“The Best of Smallville”
HOME – As Smallville celebrates its first Harvest Festival since Martha’s passing, Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) is reminded what his mother meant to him and learns a lesson that will help him move past her death. Meanwhile, Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) makes a breakthrough in the investigation of Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner). Lastly, Kyle (Erik Valdez) tries to reconnect with Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui), but it seems like he might be falling back into his old ways. Dylan Walsh, Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin also star. Episode 5:
Sunrise in Smallville. Clark loves the fall. Changing of seasons. Boys come downstairs. Lois in the kitchen. News talks about recent uptick in Superman activity across the globe. Clark loved the one weekend every year when people came together to sacrifice. HarvestFest. Established in 1949. Lois says think of it as Smallville's version of Burning Man. LOL. Clark says it was Grandma's favorite. She spent weeks planning what she'd donate. He also loves chocolate bacon. Eliza is coming to visit. Clark insists they'll all love the festival.
High school. HarvestFest stuff in the halls. Sarah says it has its own kind of specialness. She asks Jordan if he wants to go together. John says he'd love to go with you. They'll meet up before tonight. Johnathan takes a call. It's Eliza. Can we please talk about this? She dumped him. Jordan tries to comfort him and John shrugs it off.
Clark cleaning to make a home office for Lois, and give some of his mom's stuff away at the festival. Lois gets a call. Sharon Powell is at the paper and so is her son. He doesn't remember what happened to him. Woke up outside a church in another county. Lois asks about the phone messages he left his mom. He jumps at touch. Sharon is grateful for the help, but she's happy he's back, so the other stuff doesn't matter anymore. I have my son back. We just came to say thank you. Chrissy says you were almost murdered and you want to let that go? Sharon continues and leaves. Chrissy and Lois know it's bogus.
Captain Luthor's computer tells him they've found Lois Lane. Wherever she goes, Superman follows.
Lana accepting donations. Sharon and her son bring men's clothes. Sharon and Derek Powell. Lana says glad you're back. He rubs his head and excuses himself. Gets on the phone. Something wrong. I feel off. His eyes flicker red! I need to see you now. He heat visions uncontrollably in the room! Sets the ceiling on fire.
**So he's one of Edge's experiments with the X-Kryptonite.
Kent Farm. Clark remembers trying a new shirt with his mom having doubts. Lana will be at the Festival. Is he still seeing the Cushing boy? Clark hears thieves. Confronted them with a ski mask on. Put the stuff back. They try attacking him and he scares them into doing the right thing.
Fire. Clark hears the sirens and races off. Firemen working on the building. Ceiling is engulfed. One of them has to rescue Mitch inside. Clark arrives and scans the area. Stops the fire with his cold breath to save the two firefighters. Is that frost?
Kent Farm. Clark tells Lois all the donations are destroyed. Sharon Powell was outside the center. Lois asks if Derek was there? John and Jordan return. Got your favorite pizza. John's not hungry. Jordan says Eliza dumped him. Lois follows Johnathan. Clark says first breakups are rough. I did a deep dive into REO Speedwagon. LOL. jordan has no clue.
Lois catches Johnathan, tries to talk through it. But he just wants to be left alone.
Lois at the fire scene. Any idea what cause this? Kyle doesn't know how it started or ended. Mitch was hurt. Best man at his wedding. It's not looking good. Lois asks if he saw Derek Powell. She needs to talk to him. Thanks for your time and I'm sorry about your friend. She calls Chrissy about what she learned. Get his mom to the Gazette right now. Luthor approaches. Miss Lane? I've been looking for you.
**Interesting - Luthor pulled out a charming and harmless vibe there. Nice smile, smooth and friendly voice.
Marcus Bridgewater. Reuters. Used to work at Luthorcorp. She says the only human worse than Morgan Edge. He thought there would be a bigger story and wants to be on Team Lois. He asks about Superman. She asks what he has on Edge? Nothing. But I think I have a way inside the mines. She gives him her card.
Chrissy and Sharon. Derek texted that he needs space. Chrissy wants to see. Do you share a phone plan?
Jordan asks Clark if he can leave early to meet up with Sarah. Is it a date? Maybe. Yeah. Yes. Clark is excited. Johnathan enters and he's bad moody about being in Smallville. I want to move BACK. I lost all my friends and will probably never play football again. This town? It is my Kryptonite. I hate it! Dad.....Brian Kelso's older brother has a spare bedroom. Maybe I can stay with them. Clark says no way. John threatens to go. You let Jordan into football. The boys leave for the fest.
Clark in his teens. Mom says you can't play vigilante. We have rules. He says they were Dad's rules. Dad gone a year. He says we have to move on with our lives. Dad knew I was sent here for a reason and that's not to be Martha Kent's son.
Kyle and Lana. Mitch's lung damage might be permanent. Lots of questions still. She asks if he's been drinking. He says he had a drink in honor. Let me get a bite and a shower. Lana needs to go. Sarah says take Sophie. Lana leaves.
HarvestFest. A little life in town. Jordan hopes Sarah isn't having second thoughts. John offered alcohol by some boys. Jordan leaves to find Sarah.
But she's at home tending to her dad. He asks her to sit a minute. Remember that song I sang when you were a little girl? In Spanish. She yells at him to stop. That was a long time ago. She wants to go. He says he'll be right behind her.
Derek kissing the redhead. He says I started that fire. What if I can't control it? She says We can fix this. Follow me. Chrissy spying on them in her car.
Clark turns off music. Closes the window. Memory from his teens again. Martha apologizes. She didn't want to admit this home isn't the best place for you anymore. I know you're meant for bigger things. She gives him the crystal from the pod. It might be the key to figure out what your future is. Present Clark gets a text.
Lana at the festival. Excuses Kyle.
Jordan finally finds Sarah. She apologizes for being late. But no sad story tonight. He brought the bacon on a stick. She offers to get him elephant ears. Okay.
Chrissy spying on Derek. Redhead tells him to trust her. He goes in a chamber.
Jordan starting to see what Clark saw in the town. It's pretty great. Sarah says everything's not okay. The sheer weight of all the bad things in my life. My therapist is probably tired of hearing. Johnathan comes over loud and drunk. It's his first date ever! Sarah calls them pathetic. Confronts Johnathan. John apologizes for teasing. She storms off. He apologizes to Jordan. Jordan accepts. Let's get you some water.
Clark and Lois eating festival food. Johnathan wants to move back to Metropolis. Clark smells that John's been drinking. Lois tells them go home NOW. Chrissy calls. Gets back in her car. Tells Lois Derek was making out with Leslie Larr. Clark speeds off.
Derek comes out. Leslie asks if it worked. Superman invades through the ceiling.
Derek flies off after telling her to protect the asset.
Luthor is told that Kal-El is near.
Superman chases Derek. Flying over cornfields at night. Derek lights a fire and Superman puts it out. Luthor told he'll intercept in 23 seconds. Clark trying to get answers. Derek was resurrected. You're not alone anymore, Kal-El.
Luthor's van stops. He's ready to fire a missile. Fires at the two. Hits Derek.
Superman and Derek land and leave a dent in the landscape. Superman says I can help you. Derek says you can't. I'm already dead. He flames up and disintegrates. Luthor gets to the crater and it's empty.
Home. Lois and Jordan on the sofa. John apologizes. Clark stops him. This is your one get out of jail free card. I know how you feel. I did leave home. I needed to become someone else, someone more important than Clark Kent. But I gave up time with my mom I'll never get back. Johnathan, you have your own path. Give Smallville a little more time. Then we can discuss options. Clark gives him the box. Grandpa gave that to Grandma when he proposed and she gave it to me when it was time to leave. Boys go upstairs. Lois calls him a softie. She's processing, feeling bad for Derek Powell. Clark says I don't think it was Derek. His powers were erratic.
Donations drive again. Wish we could replace everything. Lana tells them Morgan Edge wrote a check to replace everything and then some. Come with me. One last donation you need to see. They feel Martha Kent's absence. Everyone in Smallville can remember her sitting right here. A memorial bench. Clark smiles. Lana asks him to sit.
Teen Clark and Martha on the bench to wait for the train. It's time, Clark. Train whistle. He walks away with a bag.
Clark says I was so selfish. Mom let me go anyway. Lois says she loved you and wanted you to be happy. Lois went through 27 hours of labor with the twins. Luthor spying on them.
Returns to his motor home. Computer reminds him it's not the Lois from his world. Lois was married to him there!
Jordan and Sarah. She says tell John I'm sorry. Didn't mean to get so mad at him. I asked you out on the date, but I think I could use a friend more than anything else? Jordan agrees. As long as we have time together. You ruined the date. They laugh together.
He walks home until he's tackled by Tag! What did you do to me? Tell me! Punching Jordan.
Next ep - Tag wants the truth. Clark needs Jordan to understand the responsibility.
New episodes resume Tuesday, May 18 at 9/8c. The CW will be airing the first half of Supergirl‘s final season in the time slot until then. :(
