vance to kill Dean. Dean and Jack handcuff Vance in place. Harper runs off.

Sam and Charlie leaving. He kinda feels bad for the Musca. She says your nifty metaphor has holes. I wasn't looking for love. I found it and lost it. Sam says don't leave. Some people can do bad things when they're desperate or scared, but if we help people, then maybe they help people, and that's worth it. Worth all the tears and death. She says I'm not like the fly monster. But....I'll think about staying.

Cafe 50s. Harper is writing to Jack. You're the first man to ever get me to leave McCook. She wants to kill him like she did Vance. It's going to be perfect. See you soon. Love, Harper.

Jack and Dean at home. Vance taken care of. Love can be crazier than that. But you did good, kid. And....Jack says I was right. I should go out on hunts. Dean says you'll make mistakes. But it's how you handle yourself and learn from them. Jack says and not beat yourself up over them. He's coughing. Dean says we need to get you a crate of cough drops. Jack has a coughing fit. And there's blood again. Are you okay? I don't know. He's bleeding from the nose, too, and passes out on the floor.

Next ep - Jack wants to go to Vegas. He wants to live out a bucket list.
