“Since When Do You Speak Japanese?”
THE LOST SAMURAI — When a samurai shows up in Mystic Falls looking for a demon that possesses its victims, Josie (Kaylee Bryant) leads the charge to defend her friends from the demon’s wrath. Meanwhile, as Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) and Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) head to Mystic Falls High in hopes of learning more about the mysterious Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), MG (Quincy Fouse) is conflicted by a secret he’s uncovered about Lizzie’s (Jenny Boyd) new vampire friend Sebastian (guest star Thomas Doherty). Finally, just as Alaric (Matthew Davis) lets his guard down around the town’s new sheriff, a confrontation with a demon forces him to reevaluate his priorities. Episode 4:
Japan, 1308, Mutsu Province. Samurai telling stories. The sword glows. Monster coming. turn back! Or face our wrath, demon! The samurai attacks it. Stabs it. It's absorbing him into it!
Mystic Falls. The samurai has reached the present. Where am I? Who touched me? Who touched me? The guy walks away with glowing red eyes.
Ric in school. Anything you want to share? Hope doesn't want to go back to the Salvatore School. Ric says if Malavore wants Landon, then we want him more. She confesses that she and Landon were in love. Epic love. Now he's with Josie. They don't know. If I tell them, they'll hate me. Sheriff arrives. She gives him a restraining order. He's not allowed within 100 feet of the grounds.
Headmaster visits Josie. you gave me that black magic spell and I broke that kid's arm. She says the brawl was your fault, too. She has a rash from the spell. And will never do black magic again. He says it has uses in our craft. She says my dad says the opposite. He says if you ever have need to talk, my door is always open.
Lizzy wants a Renaissance Era dress. Rise to my level. Now. MG comes over. She thanks him for helping. He says you should keep on the DL for a while. It's all so new. You might be seeing things through rose colored glasses. She says she's going to seize the lay.
Landon and Rafe. Rafe notices they're being followed. Football kid is tripped and grabs the guy. The possession is transferred.
Rafe looking for Hope. Heh. Bell rings. Kids run into Rafe and he flees.
Samurai comes to the gate. Dorian says I'm going to find someone who understands you. Josie speaks Japanese. The samurai is a demon hunter looking for a demon ghost monster thing. He followed his sword here and it glows around supernaturals. They wouldn't know if it was here or not. It possesses people and can be anywhere in anyone.
Rafe runs into the football player. Landon catches up and Rafe is growly. Hope puts a gate between them. Rafe's eyes are red. But she dazed him.
Lizzie has a rash, too! Her dress has long sleeves. Scolds Josie about doing black magic, because what happens to one of them, happens to the other. Samurai comes in. Josie explains who he is. Lizzie agrees to help. Samurai says the ghost makes people act crazy. Lizzie retracts her offer. Sword glows and Josie has to run after him.
Ric and the sheriff. She thinks the headmaster is a dick. Landon pulls Ric aside. Hope has Rafe asleep in the SUV. Josie arrives with the samurai. We came to protect the bonsai-headed boy. I think. Samurai says What the hell is she doing here? Hope.
MG needs help from another student. A video of KAI! Kid tells MG to record over it.
Josie doesn't trust Hope. Heh. Ric says ask the samurai what he knows. Dropped on his head as a baby. Then samurai school. Learned to slay demons. He was a hero. All the women begged to.... Hey! Get to the point.
Flashback - He spent months tracking the possessed people. it found its way into a child and escaped him again. He chased and caught the demon but couldn't harm an innocent child. So he took the oni into himself. He was still in control of his faculties. He tried to stab himself and the oni wouldn't let him. So he'd never touch a person again, and then Malivore. Psychological torment. He came through an..... a portal. How do we kill the demon? With the sword. It's magical. Rafe breaks out. Fights with the samurai. Hope takes the sword so Rafe isn't stabbed. Samurai down. Rafe runs. Samurai says That could've gone better.
**Heh, the samurai is a wise ass.
**Rafe definitely struggling with wolfy instincts since coming back. Speaks three-word sentences. Doesn't like crowds.
The gym. Ric and Hope looking for Rafe. Maybe he touched someone. Sheriff says a student needs your help. In the locker room. Rafe? It's you, isn't it? Yeah. Um.....I wasn't in control back there. Hope can help. Who did you touch, or might've touched you? He doesn't remember.
Josie and Landon. Barrier spell. No one can get in or out, including you. He says I'm a phoenix, not a sitting duck. He wants to be possessed, then kill me with the sword, then demon gone and we win. The sword is spelled with a lot of black magic. She leaves to get backup. Samurai looks amused.
Rafe went back to campus. Josie meets up with Ric and Hope.
Lizzie and Sebastian at the lake. He wants to be closer. Skin to skin. One question. She says she's not a virgin and he asks for human blood. MG taping her. She looks back and Sebastian is gone. MG pleads with her to watch it. She sees that she was alone. MG says I'm sorry, but Sebastian's not real! She says shut up. You and me, we're not friends. We never were and never will be. You don't exist to me.
Hope enters the office. We have to get you somewhere safe. Safer than here. She picks up the sword. What if it's the one thing that can kill a phoenix, too? you think the monsters being back is your fault, but it isn't. Even though you might have the best intentions, not every sacrifice is worth it. He asks whose fault is it? She says it's mine. I'm the one that went in the Pit. Only way to save you. We were friends. He says there has to be more than that. Tell me. She says you'll hate me. He'll decide. She confesses we were in love. I can't let you risk your life because I tried to give up mine to save it. We have to find another solution. He touches her. There's a moment. Then his eyes glow and he slams her head into the filing cabinet, knocking her out.
**Hmm, how much of that was Landon and how much the oni? Did he have some autonomy like the samurai?
Josie asks where's Landon? Hope says Landon was possessed. Samurai's throat is cut. Hope guesses Landon went to the portal. Ric suggests doing a locator spell. He finds files in the sheriff's bag. Hope and Josie chant.
Lizzie's eating ice cream and crying. You are a stupid crazy person who talks to herself. The she sees Landon! He's carrying the sword. She takes it. I'm guessing you're possessed by an insanity demon. Stabs him! Join the club. Lady walking her dog sees. Lizzie says dress rehearsal! Cone see our historical reenactment on Commonwealth Day. Heh. Her head is woozy then.
Ric tells the sheriff to be honest. Talk to me and leave my girls out of this. She wanted to see if he was a good guy, and a good dad. To ask him out. Sorry, won't happen again. Awkward!
Hope and Josie arrive. Are you okay, Lizzie? Nope. I'm super crazy. But at least there's a reason this time. Lizzie is possessed. The demon's in me.
**Well, they're making Lizzie more sympathetic this season. Couldn't stand her last year. Too selfish and never learning anything. Her writing is funnier now, too.
**Hope's hair is really pretty on her this ep.
You thought I was a lunatic? LOL. Ric has trust issues. Sheriff has a long history of bad luck in relationships. Yet, here I am, flirting with you. Really screwed this up, didn't we. He says at least it was a team effort. She invites him to the bar for a drink later.
Lizzie tied to the tree. Josie asks how is she talking? Lizzie doesn't know how long she can hold it off. She and the oni keep trading words. Josie says the samurai wasn't crazy and neither are you. Lizzie says Sebastian isn't real. I've been hearing things and seeing things and feeling things no one else does. It's scarier than a demon in my head. I'm shattered. The pieces are too small to put back together. Tell Dad I love him. You have to end this with that sword. The demon wants the blade. Jo, you gotta do this, for me, okay? you'll kick my ass in the Merge, anyway. Josie says we weren't going to talk about that until we had real solutions. Lizzie pleads. Then tells Hope. Josie says the sword hurts to hold. She pulls the magic out of it then uses it to pull the demon out of Lizzie. it's fighting to stay. Then she finally sends it into the bubbling goo portal. Lizzie loves Josie. Josie collapses.
Landon comes alive. Hope there for him. Why do I see you every time I die? She tells him to get back to Josie.
Josie comes to the headmaster. I did black magic. Not on purpose this time. He assumes it was necessary. She says you said you had something that could help. A tool to hold the ill effects of such magic. Indefinitely, as long as it doesn't shatter. Place your hands on the glass and all will be as it should be. She does. Her color returns to normal. It's working. He says yes, it is.
MG brings the camera back. Sebastian is visible to him! He can't reach Lizzie anymore. The other kid can't see him. MG says you're not real. Sebastian says I'm very real and I need your help.
They buried the samurai. Ric feels guilty for not being there. He thanks Hope. She says the girls are stronger than you think. They didn't need my help. I'm not going back to the school. Ric brings up Landon. So what's really holding you back? She says what if he still choose Josie? He says are you going to live the rest of your life without finding out? She found the portal to Malivore and this time I'll get it right.
Landon with his guitar. Josie comes to him. He says you saved my life today. It's super sexy. They kiss. Making out in his bed. She grabs her shirt. He says not yet. But soon.
the bar. Sheriff waiting. It's closing. She pays. Leaves.
Red robed figure in the town square. Coming to the portal. Kneels at it. Then another shows up.
Lizzie dreaming. Remembering Hope! She wakes. Hope Andrea Mikaelson.
Next ep - The 80s. How do we get out of here? Lizzie and Hope stuck. One takes the place of a woman and the other dies. Lizzie knocks Hope out. You're not the only one who can be a martyr.
