“Inheritance”
LAUREL TEAMS UP WITH OLIVER — Laurel (Katie Cassidy Rodgers) learns about some damaging information that affects Emiko (Sea Shimooka). Always looking to protect his sister, Oliver (Stephen Amell) invites Laurel to help investigate, which makes Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) happy as her friend is now working with the team. However, when things go awry, Felicity is forced to make a choice between the team and Laurel. Patia Prouty directed the episode written by Sarah Tarkhoff & Elizabeth Kim (#717). Episode 17:
Child Emiko in a hallway. Robert is kicking them out. She'll take everything if I let you stay. The movers will be here tomorrow. Tell Emiko I'm sorry. He opens the door and tells her. She wants to stay here. But life isn't fair, kiddo. We don't always get what we want. I'm sorry. She begs him to not leave.
Emiko and Oliver sparring/training. With wooden swords. She asks where he learned TaeKwonDo. He says from a woman named Talia in Russia. He asks her. She says she had a good teacher. He taught me how to take care of myself. Oliver breaks her sword with a downward blow. He gives her another. Rematch?
Emiko in a dark alley. Feels a shadow. Pulls her bow on whomever it was.
Laurel got a cut on her arm from the arrow.
Felicity with a server system. talking to herself. Alena enters. She's working at Tech Village. How did you find me? Felicity says it's the project I'm working on. Meet Archer. You found me by my DNA? When did you get my DNA? Felicity wants to scale this up but she can't do it alone. Alena is in. Doesn't care about the benefits.
Oliver allows access for Laurel to enter the apartment. She asks if Felicity is here. He says no. Says her bandage is bleeding through. Sit and we'll get you cleaned up. Passes some supplies. He says looks like an arrow wound. She says it came from his sister's bow. Your sister is not the hero you think she is. Ben Turner saw her at Slabside the night Diaz was murdered. She did it. Laurel dug on her. No records past the age of 15. Oliver says she doesn't miss. If she wanted you dead, you'd be dead. I shot Barry Allen and Roy Harper to make a point. She says the Oliver I knew had a blind spot toward family, too. He'll look into it if she promises to stay out of it. She says she already wishes she had. Good luck.
Oliver on a rooftop. Sees Emiko meets with men and enter a building. Dante.
Woman Hands over a box to Emiko and Dante. My family will be safe, right? There's something beeping. Dante hits her in the throat.
Dante activates a bomb outside.
Oliver inside, talks to the woman before she dies.
Felicity goes over Dante stuff with Diggle, Oliver, and Rene. Dante runs The Ninth Circle. Diggle asks Oliver why he went out last night? Oliver tells them what Laurel said. I followed Emiko and it led me to Dante. Rene doubts Laurel. Felicity defends her. Oliver says the Ninth Circle is clearly a threat, so. Diggle will talk to Lyla about it. Rene will go to SCPD. Oliver's going to talk to Emiko.
Laurel comes to Dinah at the station. A coerced confession. Dinah tells Laurel she has to play by the law. Laurel says all of those guys are guilty. Dinah says if anyone finds out, they're all going to get out on technicalities and you'll get fired. There's a new lieutenant brought in, so you have another chance to do it the right way.
Oliver comes to Emiko's. She's packed with a duffel. He's asking questions. How long did you train with your teacher? Since I was 11. He tells her he saw her with Dante. Emiko says you think I'm a criminal? He's trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but Dante is a monster. She knows. But she didn't back then. I was 11 when your father left us with nothing. Dante took me under his wing and trained me. By the time I knew who he was, I owed him and I still do. She says there's no way out. Oliver says I can help you, but you have to let me. She says you can't. You'll only make things worse if you try.
Emiko brings a delivery from Frank Bertinelli to Dante. She snags his watch. He tosses his knife. I'll take my watch back. She needs money. It looks like you have enough. How'd you do that thing with the knife? He offers to teach her. Come back tomorrow. Good lift. If you steal from me again, I'll slit your throat.
Suit up. They found their target.
Security guard finds his partner dead. Dante shows up. The man says please don't kill me. Emiko knocks him out. Team Arrow attacks and Dante slaps Emiko. You told them we were here. Your allegiance has shifted. Team Arrow rescues Emiko. Dante's group leaves.
Emiko in Arrow bunker. She agrees to work with them. Felicity says Archer crashed. Emiko says all Ninth Circle locations will be burned. He was after enriched uranium. Already has drones. She asks for some ice. Dinah has to go to SCPD. Oliver asks Diggle what's wrong? Be careful with her. Felicity says there's only 2 places in Star City with the uranium.
Rene and Emiko. She wants to hear it. He knows not to pry. She didn't want him to get mixed up with them. But I should've told you the truth. He doesn't regret teaming up with her. We're still partners, Emiko, no matter who we're up against.
Dante and Emiko flashback. She was working on a plan to impress Robert. Dante doesn't approve. She asks why can't she have both? He says once you join the Ninth Circle, there is nothing else. It is your family now. This is their gift to you. She opens the envelope. What's on the paper?
Laurel and Dinah. Dinah wants a deal with Mr. Hernandez. Laurel enters with his file. She'd let him rot, but it's your boss we're after. She's got enough on him for 3 felonies. He says your dad thought he could convict me, too. Pushes her about Quentin. Dinah pulls her out.
Oliver and Emiko return. It was a bust. John and Rene struck out, too. Felicity says Archer is still not working. She's about to do a full system reboot. Oliver's going to clean a cut and finds a blinking jammer. Emiko pulls her bow on him. Fires at him. I couldn't let you and your team get in the way again. They fight.She didn't need a new family. She needed him to try to put her together. He can't believe she'd prefer the Ninth Circle. She says Better than living as a Queen. Oliver says you don't have to do this, you have a choice! She's made it. They keep fighting. Bye, brother. She disappears.
**After all these years, they don't sweep for bugs and jammers daily??? Team has gone soft and sloppy.
Team Arrow regroups. Oliver needs to know where Emiko is. Felicity says the jammer wiped the memory card. There's been a break-in at a waste plant. Serin gas. Oliver's going to Emiko's hideout. John will go with him.
Dinah checks on Laurel. Hernandez was found dead an hour ago. Laurel's office let him loose. He made bail. Dinah says another lieutenant was spooked and will testify. Dinah says you looked at him the same way you looked at Vinny before you murdered him. Laurel has busted her ass to play by the rules and you keep seeing the Black Siren. Dinah says you're right. But I don't know who you are and you don't, either.
Dante gives Emiko more intel on her mother's killer.
Emiko met with Robert for a business deal. He wishes Oliver showed this interest in the business. She says let me start Queen Materials and I'll show you. Robert can't approve this. She says I need this to help mom, something you never did. Do you ever think about us? He says all the time. I wish things were different. Emiko kept hoping he'd be the father she deserves. He has to go. He's going to China on the Queen's Gambit. He asks if there's anything else she'd like to talk about? She says no. Have a good trip.
Oliver and Dig. Want to talk? Oliver says a reminder this has happened before doesn't make it better. John says you're not ready to give up on her. He wanted to bring Andy back to the light, but that blind spot cost us. Oliver sees Emiko clearly. John says you're still trying to save her. Oliver says she was 11 when she was abandoned. Her life would be different if that never happened. John says Andy tried to put guilt on me. I put everything at risk. Oliver says if I abandon her now, I'm no better than my father. I have to redeem my family at least a little. Felicity got a location. Let's get the team and go.
**Robert was definitely a shmuck. Though meeting with Emiko right before the trip that proved fatal adds weight to his pushing Oliver to right his wrongs. Retroactively, we could say Robert might've wanted Oliver to find his half-sister and bring her into the company once he decided to kill himself on the raft.
Men in chem suits prepare the drones in the hangar. team Arrow arrives. Dante says we can begin the demonstration. Felicity tells Oliver to stop these things before they take off. Team attacks. Emiko says I'll deal with him. Protect the drones. Oliver attacks and Dante grabs something and escapes to an SUV. Emiko's not happy she's left behind. Rene tries to go to her and a blast sends him flying.
Drones airborne and cloaked. Felicity's working on that. Oliver starts shooting arrows. One gets away. Emiko comes to him. Oliver says it's not too late. She says I owe Dante EVERYTHING. It's time for us to say goodbye. Brother. KILL HIM! Oliver fights the acolytes. All down. Please tell me you got that last drone! Felicity says the gas was deployed. Sorry, Oliver.
**Good job, team. Where was John when Oliver was shooting the drones? He wasn't seen after Dante drove away.
Team returns to bunker. They bombed empty buildings.....hmm. How do we stop the real thing?
Laurel watches a video. Photo of her with Ricardo Diaz. Emiko did it! You make me sad. Trying so hard to be someone you aren't. Laurel says get the hell out of my office. Now. Emiko says I thought I was punishing you for following me. Maybe I just set you free.
Felicity returns to Alena. Alena finds Archer exciting. Felicity wonders what we do when we don't have DNA. Alena says we'd be taking a couple pieces of straw out of the haystack we're looking in.
Oliver and Dig. Oliver doesn't want to give up. Stop Emiko before it's too late.
Emiko tells Dante he disobeyed a direct order. He says I gave you that dagger. Where is your focus? Your absence has been noted. Emiko found Archer. He says we can't stake our future on tech we haven't seen. She says trust my vision. And if you question my authority again, I'll kill you.
Emiko had plans of the Queen's Gambit!
Next ep - Former DA Laurel is facing charges of murder. Black Siren tells someone our friendship was all an act.
